A list of puns related to "Outgassing"
Does anyone know why NASA's outgassing database is down? Any word on when it'll be back up? Looking through the excel file has not been fun..
We've been struggling with the advice we've gotten on secondary fastening.
On one hand, nylon-insert lock nuts (nyloc nuts) are great. They're removable, not messy, and good secondary locking for nuts, at least on the ground. But the nylon inserts we assume (like most nylon) is hygroscopic, so it'll absorb and then outgas water. It doesn't seem like it would be much water, but maybe it's more than we think? Also it seems like we could bake this out if we really cared?
Our launch provider recommends using Loctite 242 ("blue" loctite), which "lots of people" say is great. However, Loctite 242 outgasses terribly (according to the NASA outgassing database) and we've seen white residue left over by Loctite venting material out of the hole it's in while it's curing. We're completely flummoxed that our launch provider says it's better than nylock. What has your launch provider said?
Anybody have experience or care to weigh in? Thanks!
We know that Oumuamua was tumbling, ie:
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41550-018-0398-z
Many people have asked what caused Oumuamua's sudden non gravitational acceleration:
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-018-0254-4
And the answer appears to be:

"nozzle-like venting of volatiles"
Fair enough. But if the object is tumbling violently through space, how exactly would directional thrust be possible?
I bought a bookshelf and the wooden bits are giving off a terribly noxious gas. I woke up unable to use hardly any of my lung capcigy and I had to go to the ER for a breathing treatment. One of my cats also needed to go to the veterinary ER for coughing and breathing problems too. I put the furniture outside and put fans around the house to blow out the gas, but there is still a STRONG smell and my breathing isn't much better. What should I do?
Anyone have any tips on this? I'm on my 2nd Fit and it is so hard to clean that residue off my inner windows. I seem to just move it around.
I'm reading this paper:

page 8, 10 lines down.

I found this video earlier today and it looks fairly interesting. The guy uses a few different plastic blemish repair products to remove the hazing from his record. Gonna try it later this week.
What are your thoughts on it?
Has anyone ever tested Formlab's Engineering materials for outgassing? Or at the very least, does their material make bubbles in their prints?
I've searched NASA's outgassing material database, but I haven't seen any of Formlab's stuff there (unless I'm bad at using their archaic website).
I had a habanero, carrot, onion, orange and garlic ferment in a 4% brine going for 3 weeks. Everything looked perfect. It seemed done so I bottled it up. Two of the bottles are outgassing, the other 4 are not. The jar I did the ferment also got white and cloudy. It might have been kahm yeast, didn't think to take a pic. The one bottle I tasted before I realized something was up did smell and taste slightly of alcohol.
So, was thinking I should definitely dump the bottles outgassing, and possibly just all of them and start over. Or I could take the bottles with no activity and add lime juice or vinegar.
I suspect the issue was the orange I fermented. I don't know why that would be, but I've never gotten a ferment with citrus to actually work. Previous time I tried it I had mold.
Please advise.
Iβm building a cedar strip canoe and have fiberglassed the interior and exterior of the hull. During the interior fiberglass, I kept running into issues with outgassing, and have cured with a few bubbles trapped under the fiberglass.
Obviously, thereβs no turning back from here, but would it be better to leave them alone and accept the compromise in hull integrity that they are or cut into the fiberglass and fill them with epoxy to try to get rid of them?
Any help is appreciated.
