Voiceping p-one: Perfect for some, no cigar for others

Let’s get this out of way right off the bat: the Voiceping P-One is NOT a dumbphone. I can do everything I could do on my Surface Duo or my iPhone SE on this phone (within reason). Google play (both app store and services) work. Google pay (including NFC) works great. u/jbriones95 would put this phone in the β€œpower user” category. This review will assume you are interested in this phone because you are NOT interested in a true dumbphone. Now…let’s get down to business.

Please note I’m leaving camera image quality off the list entirely because I didn’t take any pictures with it.

The Good:

  1. GOOGLE SERVICES! Finally, a β€œdumbphone” that has Google services and works in the USA! (I know there are others, but this is the first I’ve got to experience due to my carrier). Yes, they work! Yes, you can use the play store. Yes, you can load your phone up with as many apps as you want. And those apps will run all necessary services. * You can sync the phone up with messages.google.com and text from your computer!
*I’ll get to this in the Bad section

  2. NFC! Finally, a β€œdumbphone” that has NFC! Yes, it works

  3. Camera auto-focus: I didn’t realize how much I took this feature for granted until it was gone. Auto-focus on the camera comes in so handy when trying to scan a QR code. Wonderful extra that I love so much.

  4. AT&T support: In a previous post I mentioned AT&T support wasn’t working. That’s when u/That_Upstairs_9288 (who works at Voiceping) swooped in and told me what an idiot I was. Yeah…I was using the wrong SIM slot. So…make sure you use the TOP slot if you want AT&T support.

  5. Traditional T9 built-in: my favorite T9 keyboard is built into the phone! No need to create .txt files and remap keys (unlike some other phones) just start typing.

  6. Very Little Bloatware: I have a folder with less than 4 apps that came from the manufacturer. I had zero interest in using those apps, so I disabled/uninstalled them. Wow so nice compared to other phones (looking at you KaiOS)

  7. SD Card as internal storage support: Phone comes with tiny ROM. I put in a 128GB SD Card and formatted it as internal storage to make up for any lack of space 8GB would give. Love this feature!

  8. Customer Support is fantastic: u/That_Upstairs_9288 is very active on Reddit and helped me via thread and DM. The company has a phone number that you can call and get support. Don’t try

Jose's Dumbphones Awards 2021 (Text Based Version)

The awards contain a budget, mid-price, and premium devices. Links to purchase can be found on the dumbphone finder or the database.

Not reviewed yet devices like the Punkt MP02 (New Gen) or the Mudita Pure are not included since they won't be in my hands for a review until later this month and the review won't come out until 2022.

  • Best for Lifestyle Change: Phones intended to be used as minimally as possible.
    • Nokia 110 4G/Nokia 105 4G ($49)
    • AGM M6 ($79)
    • Sunbeam F1 ($195)
    • Light Phone 2 ($299)
    • Punkt MP02 1st Gen ($379)
    • Wisephone ($399)

    • AGM M7 ($99)
    • Xiaomi Qin F21 Pro ($125)
    • Cat S22 Flip ($234)

It's been a great year for dumbphones. With the release of the Mudita Pure, improvements to the Light Phone 2, new gen MP02, and the extremely powerful android smartphones, the landscape for 2022 is set and I hope that we see better devices come out this 2022. I know I am excited about the future of 4G basic phones as brands continue to update and release more improvements to their devices. Hopefully KaiOS steps up their game.

Anyways, I am excited to see what your picks are for 2021 and if you have any other basic phones you'd like to see added to this list above. I am making the video wrap up in a couple of days, so make sure to comment on my list :)

underrated chinese actors and actresses

i watch a lot of cdramas, mostly historical ones, but I find that those who are casted as leads are either the same group of people or look similar to the already famous ones (even in acting styles). don't get me wrong, there's a reason why they're always casted and some of them really are great actors who just choose good scripts but I noticed the cdramas I do watch with unfamiliar or not-so-popular actors end up leaning more to my liking.

i wanted to know who your underrated cdrama actors/actresses are since wanna see more of their work. when I obsess over a character, I usually watch all of that actor's works as well but I've ran out now and am looking for suggestions.

personally, the ones on my underrated tier are Liu Tao, Wang Kai, Li Qin, and Xiao Zhan

Newbie Blind Review #10: Koku You Campaign + Bureaucrats Job Arcs (438-495)

Happy Thursday, r/Kingdom! It is time for another blind review, and this time we have the Koku You Campaign and Bureaucrats Job Arcs. Really enjoyed this little leg of the story-- so lets get right into it!

FAVORITE CHRACTERS: Ou Ki, Shin, Ei Sei, Kyou Kai, Kan Ki

FAVORITE PANEL: https://imgur.com/a/J5A7VxC (Jesus Christ this is absolutely insane, wtf Hara)

**********************************************************

Koku You Campaign

I'll be honest, this arc didn't really grab my attention until after Kei Sha was killed. What really made this arc exciting for me was the conflict between the Hi Shin Unit and the Kan Ki Army-- which was much needed in my opinion.

But man, once you get to the part where Shin and Kyou Kai find out what Kan Ki was doing to the villagers... whew boy. My favorite part of the arc was the scene where Shin confronts Kan Ki and the whole situation that happens with Bi Hei. Holy Shit, there was so much emotion! For the first time in a while, I feel like Shin's morals and integrity were truly put to the test-- and it resulted in it being one of my favorite Shin moments in the entire series. His discussion with Bi Hei in the tent afterwards was fantastic, and really reminded me of why I love his character so much.

Also, just getting to focus on the dynamic of the Hi Shin unit in general was awesome and also felt warranted given the stage we're at in the story. Just as Shin has to grow into a general, his team has to grow as well-- which means they need to experience some growing pains. These growing pains had a name though, which leads me onto my next point...

CHARACTERS

  • KAN KI:
    • AHHHHH! I fucking love Kan Ki. What a chad. He's a horrible guy, but man is he a great character-- definitely up into the favorite tier now. Considering most of the generals and officials we've met up to this point who are obsessed with honor, duty, etc, Kan Ki is just so damn refreshing. He really stole this arc. The part where he simply sat back and did nothing to piss off Kei Sha was frickin’ amazing. While we got a glimpse of him back in the Coalition, I felt like Koku You is where we really got to see what kind of man he is as well as his philosophy on how to wage warfare. I am interested in learning more about his motivations-- why is he so enraged? Why is he mad at everything? The fact that he has a burning rage on the inside, but

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Newbie Blind Review #6: Sanyou + Sanyou Aftermath Arcs (189-256)

Time for another review r/Kingdom! Buckle up, because I have a lot to say about these arcs-- and it seems like its only gonna get crazier from here on in! Hope you all like the new format.

Favorite characters: Ou Ki, Shin, Rin Ko, Kyou Kai, Ei Sei

Favorite panel: https://imgur.com/a/cscmtwV

***********************************************

AHHHHHHH this manga is so fucking good. So good.

This arc took everything the Battle of Bayou did well, and just did it so much better. Themes, drama, characters, pacing, art, storytelling-- all of it was superb. It really feels like Hara is coming into his own here. I'm not sure what it is, but there were certain moments and nuances during this arc that made me pause, and say to myself, "What the hell is this manga up to?" Something is brewing within these pages, and I'm inclined to figure it out. But anyways, yeah, Sanyou was phenomenal, and my favorite arc yet.

Favorite Moments

By far, the best scene of this arc was the final battle between Shin and Rin Ko. Best fight in the series so far, hands down. I was on the edge of my seat reading this-- every blow, Shin's resolve, all the build-up between them up to that point... What made it great was that for the first time, Shin wasn't fighting some random general he was assigned to take out-- Rin Ko was a man that he developed a relationship in the heat of battle, over multiple encounters. The animosity, but also profound respect they they had for each other, made the outcome of this fight bittersweet. I didn't feel happy at all when Rin Ko was slain, and neither did Shin. That moment when the soldiers tell Shin to take his head, and all Shin can do is look down at Rin Ko's body in the mud... that got me. But this is how you write good fights, it's not all about the action-- its about how the confrontation can evolve and shape your characters.

Other great moments included the Hi Shin Unit finding Kyou Kai, Ren Pa's speech to Shin, and also Shin receiving the sword from Ei Sei at the end. I will say that everything that went on at the Qin HQ-- from Mou Gou getting his arm cut off to Ren Pa's decision to retreat-- was such a great read. I just love when Kingdom gives shine to the emotions and feelings of these generals. They're portrayed to be larger than life, but at pivotal moments are shown to be just as human and flawed as the rest of the cast. Also, I really enjoy ev

  1. Location: China
  2. Episode names in order: QINWARRIOR, GREATWALLCHAOS, TERRACOTTATERROR, TIANANMENSQUAREGENOCIDE, MAOZEDONGEXPOSURE, CHIANGKAISHEKINVASION

Time for the contents

QINWARRIOR: During Marco Polo's stay in China, he had found out about something called "qin bricks" which was used for the construction of the Great Wall. It was much more stable than a normal brick and was effective at preventing the Mongols and Russians. He brought home some samples of the bricks but he had died of an unknown cause on the way back to Europe. A few years later, his great grandson went to China and decided to ask some of the locals about qin bricks. He was told that it was made from a weird thing that they hailed as a god. At the time, Special Trees were abundant in China but they didn't know it's true nature. They said it usually bended and produced lighting strikes all over. Having gathered information about qin bricks, he returned home.

GREATWALLCHAOS: The Great Wall was a monumental structure made from qin bricks to prevent an invasion by Mongols and Russians. It is said that emperor Qin Shi Huang led the construction of the wall but during it's construction, Qin Shi Huang had been sucked into a Special Tree while gathering more qin bricks. This led to chaos during the construction and a quarter of the constructed wall had burned during the immense anarchy. Emperor Gaozu lead the construction after the Great Wall Chaos. The construction continued to go smoothly and construction was completed during the rule of the Tang dynasty

TERRACOTTATERROR: Once upon a time, there lived a farmer who lived peacefully, One day, he had found something in his well, it was a terracotta piece. He wasn't sure why it was there so he climbed down and found a massive model of a Terracotta Army. Not long after, this discovery became the talk of the town and the emperor was notified. He sent his advisor to the well and had counted a total of 20,000 soldiers. He declared it "another national monument", the well was demolished, and the farmer moved to somewhere else. On June 3rd 1989, a Chinese photographer went to the Terracotta Army and had recorded a video of one of the soldiers moving it's hand. Immediately after, two of them were moving, then four, then eight, then sixteen, and so on. They began marching towards somewhere but he didn't know. All he knew was that they were pointing at the direction of Tiananmen Square.

Newbie Blind Review #7: The Coalition Invasion Arc (257-356)

r/Kingdom, I have few words to give for an introduction to this review. When talking about arcs like this one, that are so highly-acclaimed by fans of the series (and manga fans in general), it can be difficult to gather all your thoughts appropriately. It certainly was for me.

But my friends, what I can tell you that this arc truly shifted my entire perspective on Kingdom, and what this epic story has slowly become over 300 chapters of action and intrigue.

FAVORITE CHARACTERS: Ou Ki, Shin, Ei Sei, Kyou Kai, Tou

FAVORITE PANEL: https://imgur.com/a/HbrkqzU

Runner-Up Panel: https://imgur.com/a/1Tixlta

**********************************************

Well, where to even begin? This arc was beyond "good" or "great"-- it was the culmination of everything that we had read up to this point. Everything was at stake. The story world as we knew had been blown right open, as we got to meet major players from all of the six states. Some of the most epic battle scenes in the entire story take place. The climax was insanity. The Coalition Arc had just about everything you could want.

So far this is without a doubt the best arc in Kingdom. I have to reread it, but I can say that this is probably one of the best manga arcs that I have ever come across. In terms of pacing and execution-- it is near flawless. In time, it might even earn a spot up with my personal favorites (Golden Age, Water 7/Enies Lobby, Farming, Chimera Ant.) We'll see.

Favorite Moments

My goodness, does all of it count?

First, I have to mention the scene at the beginning when the Qin officials learn that they are being invaded by literally all of China. Every single time a new messenger rushed in to make a new report, the amount of overwhelming dread that oozed out of each panel was gripping. This was coupled perfectly by seeing the Hi Shin Unit look out in horror as they can see multiple advancing armies marching into Qin territory and burning down cities. It was a perfect start to this arc that set the tone beautifully.

Then we have the second best fight in the entire series so far-- Mou Bu vs. Kan Mei. Holy Christ I remember losing my mind when Mou Ten got cut by Kan Mei and Mou Bu just literally destroys his head in one blow. Insane. Other moments I liked included Kan Ki tricking the soldiers in the siege tower into thinking it was on fire, Duke Hyou's

He plotted a surreptitious course out into the rough wilderness surrounding the compound in case he was being watched. He attempted a feint that would make it look like he was trying to aid his allies, but, instead, he made a hard turn and let his inner power flow into the machine under him, a trick one of the other Manifested women had discovered and taught him.

Turning and moving at a speed that should have flipped the quad, Kai shot through the darkness, the tires never leaving the ground or breaking traction. Through his goggles he saw a cluster of RV sized machines and knew he had found the right place. As he neared his destination, a flash of motion from the left caught his eye and he leapt off the quad just before it hit the machine sending it careening into a wooded area.

Kai rolled and came up with the shotgun drawn, burying a pair of slugs into the quick moving vampire. He was impressed at the damage as the slugs split open, ripping apart flesh and sending bits flying.

Rather than finishing his target off, he was forced to spin and fire on the guards who could not match the first opponent’s speed, but were quickly closing. Kai buried slug after slug into strategic loc

Newbie Blind Review #9: Fire Dragons of Wei + State of Ai Arcs (379-437)

Afternoon, r/Kingdom! I'm back with another blind review! For this one, I want to talk mainly about the State of Ai Arc. So I'll have some short words about the first arc, and then my main thoughts on Ai. I can't believe I'm over 400 chapters in at this point! Crazy!

FAVORITE CHARACTERS: Ou Ki, Shin, Ei Sei, Kyou Kai, Ryo Fui

FAVORITE PANEL: https://imgur.com/a/PYcJEab

**************************************************************

Fire Dragons of Wei

While I didn't care for this arc as much as others, I really did enjoy getting to focus on Ou Hon and his perspective. I enjoy how even though he is portrayed as antagonistic to Shin, he shares a similar resolve and spirit when fighting strong opponents. The battle between him and Earl Shi was super cool and really elevated my opinion of Ou Hon in general. (Plus, spears are just cool.) We even got a little insight into the relationship between him and Ou Sen as well-- which I am looking to see more of. Have we ever seen them interact on panel?

Otherwise the arc served its purpose. Didn't feel much for the Fire Dragons, and I'm not sure how much more of them we will see in the future. I guess it kind of hammers home the point of "Out with the old, in with the new"-- as one of the things that was stressed consistently was the fact that the next class of "great generals" is rising up. I'm sure Shin, and Ou Hon, are meant to fill that role.

State of Ai

Holy Crap, I did not expect to like this arc as much as I did. What a fantastic culmination to all the build-up we got for the Ryo Fui/Queen Mother v. Ei Sei conflict. Currently, this arc is tied for my second favorite in the series alongside with Sanyou. The writing was phenomenal-- and in my opinion was on par with Coalition in that respect.

FAVORITE MOMENTS

Normally a kingdom arc is either a battle arc or politics arc, but this one was truly both. For that reason, the drama and stakes seemed ever so higher.

I think by far, the entire debate between Ryo Fui and Ei Sei over the proper way to govern Qin and China, was my favorite moment. What an incredible set of chapters. To see Ryo Fui FINALLY lay all his cards and intentions out on the table was not only satisfying, but also caught me off guard. His philosophy and views on human nature, as well as Ei Sei's stunning response, had me completely hooked. The dialogue between them was very we

What Riboku should do for Zhao

I think that what Riboku should do for Zhao, well what he should’ve done since the time of the former king is regicide, kill his freaky son who seems as twisted and as sick as the old king and Kaku Kai. These dudes are the real issue here because as long as they are there, Riboku will never be able to fight at full power. He was always hindered by the royal court and all the scheming; he could never rely on the full support of Kantan because of how incompetent the royal court is.

Maybe he doesn’t want to because it would create civil unrest, but the old king was killed and no one cared. So, I think he should prepare a coup and bring back Ka as the new king of Zhao only then can he fight at full strength (But this isn’t something he would do)and if he got rid of the new king, he could even bring back Renpa and then he could deal some serious damage to Qin but as long as he continues to fight while idiots and freaks rule Zhao, he will never be able to fight at full strength. The thing is that his loyalty is to Zhao not to the royal family and the best thing he could do for Zhao is kill the current king and get rid of Kakukai.

Feeling ready to give up

I started my basic phone journey back in March. It really has been a journey, both technologically and introspectively. I've learned a lot about myself and my priorities since then. I want to start out by saying that I LOVE having a basic phone, and I do not want to go back to the smartphone life, but I'm losing hope that that can be a reality.

I have tried more phones than I can count, but I still feel like I'm searching for "the one". I cannot seem to find a phone that is reliable long term. My requirements are simple. I need texting (with the ability to receive pictures), calling, and hotspot. I also have a strong preference for a physically small phone. The texting is my first priority. I text a lot. I am completely comfortable with T9, when it is high quality T9. I use Red Pocket (GSMA which is AT&T) so it needs to work on that network. I want to keep my provider because they are ridiculously cheap.

I can't possibly list or even remember all the phones I've tried, but here are a few of the notable ones:

Schok Classic- Currently using this one. It is probably the best I've used. The texting has its flaws, though. Often I will type a 2 or 3 letter word, and the prediction will try to fill in a much longer word. This leads to 5+ button presses to type a word like "in" because I have to scroll through the whole list to find my word. Buttons also don't always respond to my presses. This might be because my fingers are small and the Schok is quite large and uncomfortable in my hands. Another negative is the short battery life, although not a deal breaker.

Xiaomi ZMI Z1- This was my favorite. I used it for several months until one day it just stopped sending and receiving texts. No clue why and I couldn't get it to work so I took my sim out. It wasn't perfect. I never could figure out how to add custom words to the dictionary, so some words were a pain to type. Other than that, great phone. Small form factor, premium feel, instant hotspot switch, insane battery life.

Nokia 6300- Mine was extremely laggy and became unusable. My poor experience makes me hesitant to try any other KaiOS devices.

Nokia 3310 3G- Another favorite. Excellent texting. Tiny. Adorable. Unfortunately, only 3G so it can't be a long-term solution. If it were 4G I think it would be The One.

I know there are others out there I could try. There are some I see recommended on here all the time that I haven't tried yet. The Sunbeam, the AGMs, the LG Classic, t

I know some people have complained about Shin stats but if you look at stats over time maybe you can appreciate his mad growth. Total stats are the sum of strength + leadership + intelligence.

https://preview.redd.it/qyfv6hcmb0181.png?width=424&format=png&auto=webp&s=429991995cb1c53bc5bdc9b0e5a0e16089dd19cf

Purple: Ouki (for reference - Great General tier)

Red: Ouhon

Green: Mouten

Blue: KyouKai

Orange: Shin

Yellow: Heki (for reference - beta general)

Stats are only so helpful in gauging the abilities of a general, especially all 3 combined. Rei Ou had 38 strength yet was one of the Wei Fire Dragons due to his high intelligence and leadership. The stats do give a general idea of the abilities of a character... All 3 combined give an idea of how well rounded someone is.

One of the things I found was that Shin's leadership has grown from 70 to 86 since volume 20. Mad growth.

Here is another graph without KyouKai and Heki cluttering it up and zoomed out to show the whole range for a better view of how close these generals are now.

https://preview.redd.it/ohr4vj11e0181.png?width=425&format=png&auto=webp&s=df726a4184400c1d302adf24abdf3d9623add3d1

Mouten and Ouhon grew a total of 3 points in between guidebook 2 and 3. Shin grew 9 points.

So in conclusion yeah Shin is the lowest in total of the 3 Qin bois but he is closing that gap. I could see him someday being about the same level of leadership. I'm sure he will always be lower in intelligence as a peasant-born and uneducated instinct general. Shin's intelligence hasn't stopped improving yet, growing from 70 to 76 from volume 20 to book 3 , and I personally feel this is reflected in the manga.

Petition to ban rants from this sub

Ants don’t even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.

But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

6GG Who will die/jailed/banished to make room for Shin, Kyou Kai, Ou Hon, Mou Ten

6 Great Generals Who will die/jailed/banished to make room for Shin, Kyou Kai, Ou Hon, Mou Ten.

from where the Manga is up to.

im not saying that they will all become part of the 6 GG but some of them must!

What do you all think?

here is my 2 cents:

Ou Sen - jailed or killed for trying to take the throne.

Kan Ki - jailed or killed for his heinous crimes against people, or betrays Qin so he can kill decent enemies. (i mean come on 1 of his plans has to backfire)

i mean for Shin to be the best GG a bunch have to die.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies πŸ˜‚

Newbie Blind Review #8: Kyou Kai's Revenge + Conspiracy in the Court Arcs (357-378)

Hey r/Kingdom! Took a short hiatus from reading, but I'm back with more arc reviews to start the second half of this journey! These two arcs were a nice breather from the insanity of the Coalition Arc, but I liked them nonetheless. We got some great character focus and much needed set-up for the next leg of the story-- let's dig in!

Favorite Characters: Ou Ki, Shin, Ei Sei, Kyou Kai, Tou

Favorite Panel: https://imgur.com/a/wt0WRjB

Kyou Kai's Revenge

Anybody else have a crush on Kyou Kai? Just me? Okay...

In all seriousness, I had been waiting for this arc for a long time-- especially since Kyou Kai wasn't involved in the Coalition War. It was really great to focus on her perspective and to see her finally put the past behind her.

To me the most interesting part from this arc was the exploration of the Shiyuu-- and how Kyou Kai was able to overcome her opponent by finding a new source of strength. Up to this point, it has been clear that the Shiyuu had become so powerful by severing their emotional connections to the world and each other. (Hence, the ritual and everything that it represents.) Kyou Kai pointing out the weakness of that philosophy, and realizing that she could rely on the bonds she made with Shin and her comrades, was such a huge turning point for her character. The imagery of using her friends as a sort of tether to keep her from succumbing to the dance was beautiful. It feels like she's let go of all her baggage and can finally let down her guard a little bit-- some great character work.

And that bit at the end about Kyou Kai not knowing how babies are made and telling Shin she wants to have his child?! Oh my God, I was dying. But yeah if her and Shin don't end up together by the end, then I'm not sure what the point of that is. Anyways, I love Kyou Kai. I love her relationship with Shin and also Ten at this point. The fact that she's now also resolved to become a great general is exciting and I can't wait to see what she has to offer the story going forward.

Conspiracy in the Court

Well, I guess I hate Sei Kyou a little less now?

I certainly wasn't expecting his character to come back as I had completely forgotten about him. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the role his character played in this arc. As the guy who was introduced as a minor antagonist-- seeing him entrust the future of Qin to Ei Sei and Shin w

Newbie Blind Review #4: Battle of Bayou Arc (108-173)

We're back r/Kingdom! And boy do we have a fun one today... I'm almost 200 chapters in and it's getting harder and harder to take breaks. This manga slaps man!

Favorite Characters: OU KI, Shin, Ei Sei, Tou, Kyou Kai --(Sorry Heki)

Wow, what a fantastic arc.

First off, let's have a moment of silence for my man Ou Ki. He was already my favorite character (mostly because of his design and introduction)-- but damn, this arc gave him the spotlight and really fleshed out his character. Shin always says he wants to be a Great General under the Heavens. But I feel like this arc, for the first time, actually showed us as the reader (and Shin) what a Great General truly is. The larger than life personality; the wisdom; the symbolic nature; the incredible strength of spirit-- these are the standards that Shin has to live up to if he is to accomplish his dream.

I'm so glad that we got that presented to us through Ou Ki and what he represented to not only Qin, but all of China. He's legendary. Seeing him rally the entire army after Hou Ken had already shoved his glaive through his chest gave me goosebumps. I will miss this character dearly. (But alas, the mentor character always dies. I cannot say I am surprised.)

Okay enough about Ou Ki. Let's talk about the Hi Shin Unit for a second. I NEVER thought I would care for his squad members as much as I do now. I honestly didn't like Bi Hei and Bi Tou when we first met them back in Keiyou. I thought that they were fodder characters that would fade away into the background. Holy shit was I wrong. I actually couldn't believe Bi Tou died-- that part for me was more emotional than Ou Ki's death. The way the other members of the squad like Bi Hei, Ryuusen, Suugen, En, etc. are getting screen time is so awesome. I love the bonds that starting to form between them and Shin-- everything feels earned and organic. The way that they are growing alongside Shin is a dynamic that I hope stays central to the story.

There are two other characters that I'm keeping on my radar: Hou Ken and Ri Boku. I know for a fact Hou Ken has not shown his full potential because he strayed from his "path" while focusing on revenge against Ou Ki. And Ri Boku? ... something is up with that guy. I don't know what or who the hell he is-- but I have a feeling that he will come back in a BIG way. I
