A list of puns related to "Great Bible"
that was the end of Noahβs arc
I read the Quran about 20 years ago and must have lost it over time. Congrats on being able to live your most authentic self without indoctrination!
Any thoughts about this particular Bible? From what I have researched it seems to get people engaged with the stories and the meaning behind them. I am also very interested in following the Bible in a year podcast and would like to be able to follow along with something in my hands.
I have tried and failed previously with other bibles to get into reading on a set schedule because I just couldnβt focus on 2 columns of black text page after page.
I have also looked at the Catholic youth Bible.
Also, as a side note, I am in some dire need of ccd. I have been baptized and had my first holy communion (1985) in a Byzantine church. Any ideas or leads I can pursue?
The argument is that since the Bible portrays the Israelites and the early Christians as sometimes weak and spiritually flawed then it must be true because who would write a fake book that portrays the person writing it like that?
Iβve heard of this argument and to me it seemed like bullshit but I canβt exactly articulate why itβs bullshit.
What counter arguments do you guys have?
Great metaphor I read in Proverbs about sexual temptations. Description is from my study Bible.
Proverbs 2:16-17 NLT
VERSE: Wisdom will save you from the immoral woman, from the seductive words of the promiscuous woman. She has abandoned her husband and ignores the covenant she made before God.
DESCRIPTION: An immoral or promiscuous woman is seductive or a prostitute. Two of the most difficult sins to resist are pride and sexual immortality. Both are seductive. Pride says, "I deserve it"; sexual desire says, "I need it." In combination, their appeal is deadly. In fact, says Solomon, only by relying on God's strength can we overcoming them. Pride appeals to the empty head; sexual enticement to the empty heart. By looking to God, we can fill our heads with his wisdom and our hearts with his love. Don't be fooled, remember what God says about who you are and what you were meant to be. Ask him for strength resist the temptations. ββ
This is not lite reading, but it is light reading, ha ha. The detailed evidences for the restoration go on and on. We don't want to forget, the one on one revelation the Lord promises us if we qualify for it(explained in scripture), but amazing physical evidences are also everywhere throughout the scriptures, and other related sources.
Josephβs lucky βGuessβ From the Book of Moses (About Enochβs Pal, Mahujah) Not lucky, but revelation!
"If Joseph Smith is simply drawing off of what he could learn from his KJV Bible, Mahijah should not exist in the Book of Moses (because it doesnβt exist in the Bible). And, technically, youβd expect Mahujah only to show up in the form expressed in the Bible: Mehujael.
And yet, the fact remains that both of the names Joseph uses in the Book of Moses are found in authentic biblical texts Joseph would have had no access to. Either Joseph was an unbelievably lucky fraud, or he was a prophet of God."
Bonus bit
Biblical text is not the only place we find the character Mahujah. He also makes an appearance in the pseudepigraphal Book of Giants in the form of Mahway or Mahaway. Again, Mahway may appear quite different from Mahujah, but they are both acceptable forms of the same Hebrew names. Not only does Mahujah show up in Book of Giants, but the role Mahujah plays in both stories (as one who questions Enoch) is also similar. This is a role not described in any biblical or apocryphal work available to Joseph Smith at the time. Book of Giants only strengthens Josephβs prophetic claims.https://thirdhour.org/blog/faith/script ... h-mahujah/
Enochβs Encounters with the Gibborim
The Book of Giants is a collection of fragments from an Enochic book discovered at Qumran. Though it is missing from the Ethiopic book of 1 Enoch1β and resembles little else in [Page 30]the Enoch tradition, material related to the Book of Giants is included in Talmudic and medieval Jewish literature, in descriptions of the Manichaean canon,2 in citations by hostile heresiologists, and in third and fourth century fragments from Turfan published by Henning in 1943.3 Later, several fragments of a related work were identified among the Qumran manuscripts.
...out of nowhere, appears Mahijah, the only named character besides Enoch himself in Joseph Smithβs story of Enoch: βAnd there came a man unto him, whose name was Mahija

I believe there's only one group with more power than the richest people and it is the religious. Don't get me wrong, they have plenty of money too, but what gives them the edge is a supernatural like force akin to that of foresight and eerily accurate predictions. It's like they have the playbook of life and already know what's going to happen, thus being able to maneuver themselves in anticipation to benefit from these unfoldings again and again.
HOW MANY CHURCHES TODAY DO YOU THINK WOULD FIT THIS DESCRIPTION?
Have any of you ever believed that the Catholic Church was Babylon the Great and that the Pope was either the Antichrist or the False Prophet or would make way for such beings when you were a Christian if you belonged to a church or denomination? If so, did you believe in such ideas and conspiracy theories? What do you think of them now that you got out of Christianity?
I encountered such interpretations of the Bible during my teenage years despite being a Catholic back then. I did believe there would be an Antichrist and a false prophecy as well as in other end times crap I read in the Bible, but I didn't believe in the anti-Catholic interpretations of such verses and passages. I didn't believe in such ideas, but I know one of my roommates who looked up such false beliefs and theories and ended up believing them. I almost fell for those theories when I was a nondenominational Christian between 2019 and 2021, after being nonreligious from 2016 to 2019. It's so shocking, saddening, and angering that someone I know is now is an evangelical Protestant who believes that the Pope will either be the antichrist or the false prophet and that the Catholic Church is Babylon the Great, and that there will be a one-world government where the Christian devil and the antichrist will be worshipped by almost everyone except Christians and anyone who converts to Christianity and stays that way. They also believe Catholicism is not true Christianity nor is it biblical, and that Catholics worship and pray to Mary, other dead saints, and angels. I also know some other Protestants who believe such ideas and delusions. It's so frustrating and it's even more frustrating that there's still a lot of Christians and other religious people in the world today, especially those who don't want any progress and don't support human and civil rights advances for women, LGBTQ+ people, secular people, etc. and have sometimes reversed human progress.
I don't know how to show evidence that refutes those failed prophecies of the Bible about the end of the world which I now know that the authors of the different books of the Bible that talk about the end of the world believed were in that period and expected a messiah to come within their lifetimes and the lifetimes of their contemporaries, who they were writing to. It's so shocking but that's one evidence Christianity is not true and is in fact a cult. I can't even use the Bible to get such non-Catholic Christians to think critically and anal

Is there any source for the worldbuilding of the setting? There are many details in the background that are given passing mention and which I would like to know more about. Like the Thespin and ANacreon religions, luminism, what other political players exist in the galaxy.
In addition to cultural details, I'd really like to know how non-jumpdrive FTL works. Because that's been confusing to me. Hugo mentions he's 70 but spent most of his life in cryopods as a merchant. But at the same time a non-jump "slow" ship makes the trip from Trantor in the galactic core to the Outer Reach (50.000 LY) in a few years without the crew going into suspension. A lifepod can apparently travel from Helicon to Synnax in 130 years.
Either they use a slow FTL engine that takes years to get anywhere, or there is a gate system setup across the galaxy and ships spend more time travelling between gates in the same system than between star systems
