A list of puns related to "Fairbanks"
Iβve watched the videos and read reviews from people who live/lived there, but I donβt think thatβs enough to really grasp or understand what Iβm getting myself into. So is there anything I should know about before I go? This can refer to the culture, people, weather, policies, etc.
Iβm honestly kinda nervous but also excited lol, the pictures Iβve seen are so beautiful. Btw Iβm originally from Minnesota so the cold wonβt be too much to adapt to, so I already know Iβll be good on that front
Sort of spoilers, since it's a minor character, but: what do you do with Fairbanks? This is specifically regarding the "Noble Deeds, Noble Heart" quest.
I'm in the Emerald Graves right now, reminded of how it's probably my favorite level (beautiful), and I just put down the Freemen of the Dales once and for all (killed the chevalier at Argon's Lodge).
And once again, I've given proof of Fairbanks' noble lineage to Clara, who plans to present it to the Council of Heralds. This is what I've done in most of my playthroughs, followed by either leaving him to his own devices, but now with the power of a noble, or getting Josephine and her friends to back him at Court and turn him into a fascinating "rebel noble" figure. (I never go with Leliana's plan to allow him to embarrass himself at Court and watch the "wolves," that's just cruel, imo.) I think he ends up well off in this path, despite his hatred toward his grandfather.
In my first / canon playthrough, however, I spoke to Fairbanks before Clara when I returned to their camp, and he asked about my "investigation." Then he pleaded his case on how he wanted absolutely nothing to do with the Game and wanted to remain Fairbanks. Then, I felt guilty and handed over the proof of his birth, and he became an Inquisition Agent and remained Fairbanks.
Which do you think is a better path for him?
Iβm from Florida and The Arctic circle has always been on my bucket list. Does anyone here have experience driving that route in the summer or shoulder months and would it be foolish for a tourist to drive that?
Hi! Iβm going to be moving to Fairbanks in late February from NC (no, I wonβt be flying and no, I donβt have pneumonia and yes, if I did, I would delay my trip. We arenβt all a bunch of COVID denying yokels, I swear.)
Iβm doing Americorps for one year and am looking for housing closer to the Ft Wainwright, SW side of town (looking at google maps). Gonna be making that sweet Americorps dough (stipend is ~$1300 per month), so Iβm looking for something mega cheap and maybe furnished? Anyone looking for a roommate? Iβm keeping an eye on craigslist but thought Iβd utilize every possible resource. 30F with a sense of humor and a killer recipe for black eyed pea chowder.
Iβm coming up with my subaru. Will I need to get it winterized at the end of February, or will she make it until the summer as is? edit: will get winterized up there. Anyone got a guy they really like?
What kind of cold weather gear do I really need? I have a pair of Merrell Moab hiking boots. Will these be sufficient or nah? I havenβt seen more than an inch of wet snow in 20+ years, so I am anticipating having to buy some things, any suggestions of must haves for a year would be greatly appreciated.
Where do you go to make a friend? I heard yβall donβt really do that, but if anyone wants to!
Super stoked to come up and see yβalls neat little town. Thanks!
I will be moving to Fairbanks in the spring with my partner and we are really hoping to buy house in our first year since the rental market seems expensive and scarce. Those that have bought/are currently buying in the Fairbanks area, what is the market like and what are some of the specific things I should be careful of looking for a home in this area?
I've also been checking the Zillow "sold" section, and I feel like there's a lot of houses that have recently sold I did not see publicly listed first, is that common?
We would like to buy in town, or semi-close since I'll be working at the University- and we are just not tough enough to live in a dry cabin year-round!
Itβs me. Iβm the family member who is afraid of heights.
Weβve never been to AK and are planning a family trip for spring break in March in order to maximize our chances of seeing the northern lights and to tackle a bucket list item for someone in our party.
I love to look at the mountains but get anxious driving on mountain paths. As an example, while I enjoyed the Grand Canyon, I pretty much had to keep my eyes closed on much of the drive up. I like to look at mountains but Iβm less enthusiastic about going up or down a mountain.
We arenβt hikers or anything but I wanted to get a handle on how much mountain travel is involved in taking advantage of other experiences in and near Fairbanks.

My gf got my a pair of these boots after I had to toss an older pair of snow boots. After a year of use, Iβve noticed some inconsistency.
There are some days where my feet will be as toasty as I could ever ask for, and some days where they can never get warm. Iβm not doing anything different during these uses; regardless of the activity. Even under the same weather and temperature conditions I get inconsistent results. 27 degrees out? Toes are frozen. Next day 22 degrees out? So toasty theyβre sweating.
I first thought to blame the Omni-heat for being a sham, but I have a pair of pants and a jacket that both have omni-heat and keep me consistently warm better than anything Iβve ever ownedβ¦ so tbh, I donβt get it.
Anyone else noticed anything like this?
Does anyone know of (affordable) companies that ship vehicles from lower 48 to Fairbanks right now/in winter? Weβve contacted multiple places but havenβt had much luck or itβs been a quote of $4500. Only shipping the car.
Saw the last storm really messed everything up there.
Iβm going to Fairbanks next month and I would like to ski for at least one day. I know the mountains are smaller than the Anchorage resorts but which one is the best? Skiland, Moose Mountain or Birch Hill?
Just applied to UAF for a MFA. If I get in/decide to goc Iβd be coming up alone from New York in August. Due to the current COVID situation, Iβm a little worried about the drive, especially with regulations in Canada. Iβm also a little worried because Iβm a fairly new driver (<5 years). Iβm trying to find the best relationship between cost and hassle for moving it up there now. Does anybody have any insight into this?
Hey, r/Fairbanks! I'm visiting the city in late March, and I had a few questions:
Would all-weather tires be okay for driving? Are the main roads well maintained? The farthest I'm planning to go is Chena Hot Springs.
If snow tires are needed, which rental place would you recommend? The big players like Avis and Enterprise don't seem to have them.
Hi,
I can't get reasonable rental car prices for Jun 2022 for my Alaska trip. UHaul is cheaper by a big margin. Can I use UHaul van to go from Fairbanks to Denali National Park. The dates will be after June 20. I'm hoping that highways would be easy enough to drive in that weather. I'm worried from -
