A list of puns related to "Real Id Act"
Hi all! I know this question gets asked often and I should just post it in the weekly Q&A thread but I have a lot to ask.
I stumbled upon vandwelling some months ago and really got into the idea of doing it. I plan on moving out of my home state to a state that's friendlier to vandwelling (or at least has no state income tax). I'd like to work while I live in my van b/c you gotta work, but idk how to go about becoming a resident in a prospective state w/o a physical address. I've been researching all sorts of things like van types, builds, budgets, finding work, the possibility of doing this full time, etc. and the one thing that I always get held up on is the bureaucracy, namely the paperwork involved getting IDs, insurance and mail. I know some people use a family members address or a friends but that wouldn't work as I don't want to impose on anyone to handle my mail. Now with the Real ID act becoming a thing, PO boxes and private mailboxes aren't possible either. So how does somebody who wants to break into this type of lifestyle and find work go about doing it? I have some ideas and want to hear from people who are doing this full time to give some advice.
Get a South Dakota license and chase seasonal work. I've heard you can get a South Dakota ID by spending as little as 1 night in an RV park and they give you a street address, "lease agreement"(not sure if that's right) and by signing a nomad affidavit you say that SD is your "home" but not your "home home". This sounds easy but SD isnt my first choice of state. If I went with this route would one be able to get work outside of SD?
Texas. I've heard that Texas is (or was) lax with ID requirements. I've heard that Escapees provides a street address and mail forwarding so that you can become a resident. I'd like to live and work in austin but this Escapees place is in Livingston, 100 miles away. Could I still find work outside of where my legal physical address is? Are there other places closer to Austin where I could get a physical address to establish myself and then just fall through the cracks?
I have other ideas like doing a workaway and getting on well enough with the hosts to the point that I could use their address but again I dont like the idea of asking others to handle my mail.
Sorry for the rant but I've been thinking about doing this for a while now and hope I'm not too late to the party to be a full time vandweller. Hope this thread takes off and can help others thinking a

> If your card does not have the star, you can continue to use the card after October 1, 2020, but it will only be accepted for state-related purposes such as driving (driver license only), banking, and voting. It will not be accepted as identification for federal purposes.
So I take that as you can only vote for state elections and not the federal election.
Just a public service announcement. REAL ID is a United States antiterrorism law, and compliant ID shows that you have (and can afford) all the paperwork saying you are who you are, where you live and that you're part of the system.
If your tribal ID isn't REAL ID complaint or part of a similiar system, like FAST or NEXUS, please go get some ID that is. Or get a U.S. passport. Passport cards are relatively cheap, but they're only good for car travel through Canada and Mexico. A passport book is more expensive but can be used for flying.
Get this before next year. There's going to be a whole lot of people who get caught in the mix. Please don't be one of them.
The extension for the REAL ID Act is expiring on Oct. 10, 2018. Has there been any recent news regarding the state's plan is for implementation of compliant identification?
We have an extension right until like Oct 2018? Meaning we don't need a passport or special id to fly to and from? Mine is expired and I'm set to fly soon :O
I keep reading about this in posts. Currently I have my drivers license, bank, Cellphone etc all going through a forwarding service.
Will those of us without a house be sol in 2020?
Currently a Florida dweller and resident if that matters.
