WIT: a Bausch and Lomb optical device of some sort. Found in am old HS biology room. Has a prism in the center cylinder and seemingly three lenses. Nobody at the HS knows what it is, and I haven't found anything like it online. It's definitely not an otoscope. Standard microscope slide for scale. reddit.com/gallery/qqwmfq

Where to acquire an optical (dispersive) prism?

Hello all~ I hope this is an okay place to ask this (if not, I can delete).

I'm looking for a small optical prism for my altar. Essentially, I want a pretty piece of glass that makes rainbows. Does anyone know where I could acquire such an object?

Thanks~

In the way an optical prism refracts light to show the visible spectrum, are there materials that act as prisms to other frequencies of the greater EM spectrum - eg, something that refracts ionizing radiation to produce a spectrum between Extreme UV and Gamma rays or maybe Far infrared and UHF?

Who discovered the optical prism? How?

I'm aware of Newton's discoveries using the prism, I'm asking how the prism itself came to be. Was it just by chance someone came across the prisms shape?

So far my googling has only turned up Newton's results and how he discovered the spectrum of colors.

Thank you in advance.

Use of prisms with Optical Metrology

Has anyone on this subreddit ever used a right angle prism with an OMM (like an OGP Smartscope, MicroVu, etc)? I've had some applications where I'm trying to relate two features that are not visible from the same angle, but instead are on perpendicular faces.

I've heard of this technique before, but I'm curious if anyone has tried it and what the results were. Below is a link for an example of the type of prism I'm referring to. If you place one of these next to your part (assuring parallelism using fixturing), the OMM can see both the top and the side (reflected on the prism) concurrently, and you can measure the distance between features on the two faces (but only in one direction - along the prism's length).

An optical tool? It contains a prism, probably in cristal. When you turn the rough part under the cristal, the thing closes. According to text on top it's made in Switzerland. The other visible letters are "ARAY". The redt is covered by paint. Inside the handle, there is a sort of screw.
