Where I live, proof of vaccination or proof of negative PCR test is mandatory to dine in at restaurants. We also have to check peoples IDs to make sure the name on the vaccinate passport belongs to them. Easy enough right? Unsurprisingly, there is SOOOO much bullshit the hosts/hostesses have to deal with because of it, such as being yelled at, being called names or slurs, being physically threatened on a few occasions, people saying we’re “aligning [ourselves] with segregation” even tho we’re just following provincial law, etc etc. And yet despite all the horrible things people say and the awful way people treat us, I have one small nitpick that never fails to irk me:
People don’t know what a fucking ID is.
Customer: Why do you need to see my ID?
Me: I need to make sure the name and birthdate on the vaccine belongs to you.
C: Why?
M: Because for all I know this could be anyone’s vaccine passport.
C: I thought the passport was all I needed.
M: No, I legally need to see your ID.
C: shows me credit card
M: Nope, it needs to be a government issued ID.
C: shows Costco card
M: That’s also not an ID.
C: storms out

About the portable workstation:
Part of my occupation duties is to service the office computers, which usually entails troubleshooting on-premises (ie. in their office/cubicle), cloning or transferring drives, or network logistics. So, as a project, I ventured to build a fully portable desktop- not an AIO, where components like CPU and DGPU are soldered to the board, not a laptop, where processing power takes a backseat to portability, but a true desktop with an independent display. This computer is more than capable of any IT support task and casual gaming on mid settings.
The NZXT Vulcan PC case allows me to carry the whole rig around (it's probably 20lbs) , the built-in wifi means I can connect to the net from anywhere in the office, and having a single cable (for the PSU power) makes it versatile in any spot.
As seen in the pictures, it has a side-mounted monitor on a VESA mount clip, meaning you can remove it from the side of the PC case if you need to use it elsewhere or open the machine. The monitor is powered completely by the PC, and all the cables are wrapped inside. The minimum it needs is 1x USB and 1x HDMI to run, but I do 2x USB to ensure it has more than enough power.
I'll miss it dearly, as having the portable rig saved me from running back and forth to the IT bench so much to service drives and check progress.
I was planning on adding more docks from ICYDOCK so I can service more drives at once, but oh well.

The case is extremely rare, the build literally comes with a monitor, and the parts are primo- no inland or cheapo components. If you buy it locally, I'll add in a Razer Ornata Chroma mechanical membrane keyboard (used, but 100%) working and a SteelSeries Rival600 (used; I don't have the original cord, so it clicks a little weird, but it comes with the optional weights) or a 3rd party wireless keyboard/mouse combo.
Due to how complex this build was, I want to avoid parting out unless I really have no choice towards the end of the week...

His son was only suspended for a few months when he should have been expelled and never allowed back on campus.
I never had classes with this guy and I didn't know him personally, but I knew what he looked like and always steered clear. One day I noticed he was walking in front of me and he dropped his student ID card without noticing. Not sure if all universities are like this but our IDs also stored our meal plans and you could purchase credit to put on the card to buy snacks at the school bodega. Anyway, I picked up his ID and went straight to the dining hall. I used up his entire meal plan buying food for every student I saw (tbh there were only like 7 meals left but still). I used up all the credit he had on his ID card to buy food at the school bodega and gave it to classmates who couldn't afford meal plans. After I finished I cut his card in half and threw it in the trash.
I know that was probably petty af but it kinda felt really good considering all the fucked up shit he did to other people.
Clarification: My mind isn't creative enough to make this stuff up for those of you questioning. I went to a school in RI, we had one campus cafe that was student run which also provided meals, I just called it the dining hall in this post. The students who did notice the ID card did not object to me using the card and endorsed it. I've already graduated years ago, you can shit on me all you want but it's already been done... And truthfully I don't feel that bad about it. There were 7 meals and maybe less than $50 worth of credit which I doubt is much to this student. Also, I made one mistake in my post. After google searching again, student and his brother were BOTH caught for assaulting another man. Just edited that bit.

This is a short one for tonight....
Just had a guy come in, asking if we had rooms available, and being a slow Wednesday night, I tell him I do have rooms available. I quote him the rate and he's fine with it, so I begin the check-in process. I ask him for his ID and method of payment, which he hands to me. I check the name on the card against the name on the ID and see they don't match, so I tell him I can't accept the card. He tells me it's his company's card and the name on it is his boss. I once again tell him that I can't accept the card since the name doesn't match his ID. He then asks if it's an "Illinois thing." I tell him that it's our policy here, in an effort to prevent credit card fraud. I can tell he's getting upset, and then he pulls out the race card. "You're doing this because I'm black, right?" "No sir, it's our policy" I tell him again. He then wants to know if we have that in writing. "Actually sir, we do." We have a list of hotel policies posted at our front desk and numero uno on the list is name on card MUST match guest's ID (yes, 'must' is capitalized and in a larger, bold font). I point this out to him and he spits out "f*** you!!" and storms out.
Ahhhhh, the joys of shooting someone down. LOL!!

This is so nuts to me. So in case you haven't heard, cook county Illinois (Chicago and some nearby suburbs) now requires an ID and vaccine care to get into any restaurant, movie theater, gym, etc.
Here's why this is nuts to me
- Vaccinated people can still carry and spread Omicron (especially if you haven't had the 3rd shot) so the difference in spreading capability between vaccinated and unvaccinated isn't that much
- This is literally the lowest mortality rate we've ever had during the pandemic, so why are they whipping out these tight restrictions now?
- It hurts local businesses and puts the burden on them to check everyone's IDs and deal with disgruntled customers.
- This applies to everyone 16+, tons of 16, 17, even 18-year-olds don't have government-issued IDs yet for whatever reason (maybe they just haven't needed a non-driving ID and haven't finished drivers ed yet either, etc)
- The hypocrisy. There's all this fuss about voter ID laws and how difficult it is to get an ID and it would be discriminatory (in my personal opinion, make it easy and free to get an ID, require ID for voting, get the conservatives to stop crying election fraud. easy solution.) but suddenly everyone is expected to carry their ID at all times if they want to spend 10 minutes in a subway to get a sandwich. Is it hard to get an ID or not?

Many other universities are starting to allow a virtual student ID card on smartphone with NFC functionality. With RPI's technical background, it shouldn't be too hard to accomplish this. Digital cards have many benefits, including ease of use and better security.
