Add fill inside outline font?

I have a basic pixel font thats more of an outline font. Typing with it, you see the black outlines, and the actual characters are defined with the transparent area within the outline.

I'm trying to edit the font to be opaque. Basically retaining the black outline, but filling the inside with white. I've used fonts like these, and I'm trying to use FontLab to edit it, but cannot figure out how to add the white fill.

Any ideas?

Transparent Font outline that doesn't overlap

Hello,

I want to outline text. The last time I tried it, I had an issue where the outline overlaps with the text if I make them transparent (for things like a fading effect).
Is there a good way to prevent this from happening?

Do I need to remember to always outline fonts before exporting to SVG?

I didn't think I needed to, though I just used a free font that my Mac warned me had a single error on some area on import. It failed the

> 'name' table structure

validation on import, but still worked. But it didn't work within an SVG on a website after exporting a design from Illustrator. The font shows up differently on the website in the SVG and dis all wrong. The SVG looks fine on my Mac though.

Anyway it got me thinking, should I outline all fonts when exporting to SVG? I didn't think it was necessary, but this has been an eye opener and I'm thinking maybe from now on I should err on the side of caution and always outline.

fonts that work when overlaid over a video (high contrast 2-tone fones? outline fonts?) Is there a name for this?

Basically, I use a lot of shell, and have the option of making my terminal emulator transparent. But whenever I do and there's a movie on in the background "underneath" my terminal- dark scenes or regions will make the text unreadable unless I swap the polarity of the font colors, but then light scenes or regions will make the text unreadable. Single color fonts do not work well for this sort of purpose. So does anybody know what the best solution for that sort of problem is?

I would prefer a monospace font, or just the type of font category that would be useful. I've seen "neon" fonts that look like they might do the trick.

Thanks for reading my post! :) Whoops typo. "fones" lol

Cannot Adjust Closed Captions (Font, Size, Outline, Color, etc.)

I got closed captions on Rev.com. They allow me to download it in many different files. I tried .srt, .scc, and .mcc. I tried each one of them, placing them on the video track above my footage on video track 1 and cannot get any of them to adjust font, size, outline, color etc. in the window > captions. My temporary workaround is just adjusting scale and position in effects controls, but that's not want I want and it doesn't give me nearly as many options. Please help, thanks!

How does Dynamic Font Outline work in Shaders?

Answer I found: Use COLOR instead of the TEXTURE to check for the outline if you want to omit/manipulate it

I have a shader on a text label but when I add an outline to the dynamic font, the shader applies to it strangely/slightly offset upward. I also can't seem to apply any conditional statements to affect only the text or only the outline so I'm puzzled what's going on with DF outlines

https://preview.redd.it/c8hef6sbpmo61.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=8741eee1545826aa2bbd881213b47b64ea29205a

void fragment()

{

	vec4 tex_col = texture(TEXTURE, UV);

	vec3 grad_col = texture(gradient_color, vec2(UV.y * ratio, 0.0) ).rgb;

	grad_col = (floor( ( (grad_col) \* 256.0) / bands) * bands) / 256.0;

	COLOR = vec4(grad_col.r, grad_col.g, grad_col.b, tex_col.a);

}

But if I add something like:

if (tex_col != outline_color){

	grad_col = tex_col.rgb;

}

Nothing changes. It has me curious how font outlines are applied/how we can check what's outline and what isn't - and if that could give some hints as to how I can keep a font outline without the shader being applied to the outline itself.

Anyone have any insight?

Edit: OK, still unsure how to handle the problem but here's what I've noted:

  • letters are grabbed from the font texture and put on a new texture(? I think?) as white
  • Outline is made based on the edges going both inward and outward also white
  • I assume(?) outline is thrown on its own texture
  • If we have our own shader, it combines the textures and lets us do whatever
  • If not, Godot handles coloring the text and outline and then combines the textures?

Modulate seems to work fine but if in my shader I do anything, it only acts on it as a solid color (white as base?). I dont know for sure but this seems like the case since in the shader, a conditional for white always works on both outline and font regardless of what I set those colors as.

Edit: And it makes sense to not use the texture then!

if(COLOR.rgb == outline_color.rgb){

	grad_col = outline_color.rgb;

}

Hope this helps someone out in the future.

Only some missing fonts being converted to outlines

I'm confused because Illustrator is automatically converting most of the text to outlines when I open it, but one particular part isn't converted, and instead it just replaces it with a default font. I know you can place a PDF into a document to keep the appearance, but that flattens it completely for me, and there are individual elements I need to work on. In the meantime I'm just going to make the changes I need in acrobat, but I was hoping to find out for future reference why illustrator is behaving this way.
