It just hit me out of absolutely nowhere: they confused Peter Rabbit with Brer Rabbit. They thought Peter Rabbit was a trickster from African-American folklore.
Seriously I'm freaked out about the safety of my family and my rabbits right now!
I've picked up Don't Starve again after a long hiatus and I'm still using what I've found to be the best strategy: building my base in/near a grassy field that is chock full of rabbit holes, and planting a trap on each and every hole. Then over the next days/weeks, building a metric ton of wooden chests to store the live rabbits inside because they don't spoil if they are still alive. I also replant berry bushes nearby to supplement my meatball recipes. Bonus if my base is at most a half-day's travel from a Beefalo herd or two so I have easy access to manure for my farms or replanted berry/grass bushes.
Does anyone use this strategy? I usually fail my games from combat, and this strategy avoids it entirely. I've seen beginner guides that talk about fighting spiders and killer bees and stuff and I've found that just settling near a rabbit warren is such an easy way to play without getting into any risky situations at all. I've seen my maps usually spawn with huge warrens of 20+ rabbit holes in close proximity. If you take time to get a LOT of wooden chests, you can easily store enough rabbit meat to last you through winter without any hassle.
My last game, I just stored up berries and rabbits and used my metric ton of extra grass to make straw rolls to sleep through every single winter night. All I did was eat and sleep. It was luxury.
What is the flaw in this beginner's strategy that I might be missing? I only lose when I try to take the "next step" in the game and collect risky materials that require combat.
