A list of puns related to "Patrick Troughton"
With Chris Eccleston joining Big Finish next month, thus completing a chronological listing of all main Doctors to do so (and lets be honest, its only a matter of time with Capaldi, and I reckon Smith will do it one day), do you think the three Doctors who had passed away before Big Finish began doing DW audios would have been up for reprising the roles on radio (say if a company had done it in the mid-70s for instance?).
Since the 60th Anniversary is coming up in a couple years, can we all agree that Patrick Troughton, the superb actor who gave Doctor Who the life and longevity it retains today, deserves his own dramatisation about his time working on the show and the three subsequent times he returned to it before his untimely death? The only issue I can see is finding someone who can pull off a convincing impression, both physically and vocally. If the BBC could get someone they should not hesitate to get this thing into production as soon as possible. Anyone agree or disagree? Cheers xoxo
Just thinking. Early 60s, William Hartnell is the Doctor. There is no other. Then, during his run two movie versions of Doctor Who are made with another actor as Doctor Who. Could this, in some small way, have planted or strengthened the idea that the public could accept a recast of the part?
What missing classic story do you want to see animated next
Considering this post is about a Doctor Who actor who died at a Doctor Who convention (that I heard about in a Doctor Who Podcast) I figured this is a related enough to post here.
Anyway: I was listening to the Doctor Who Target Book Club Podcast (specifically Episode 50, the Auton Invasion for those who want too look up the context of what Iβm talking about) the host were talking about the deaths of both John Pertwee and Patrick Troughton and alluded to there being rumours around Troughtonβs death, that there was more to it, but they didnβt specify due to fears of being sued. Obviously this peaked my interest. Are there rumours circling around the Fandom about what happened at that convention in 1987? Is there something sinister about Troughtonβs unfortunate death? Any ideas?
TLDR: I heard there are rumours about Patrick Troughtonβs death; what are they?
The Second Doctor is my favourite of the lot. He has so many classic stories and he has the best companion imo, Jamie. My top 3 stories of his are:
1- The Enemy Of The World, this story is epic! I wasnβt expecting to enjoy this story as much as I did. This story confirmed, to me, that Patrick Troughton is my favourite doctor. This story has a cool James Bond feel to it and Patrick Troughton gives an outstanding performance in this! I canβt believe how much I underestimated how good this story would be...
2- The Evil Of The Daleks, this story has some plot holes but I still really enjoy it! Iβve seen the reconstruction and Iβve heard it many timeβs now and I enjoy it more each time. This story just has so much going on, it has an epic feel to it. I particularly love how this story allows Jamie a lot of time to shine. Also Victorian settings are my favourite settings!
3- The Tomb Of The Cybermen, my favourite Cyberman story. I think this was the first Patrick Troughton story I saw and I loved it. The Cybermen are great in this story. I love when they break out of their tombs, one of the classic scenes, and their voices are so creepy in this one. I love how they overpower Toberman like heβs weak, when heβs actually really strong, because it shows just how strong Cybermen are.
Honourable mentions: The Power Of The Daleks, The Web Of Fear, The Mind Robber and The War Games
I could give honourable mentions to most of his stories but Iβm going to keep it at 4. I havenβt seen, or heard, Fury From The Deep yet but I reckon thatβs going to get a high ranking on my list. Iβve heard many good things about Fury From The Deep.
What are your top 3?
So, I don't know about you, but I REALLY hate what the show has been turning into recently. I just feel like it's lost all of its charm ever since Hartnell left. I mean, it hardly even feels like Doctor Who anymore! It's weird, it's different! I don't like it!! And this supposed "new Doctor" just completely sucks ass! He's nothing The Doctor at all! This Patrick Troughton hack (more like, Pisstake Turdton, am I right?) has RUINED a once dignified and subtle character by turning him into an idiotic clown! I can't take this "Doctor" seriously at all (because of course, this is a show that was always meant to be taken super seriously). Like, how are we supposed to buy that villains are intimidated by this loser? He's not the Hartnell Doctor at all! (Because of course, that's definitely what they're going for). And he's just way too young to play The Doctor. As we all know, The Doctor just IS an old man, The Doctor has always been an old man. If you make The Doctor young, it just isn't The Doctor. Why would they make such a clearly egregious change? Obviously it's a political move. And it's also clear that the producer, Innes Lloyd must hate old men. Because of course, if you want representation for young men, it means you must hate old men. It doesn't even make any SENSE either! How the hell can The Doctor turn himself into a completely different person?!? When was this established before?!? NEVER!! This whole "renewal" bullshit has COMPLETELY destroyed the canon!! And how the fuck can The Doctor become a young man after being an old man for so long? Don't they know that it is a FACT that The Doctor definitely always has to be an old man!? The show is RUINED!!! Also, the whole show just isn't any good anymore. It's nothing like what came before and is instead a fat load of completely different crap! Doctor Who has now lost its great educational merits and mission, and has instead become your typical commercial sci-fi bullshit. I was PISSED to discover that Innes Lloyd got rid of the historicals, which were the best part of the show. He has ruined the show completely by making it all about exactly what it was never ever meant to be about: bug eyed monsters. Innes Lloyd is a hack fraud scumbag fuckhead who has destroyed Doctor Who! I hope he gets run over by a truck. And fuck this new companion, Jamie! I mean, why is he Scottish? Can't the actor do anything other than a Scottish accent? Clearly, the companion having a Scottish accent is all the evidence you nee
... keep reading on reddit β‘My mission is to start redoing all of the old films & series to a higher quality. Yeah, you can't pull out details that weren't captured, but there are apps that can imagine what details were there and they do it flawlessly! (remini).
Some people LOVE the idea (just as I do), and you guys are awesome!
and some become quite condescending and rude (I don't read rude comments so don't bother if that's you).
But nevertheless, I'm going for it. :'D
Enjoy
Which one(s) is/are your favourite(s) from his era?
Such a missed opportunity
To celebrate this, let me count down my (personal) five favourites from his three-season run. For those in quarantine, perhaps consider these five stories as a bit of light entertainment.
βPower Of The Daleksβ (6 episodes, 6 missing, 6 animated). This story, the first post-regeneration story, will be familiar in a way to any 11th Doctor fans; the βI am your soldierβ theme from Victory Of The Daleks starts here (βI am your ser-vant!β). A chilling story, the Daleks are at their most cunning here. Watch everyone carefully manipulate each other, the Daleks clearly holding the upper hand throughout despite their βsubservientβ role. And, for those of you with a dislike of mass death, perhaps skip the last episode. Itβs a bloodbath.
βTomb Of The Cybermenβ (4 episodes, all available). Cliched, I know, but this is a brilliant starting-point for 60s Doctor Who. It does suffer from unfortunate racial stereotypes (there is a black mute servant who βturns goodβ and the main human villains have convenient βforeignβ accents), yes. But as a story, it holds up. The first two episodes are an intrigue-filled slow buildup featuring logic, deceit, and exploration, while the last two episodes are a dangerous race to outwit the Cybermen, who are chilling in this story. The Cybermen arguably have one of their most iconic moments at the end of episode 2. That scene may very well be truly famous. Also, the model and set work is impressive, especially for the 1960s!
βThe Web Of Fearβ (6 episodes, 1 missing, 1 telesnap reconstruction or fan animation available). This is Doctor Who doing horror perfectly. The B&W adds to the creepiness of the first episode, as the yeti recovered in βThe Abominable Snowmenβ (previous viewing not required) rise up and, for one of the first times in Doctor Who history, take over London. Watch as the Brigadier, then Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart, enters the Doctorβs life for the first time, and then slowly realises that everyoneβs out of their depth. The underground sets have very squeaky floorboards, true, but the tunnels underground and dark, trapped feel of the episode really heightens the tension throughout the story.
βThe Invasionβ (8 episodes, 2 missing, 2 animated). This may be the best long story Doctor Who has ever done. For 4 episodes, there is no sight of the βalienβ villains of the story. Instead, you meet the enigmatic Tobias Vaughn, who is obviously evil but has a certain charisma about him. Meanwhile, in episode 2, watch βh
The Second Doctor, often silly, comical and sometimes downright childish; a far cry from Hartnell's Doctor, and the reason the show was able to last as long as it has and hopefully will continue to last. Because Troughton playing a (mostly) different character was so successful, it allowed future actors to play their Doctors in their own way.
Favourite serial? ClichΓ©, I know, but Tomb of the Cybermen. The Doctor's talks with Victoria about family and how no one else in the universe can do what they're doing.
Favourite season? Season 5 (Ttoughton's second)
Favourite companion(s)? Jamie and Victoria. I mean, Jamie and The Doctor is such a good pairing of characters. I also like Jamie's attitude to future tech; very accepting of it, even if he doesn't quite understand it.
Favourite enemy/monster? The Ice Warriors
Favourite moment?
Favourite quote/speech?
Again, the above questions are just examples, feel free to talk about anything to do with Troughton's era!
