A list of puns related to "Quilter"
Sort of an offmychestpost, fair warning!
It's that time again! We're starting to see who was juried into QuiltCon and who was rejected. Does anyone else feel like the same 10 quilters make it in every year with the same or slight variation of their previous work?
I didn't submit this year, so I'm not just bitter posting, but it's so predictable who will make it in anymore.
I love following the #QuiltConreject on Instagram because personally, I feel like those quilts offer much more character and diversity. Sure, there are some questionable choices in there too, but seeing what didn't make it offers a cool perspective.
What other cons/shows can I follow that still showcase modern quilts and quilters? Bonus points if you can give me modern quilters to follow who you think aren't being showcased!
Remember, Quilting isn't a competitive sport.
Edit: I was to clarify that this is not a shitpost and I do not want to discredit the artists who have won in the past. I think their work is inspirational and meticulous and would be an idiot to say I donβt follow their careers. I AM, however, asking for alternatives to the MQG and QuiltCon to diversify the quilts/quilters I see. Thanks!
Iβm interested in meeting up with other male quilters in our area. Donβt know what we would do (itβs not a very mobile hobby like knitting or something), but Iβve never met another guy into the hobby.
Hello! I have my mother in law for secret Santa this year, and Iβm looking for a gift idea in the realm of quilting.
Iβm a woodworker myself, and know how tough it can be to find the right gift to support someone elseβs hobby when you know very little about it. Iβm looking to spend $50-80 and ideally it would be something she is unlikely to splurge on for herself. Iβm afraid I wonβt be much help with any questions about her equipment as I live very far away. Iβm open to gift cards so she can pick out something herself as well. I know she frequents JoAnn Fabrics and that is my current best idea for a gift card, but I would very much appreciate any other suggestions. Thank you!

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! Iβll do my research but I have a lot of great ideas for both gift cards and projects I could make for her in the future.
I had the chance to play briefly through the Aviator Cub today. I really found it to be a great solid state amp getting some pretty close to tube sounds and breakup.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried or owns one of these amps? Also, I don't know much about Quilter, and would be interested in durability and service reputation. Thanks in advance.
I'm a tube guy through and through but have a Roland Blues Cube with a few pedals, like a Brantone Tweed pedal, to help it out.
This Aviator Cub seemed to get some different sounds, pretty close to what they seek to emulate, if I recall correctly...tweed, blond and black. The reverb was absolutely the best digital reverb I've ever had in a guitar amp, and I do have the recent Vibrochamp Reverb '68, and I'm not impressed with it's digital reverb.
Not so with the Cub. I didn't mess with the tone much or the compression or limiter as I was listening to the guitar I was playing. I WAS pleased with the sounds I got out of the various inputs. I'm going to give it another test drive soon.
In case you are looking at this because you are curious, here is a link so you'll know what it is. https://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/sew-steady-weightless-quilt.php
Currently I'm doing mostly straight quilting, not FMQ. Today I am wrestling with the size and weight of the quilt. When I look at video for the Weightless Quilter, it seems to be mostly used for FMQ. Do you use it for straight quilt (side to side/top to bottom)? If so, it seems you need to sew far enough into a side to be able to attach and get the benefits of the WQ. Is that true? Since I'm doing the lines repeatedly, I think I would have to detach, sew into the side for a bit and reattach. How much of a pain is that? How deep is the table you are sewing on? How wide? Does the frame need to sit next to a specific corner of your table?
If you are using for straight line quilting will you share your process and opinions?
Thanks!

So I've been working at this high-end Bed and Breakfast for about nine years. I've seen a lot go down in that time, but nothing like this. For context, the area I'm in only has tourism based around one thing: Amish people. Naturally, that also includes their hand-made goods, like quilts. The original owner of the place I work (who I also worked for and is a sweetheart), is an avid quilter, and hosted a small quilting class with a few ladies in the lobby (with full permission from the current owner). These ladies then decided to book a retreat with a group of quilting friends. We have 11 rooms in total, and they planned to occupy the main building, taking seven rooms.
This seemed like a great plan. We had met them, had reference from our previous owner, secured the minimum group down payment, outlined our cancellation policies (particularly since it was a busy time of year for us and Veterans Day weekend), and we had it set in stone. Then came the first cancellation from the group leader, who we'll call Deb (all names obviously fake). Seven rooms became five because of unexpected surgeries, and these were done before the cancellation fees would have hit, so this was fine (although my boss was not happy).
Then we start getting phone calls from the other ladies, two in particular who we'll call Harriet and Sophia. Harriet was concerned about not being able to use our kitchen, which we told Deb they could absolutely do, within reason and food safety guidelines. Sophia had been under the impression there were two beds in every room, particularly the Standard rooms, which is not the case and even a cursory glance at our website would have said as much. They demanded we have extra beds for them in the rooms (so one person could sleep in the Queen bed and another in the extra bed) and we DO typically have roll-a-way beds, they were just in need of updating/replacing. So my boss spent $600 each on new, twin-sized roll-a-way beds for these rooms so the ladies could have separate beds.
Our cancellation policies state (especially since 2020) that emergency cancellations for illness will not be charged the full fee of one-night's stay. Sophia called less than a week before the Retreat to say she couldn't come because Harriet's husband was ill. Curious, I asked her what that would have to do with her being able to come. She said Harriet was the only person she had met in real life prior to the retreat, so if Harriet couldn't come, she didn't want to go alone. So I as
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey quilters, my mom loves quilting, and owns an online quilting supply shop. Whatβs something cute I can get someone who probably has everything she needs?
I am participating in Reddit Gifts final Secret Santa exchange and was matched with someone who loves to Quilt. I have no idea where to start for looking for gifts.
Are there things that are used each time that might become a hassle to buy? Is there anything you would want that you wouldn't buy yourself to help out?
Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I want to start quilting but I have zero guidance. Appreciate your help.
I have seen that there's a gift idea tag, but a lot of them seem a little too fancy for me. One of my favorite ideas so far are very cute quilted magnets. Any other simple small projects that someone would really enjoy getting and could serve purpose to the giftee? This is my first Christmas without seeing my family and I want to create some homemade gifts to send back home :)
A couple notes: the DD-7 is a little fucky in the analog position. At times, it plays in the mod setting as opposed to analog. Also, I have a small tap tempo Iβll include.
Fathom is a feeler. Probably only toward another verb.
Superblock is a feeler. Looking for another ampless solution.
Otherwise, I am wide open to offers!
Hello, I have a relative that quilts, and I want to marble some fabric for them for Christmas (see Google images and these instructions if you're curious!). But what type of fabric/fabric weight should I be using? Is there a standard for quilting? I know nothing about this!
Also, do you think I should pre-cut squares? I'm assuming not, so they have more flexibility in what they can do with the fabric and how they want to cut it, but I'm open to that.
Looking for anyone's opinion about the Quilter Labs OD 202. It looks like it's what I'm looking for except that it's 200W!
I currently have a Fender Mustang GTX 100 and to me it sounds really good enough for this hobby. But I'm really curious about the experience of just a simple amp and a set of pedals (GAS coming up). I've been trying out various tube amps at Guitar Center but since I'm a normally shy person I couldn't really crank out amps there so I couldn't tell if the tube amp I'm testing is what I like. I tried a Marshall DSL40, a Blackstar Studio 6L6 (I think, the cream colored one), a Vox (dunno what model) and a Fender Deluxe Reverb. Among them I loved the Fender since it was the only one I tested in an isolated room.
I currently live in an apartment so noise can be an issue but I've been seeing things about the Quilter. On my GTX 100 I mostly play the crunched up Fender Deluxe Reverb with a boost, the classic Marshall sound, and the Dual Rectifier sound. It seems like I could also get those (perhaps with pedals... soon) with the Quilter.
But can it be set to play at acceptable apartment-living volumes if I get it with its recommended cab?
My GTX could, still a bit loud at night but that's what headphones are for. I could also plug in a pair of bookshelf speakers instead of headphones if I want to play quietly but not have a headset on my head.
Thank you.
Update: Thanks for all the answers!
With the holidays coming up and not being a quilter myself, I could use advice from seasoned quilters. My mom has enjoyed quilting for close to 10 yrs. She has some trouble seeing #s on the tempered glass ruler and has had a finger nicked/cut a good number of times. Last year she was gifted a long arm machine.
What have you been grateful to have? If you have used one, what has your experience been with a lighted cutting mat? How do you keep fingers away from the rotary cutting line? (She has a protective glove but doesnβt like wearing it.)
Tldr; Iβd appreciate gift suggestions for my quilter.
I'm back! I've decided I'm lusting for a baritone guitar - pretty open to whatever models. One of the squiers is cool, gretsch, whatever. Bundle some pedals until it evens out or I can add cash to make it work if you have something I want. You know how it goes!
In general I don't have boxes for a lot of stuff. Unless it says it has a box - it probably doesn't.
FOR TRADE :
Not a pedal but possibly of interest :
I build pedals pretty regularly and I have a handful that might be of interest. I am listing some that aren't finished but I have the parts for as well just for good measure.
