"Jesus wept" is a phrase famous for being the shortest verse in the King James Version of the Bible. It is not the shortest in the original languages, however. In biblical greek, the verse takes up 33 letters, and roughly translates to "Jesus shed tears." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jes…

The appeal behind the King James version of the Bible

I would like something answered in regards to the King James Bible. What exactly is the appeal behind the King James version of the Bible? I was raised Catholic and I wasn't really aware some fundamentalist denominations followed just the King James version of the Bible. I see there are also King James Only adherents. Is it more of a translation thing or just passages written to fit certain doctrine?

In the New King James Bible…there’s a section titled, β€œThe Great Apostasy.” In this section you’ll find the verses in (1 Timothy 4:1-5)…
  • (1 Timothy 4:1-5) The Spirit clearly says that in latter times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

What makes the King James Bible so important

I have been seeing some discussion over this, and I wondered if the KJV is actually considered to be a particularly exemplary book in terms of phraseology or something, or is it considered so influential basically just because it was the first widespread translation of the Bible into English?

The significance of this question is in determining whether, when we discuss the KJV, we are discussing the influence of a particular translation and the editorial choices thereof, or are we discussing basically just the influence of the Bible period

Edit: take away:

What gets me in this thread is the revelation that English was actually never spoken like the King James. I actually spent my whole life to this point thinking English was once this super poetic beautiful language where everyone sounded like Shakespeare

Only Twenty-nine percent of King James Isaiah italics was altered in the Book of Mormon(brass plates) renderings of Isaiah in the Book of Mormon, why? interesting items that were not copied from the Bible, but fixed. Joseph Smith latter day translation.

Here is some great information on the Book of Mormon, I've got tons more on all of the scriptures.

Was Joseph Smith Smarter Than the Average Fourth Year Hebrew Student? Finding a Restoration-Significant Hebraism in Book of Mormon Isaiah
Paul Y. Hoskisson

Here are just a few quotes.

To produce a Hebraism hidden in the English text by inserting when, an otherwise unattested reading of this Isaiah verse, would seem like an impossible task for Joseph Smith, given that he had much less schooling than the average reader today. Yet that is exactly what he produced.

The resolution to the missing apodosis can be found in that venerable grammar of biblical Hebrew, Gesenius, as it is affectionately called. It was first published more than two hundred years ago in German and has been revised numerous times. The standard English edition first appeared in 1910 and is a revision of the 28th German edition.13 As a budding young prophet, Joseph Smith must have had Gesenius on the top of his must-read list if he were going to create a Hebraism. In any case, Β§112 contains a lengthy explanation of the grammatical structure of the Hebrew main clause, that is, the apodosis.

Here is a little more.

If Joseph had been even moderately educated for his day, he might have known that italicized words in the King James Old Testament Bible of his day were added to aid in the translation. The italicized words are not translations of any Hebrew words, but were important to help make the English text read like English. Therefore, he could have simply, without much thought, omitted in the Book of Mormon version the italicized words of the King James translation and thereby could have created a text that was more Hebraic than the King James. In fact only twenty-nine percent of King James Isaiah italics was altered in the Book of Mormon renderings of Isaiah in the Book of Mormon version,8 which indicates Joseph was not mindlessly changing italicized words in the text.

In fact, in the Isaiah sections of the Book of Mormon, besides omitting italicized words, β€œmany times the italics in the [King James Version] are replaced with other words.”9 Such is the case in the verse in question. Joseph’s dictated text omits the that in this verse and substitutes a different relative conjunction when in the place of the King James that: β€œAnd it shall come to pass in the last days, when the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be establish

The 1611 original king james bible.

I've recently purchased a copy of the 1611 king james bible, bound in leather and written in old english, the "u"s and "v"s are reversed, "rejoice" is spelt "rejoyce" as well as countless other alternative spellings as compared to modern English. I had always thought until last week that William Shakespeare has been commissioned to write the king james version, but no, it was written by 47 scholars commissioned by king James. This version of the bible was also one of the main texts that spread English throughout the world in it's own time. I must admit I find it easier to read the new king james version and it's my favorite version at this time. What's your favorite version of the bible?

Also, check out my new subreddit r/biblical, it's meant to post memes, images, videos or text of things that one might describe as "biblical". If you would describe it as biblical, it belongs on that subreddit.

God Bless

Makima activates her ability on the beach at 3:18:26, lining up with Lamentations 3:18:26 in the King James Bible.

18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord:

19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Thought this was interesting to post for anyone who didn't notice at first. (Plus the religous undertones in Chainsaw Man are pretty cool to notice)
