So using straight gouache on dip pens is not very usable. You definitely need to water it down in a palette. I used it for the reeds (and of course the linework for the watercolour).

Did this cute little watercolour of a stone bridge. I used a dip pens for the linework and the reeds. Note, it's hard to use straight gouache with a dip pen. I've tried, but you really need to water it down in a palette

Suggestions on where to obtain authentic Ancient Roman βcalamusβ reed pens?
Although reed pens still kind of exist today, many appear to be made from bamboo or other materials that arenβt historically authentic.

As a beginner in Arabic Calligraphy, can I use any bamboo pen instead of Reed pen?
I live in Germany and Its very hard to find reed pen/stick. Online buying is very costly. In hardware stores, bamboo sticks are available but they are very hard. I am not sure If I can use them for calligraphy? The bamboo stick I am talking about are these: (in German)

If anyone from Germany can give some hints where to buy "schilfrohr" (reed stick) I would be very glad. I also looked at schilfrohr-matte but the stick are not good.

Any sources to buy bamboo or reed pens for Arabic calligraphy in germany?
I am looking for bamboo or reed pens for calligraphy and due to my poor german knowledge, I am struggling to find a reliable source to buy online. Please share if you have any information. Thank you.
I am self learning Thuluth calligraphy style, and finding it hard to write thick lines and curves with regular calligraphy nibs that are available online.
