A list of puns related to "Rusholme"
Hi, I was hoping for some local opinions - me and my partner are looking to move to Manchester as she's starting a Uni Postgrad course. Potentially I could be keeping my job in Leeds which is mostly remote working with some occasional having to travel to the office (can't drive so good public transport links ideal) - we're mid-twenties and have been looking at places to live and thinking maybe Rusholme?
Could anyone from round there give us an idea? Is it very studenty, or OK for young twenty-somethings to live? We're currently near Headingley in Leeds - is it a bit like that? I'd really appreciate any insight. We've also looked at Levenshulme which looks OK.
The thread title is just from the Smiths song which I love. Not a judgement on Rusholme.
Hi all, looking for some advice about living in the Rusholme/Moss Side area. I'm going to look at a house there and wondering if anyone who lives/lived there recently could tell me how you found it?
I know it has a reputation from the old days, and I know there's been a few stabbings and shootings in the last few years... But equally I've heard there's a good community spirit and most people are just trying to get on with their lives.
For context, I'm a white woman, late 20s who would be living alone. I work at the MRI so the area is really convenient and the rental prices mean I can afford somewhere bigger than my current cramped flat! I've lived in a so called 'dodgy' area before where my neighbours would have arguments in the street and police visited several times for domestic issues, and I'm good at keeping to myself, always lock my door etc. But it wasn't an area with any gang/violent activity so maybe not the same.
Any advice would be much appreciated, especially from other women who've lived there. Thanks!
How do you interpret the song Rusholme Ruffians? I see it as a song about an innocent, awkward kid growing up in a vulgar place. Lyrics like βscratch my name in your name with a fountain pen, this means you really love meβ shows a childlike view on love, and lyrics like βa boy is stabbed and his money his grabbedβ represent the awful place he is in. Yet, even though this boy lives in such a bad place, he still believes in love.
Just moved to Manchester last week to study and Iβve been trying to get into running. Iβve been to Whitworth Park and it seems alright, but are there other spots in the area that are more suited to distance running?
I walked through Rusholme today, having not been for ages. I remember it as a drag of mostly tired curry houses offering deals to try and tempt in groups of one-time-only patrons.
It's not like that now.
I counted only a handful of places doing 'Indian' food. The rest of it is full of Middle Eastern and Eastern Mediterranean places β Afghan, Palestinian, Iranian, Turkish, Yemeni. Feels exciting, like the place has got its mojo back.
I've got some time off work in about a week and want to go back to get some lunch. Does anyone have any tried and tested recommendations for the new 'curry mile'? (The Qabily Pilaf mile?)
Heyya, this year I'm living in the rusholme area and was wondering maybe anyone knows of any outdoors workout areas around? I plan on investing in some Gymnastics Rings, so I can technically use a bar on a basketball support or anything similar, the problem is I just haven't been able to find such things here (thought it'd be easier, considering there are such workout facilities in nearly every park back home).
Thanks in advance!!!
Roads are filled with endless queues on non moving traffic. Mile long queues fro various restaurants along the curry mile. The only thing i could think would be causing it is new students moving into their accommodation?
I've got a lovely spacious room in Rusholme with great transport links, off street parkng etc.. for the next academic year but due to covid, I won't be returning to Manchester. Message me if you're interested
Evening all. Last night (23:50, 18/09/18) a man opened my front door and crept into my house in the M14 7 area of Fallowfield / Rusholme / Moss Side, close to the Yew Tree Road/Claremont road intersection. Lanky white British man, bad mustache, wearing a dark zip-up jacket and grey/black beanie hat. Looked to be On Something. He asked for money, I got up and ushered him out and he ran off. Iβve lived in the area for 8 years now and this has happened every single time Iβve left the door unlocked, even when only for a short while. I also regularly see people walking along and trying the doors. Seemingly there are many opportunistic thieves who take advantage of new students at this time of year, so please make sure you keep your doors/windows locked and valuables away from windows etc. And if you're a student, please make sure you regularly back up all your work and look out for one another.
I remember the first time I heard the song I didnβt really enjoy it, the tune sounded just so out of place. But after a couple of more listens it really grew on me and is definitely one of my favorite Smiths tracks. Anybody else have it up there too?
What is the sound at the end of Rusholme Ruffians from Meat is Murder? Is it like a tape machine or what...
I'm a freelance writer and work from home but I'd like to get out and about - are there any decent cafes in the Rusholme or Fallowfield area? Preferably nearer the Platt Fields Park area. Nothing too noisy, but with a nice friendly atmosphere. Thanks!
I've been reading about the The Gym in Fallowfield and that sounds decent enough, Β£20 per month, no contract - though I'm dubious about the no contract thing, it has a Β£23 quid deal that lets you pause for 3 months, but surely if there's no contract that wouldn't be necessary?
I'm looking to do weights so I'll need a PT and they seem to have a lot there. I'm not well up on gym etiquette, do I have to use their PTs or can I look around for a cheaper one who isn't in-house?
But yeah, is that gym ok or are there better/cheaper ones round my way?
Police have cordoned off the area and there's a man dressed in a bin bag on top of a shipping container drinking beer. Anyone know who he is or why he is like this?
