Hi folks!
I've done some reading and wanted to get a critique of this itinerary. I'm 30 and will be traveling solo. I mostly want to see Medellin, Bogota, and surrounding areas (coffee region, Guatape, small towns). I'm interested in sightseeing in the big cities and enjoying the nightlife, and taking it easier in the smaller rural areas, potentially hiking a bit. I'll save Caratgena and the coast (Santa Marta/Minca/Tayrona/etc) for another trip.
I'd like to visit Bogota, Medllin, Jardin, and Salento, but I'm not very familiar with the coffee region, which are the best places to visit (e.g., Salento or...?), and the best way to do transportation to connect these.
I have 11 full days not including fly-in/fly-out days. I was thinking something like this:
0- arrive
1- Bogota
2- Bogota
3- Bogota fly to Pereira, go to Salento
4- Salento
5- Salento
6- Bus to Jardin,
7- Jardin, Bus to Medellin evening.
8- Medellin
9- Medellin
10- Medellin day trip to Guatape.
11- Medellin
12- Fly home
This gives 2 days Bogota, 2.5 days Salento, 1 day Jardin, 3 days Medellin, 1 day Guatape. Seems doable but looked crammed.
I'm curious which stops in coffee country I should prioritize? (one website suggested to consider visiting Salento, Valle Cocora, Pijao, Santa Rosa, Manizales, Pereira)
Should I do them as day trips from Salento as a home base or stay in a new town every night?
Should I bus to Jardin or is flying to Medellin and doing it as an overnight trip from there better? Is it even worth it with the schedule I have?
Thank you so much!
Introduction
Merry Christmas everybody. What better way to celebrate than with a perfume review?
Today's offering is from Le Jardin Retrouvé and, with full disclosure, this sample was provided by the company for review (for which I am much obliged). For even more transparency, however, I have bought previous sample sets from the company, as well as a full bottle of their fantastic Cuir de Russie, with my cold hard cash! This review (as with any review I undertake) is, therefore, done with a completely open mind.
I've detailed the history of Le Jardin Retrouvé in previous posts (see the links at the end of this review). To summarise, however, the house was created by master perfumer Yuri Gutsatz in 1975 and is considered to be the first niche company in the perfume world.
Gutsatz was already in his 60s when he founded Le Jardin Retrouvé (having had a long and storied career working for the top names in his younger days) and the company's fortunes declined after his passing in 2005. In 2016, however his son, Michel, decided to bring Le Jardin Retrouvé back with the help of his wife, Clara, an artist, and perfumer Maxence Moutte.
The interesting thing about Mousse Arashiyama is that, whilst the company's previous offerings have been loving rereleases of Gutsatz's original creations, this eau de parfum is a brand new creation by Moutte. It is also his debut perfume release having successfully launched the scent in candle form with Le Jardin last year. If, like I, you believe that perfumery is an artform, this is like listening to a debut album! Exciting.
Mousse Arashiyama
Le Jardin Retrouvé list the notes for Mousse Arashiyama as the following:
Organic Alcohol
No Dyes
No UV Filters
No Preservatives
Main Natural Ingredients: Lentisque absolute, Incense essence, Virginia Cedar essence, Oak Moss
Main Synthetic Ingredients: Calone (Marine, Iodized), Maceal (Green, powerful), Iso E Super: (Woody, amber, crystalline, violet, sweaty), Geosmin (Fresh, humid, earthy)
Before diving in to the review, can we just have a round of applause for the detail provided here? I love it when perfumers separate naturals and synthetics and give us an idea into how the perfume is made. It's incredibly informative.
Moving away from the science, here's what the narrative description of the perfume states:
*You walk in this forest as in a sacred place. Cradled by the softness of the moss, your steps obey an old instinct, a deep intuition. At the
... keep reading on reddit ➡I ADORE this one. The only issue is, it's very moderate silage and last only a couple of hours. Does anyone know anything that's similar in spirit but is eau de perfume?
I'm looking to rehome these samples somewhere they will be appreciated more. They smell high quality, just not my particular type of scent. I'm not great at judging so I'll shoot low and say they all have at least 2ml left (Bois Tabac is lowest so I took a picture). The samples are:
I've linked to the Fragrantica page for each. Please look it over. If (and only if!) they really jump out at you as something you'd potentially like to buy a bottle of, send me a message. Looking to get $0.10 plus shipping (PayPal F&F). If you happen to like one a lot I have a coupon for 24 euros off a purchase directly from Le Jardin Retrouve's website. It's a few months old, but I don't think it expires.
Thanks for all the incredible deals r/fragranceswap!
