A list of puns related to "Labour Market Flexibility"
I've been searching in Google Scholar but I can't find anything solid and conclusive. By further looking at the OECD list on labour flexibility, I can't take any conclusive results either, because for example Venezuela and Germany appear on the top with the most protective labour laws.
Are there any meta-studies or conclusive research on this subject? Does labour flexibility promote economic growth? Is there any measurable elasticity between them?
It's kinda weird.
Shouldn't supply and demand be forcing wages up? It's not, all I'm seeing is more companies refusing to hire anyone and blame us.
No market adjustments happening. Strange.
Edit: So this blew up and it's Christmas so I've been spending time with my family and not commenting on reddit. PRIORITIES and that.
Everyone's feeling great about themselves atm because everyone's sticking it to their bosses and moving jobs and wages appear to be increasing etc etc, some people's bosses are hearing about it and stepping up, some bosses aren't all that bad anyway. I get all that. That's not the point of this post. I did not need the mechanics of the labour market explaining to me. I understand the mechanics.
This post is about your lived experience and your quality of life. So yeah, everyone's figuring out that you can get better pay and conditions by quitting your jobs and saying no to unreasonable expectations, go find another job. But then what if the next job is the same? I've just read a post on this sub about someone who had left an extremely toxic job where they were overworked and underappreciated, to move into another job where they were paid significantly better, had autonomy over their time and had time to spend with their friends and family. This was AFTER this particular individual had made the choice to reassess their priorities in life. Here is the post in question.
They moved jobs, found better pay and conditions. And then a difficult client came along and the company had a decision to make:
Tell the client they've taken too much time delivering what is necessary and the job cannot be done in time
Pressure the worker to give up their family time over Christmas to get the job done, and not miss out on the fee and the profit, ON TOP OF what the company is making from other clients, and profit that the person giving up their time to do the work will likely not see in any meaningful way.
The decision was clear. The decision makers don't want to consider you. That's the whole point.
And it's not JUST about jobs and work. How are you paying the rent while you're holding firm and refusing to take jobs with underwhelming pay and appalling conditions? Do you need anything done in the home you rent? Is it a great place to live? Is it decorated properly so it can be cleaned? Is it secure? Is it warm? Does it have enough space? You may

"We've seen the experiment of that in COVID, and in shutting down of our borders, and what impact that has on the labour market, which has been quite negligible."
Who are they trying to fool? The labour market has been hugely affected by a lack of cheap temporary workers and it has driven up wages for the first time in many years...
I'm 100% in support of the movement with workers turning the table on capitalism by quitting their employment to find better jobs. I just don't think big business, and the government will let the workers win this battle. I keep hearing experts warning that businesses will need to adapt. I think though that the game will ultimately be rigged in the favour of big business, as it has been for the last 40 years.
