A list of puns related to "Official Statistics"
With so much fear being spread on this sub and other groups, it is making me nervous af. Some post I just read, some guy got a room with ants, no soap, and dirty bathroom? That's terrible....
It's not as easy to just say "so don't come to Thailand!"
I want to make an informed decision based on my own personal circumstances, and what the actual reality of the risk is vs the fear spread online.
As you probably know, mainly the unlucky few are motivated enough to post about their situation, and the others who arrive and all is fine just get on with their trip.
I quit my job (pre-Omicron), and gave up my apartment to take 6 months out of work, where 2-3 months of that would be in Thailand and/or SE Asia.
This is a once in a decade, maybe even lifetime, sort of thing... I've been planning it for a long time, my flights and first 2 nights are booked, and my Thai Pass approved. My flight is also for 8th Jan so it's just before the potential cut-off on 10th Jan.
However, I'm still shitting bricks right now. I'm trying to be calm, telling myself it will be worth it and I have planned this for a long time, and in reality the odds are in my favour.
I'm travelling alone. I have AXA Sawasdee insurance which covers symptomatic and asymptomatic expenses if testing positive. Great, costs will be covered.
What won't be covered is the cost on my mental health if i was subjected to 2-weeks in a dirty, ant-ridden, soapless box far far away from home and on my own with no one around that gives a shit.
Sorry, this is a bit ranty but it's all to say- how can I balance my fear with real data and what sources can I trust to identify information on things like what percentage of arrivals are now testing positive? Bonus if I can see some sort of trend analysis to see if there's a sudden sharp ramp due to Omicron.
Thanks for your help so far folks as I know some of you may have helped on my other posts leading up to this exciting but nerve wracking trip.
The 2.2 million long term unemployed is where those cut off and no longer counted at all are missed. Between red states who ended benefits early and those who lost benefits on Sept 4, more than 20 million people were cut off.
If those people were still counted, the number of long term unemployed would be counted several times higher, and likely number more than 10 million people.
(based in USA) This is probably already a baseline fact that any person who studies statistics beyond a high school level already knows, and this may be a noob as question to ask you all but anyway: How in the world can we give accurate statistical information about American health (and life)? especially with covid and such i see statistical info that claims: x percent of americans have gotten the vaccine, or x percent of americans have had intense reaction from getting vaccinated, etcβ¦ not trying to refer to COVID exclusively but how are βvalidβ and βaccurateβ statistical conclusions and data being made about this topic and whatever else? As i far as i know, such heath information can (only?) be brought to light if the person themself decides to share such personal medical info because of HIPPA laws. are data claims and calculations about topics like these based on self report (which is one of the most inaccurate source of accurate data)? i ask politely for anyone to Please give me insight on how statistical statements like these are calculated (when to my personal knowledge) there is no way we can include every or even most of americansβ true input and data.
Even if those statistics reveal an uncomfortable truth about immigration or the coronavirus.
Silencing someone who provides facts to back up their claim is a dangerous path.
CORRECTION: 245 MILLION hours not 245K
Netflix has recently launched a platform to view which movies and tv shows are in their top 10 list by week and country.
Hometown Cha Cha Cha has been watched for 245M hours while it has been in the top 10. (It entered the top 10 from the second week of its airing)
It is also the only non English show to be in the top 10 for 11 weeks and counting
