A list of puns related to "Horror Genre"
For me personally, it is body horror. Iβve always had a relatively strong stomach for blood and gore, but something about the body being unwillingly manipulated and contorted in grotesque ways really makes me nauseous. I physically cannot watch movies such as The Fly or Tusk.
I'm not sure if anyone's noticed them but honestly, there have been like 5-10 of them published over a period of time just north of a year. They all have the same aesthetics and almost the same gameplay elements yet there are like 3-4 separate developers pumping them out with one particular developer as the seeming pioneer of the genre.
Who and what you may ask? Here is the list of games I noticed in like the last month tops,
They all share this really cohesive aestethetics and narrative.
They all seem to be set in the 80's, they all have these dirty-distorted visuals. They all make available some version of crt or vhs screen effects to reinforce the dirtiness. They're all short experiences with anecdotal plots featuring creepy encounters with creepy people, with an overarching similar narrative you'd find in r/nosleep or r/LetsNotMeet stories.
I don't even know what exactly i'm ranting on cause i've really gotten to like these games. They are cool, entertaining and sometimes real fn scary and they're a refreshing new kind of subgenre but they also feel so out of nowhere or sudden, like there hasn't been any successful mainstream releases in the genre so far to warrant this kinda interest from developers so what is motivating these games? There are a lot of new games these group of developers are looking to publish in 2022 and so on so it must be profitable enough or they must be doing it just for the personal satisfaction. i've never seen them get talked about much other than some niche horror game communities or gaming channels either so what is going on here?
I really enjoyed this film. Now yes it takes obvious inspiration from Alien and The Descent, but I found the setting, the casting and the claustrophobic nature of the movie to be really enjoyable, even given its shortcomings like showing the monster a bit too early. I thought the final act was great with a really rewarding reveal. I wish more horror movies would explore a pure monster flick like this and couple it with imaginative use of setting to add to the horror as opposed to just being a stage for the horror. Itβs helps that Kristen Stewart played her role well, and the special effects were what you needed for a movie like this.
I was recently listening to Misery by Stephen King and it had some extremely tense parts however I was pulled out of the moment a little bit by knowing that in such a setup even Stephen King couldnβt kill off the protagonist or antagonist until the end of the book so you already knew the resolution of a scene to a certain extent.
However if I hadnβt known the time remaining and given it is a reasonably sizeable book then I think I would have been even more on the edge of my seat for any of those moments thinking the end could come at any minute.
Which other books do you reckon would also benefit from not knowing where you are in the story?
Slashers not your thing? Did the Conjuring series burn you out on paranormal? What are some genres that feel like more of a chore to get through for you?
My 13yo son loves spooky movies but I don't want to show him anything too intense yet. We love M Night Shyamalan films and are going to watch the Ring next. We binged all of Are You Afraid of the Dark and Twilight Zone as well! So any good television shows are also welcomed.
Any other recommendations for good PG13 horror and suspense?
Thanks!
I get that it helps the plot and kill count, but I canβt help but get a little flustered now whenever it happens and almost see it as an easy out for writing. Especially when itβs a universe thatβs well fleshed-out and we know a lot of the paranormal details, why not just say βthis demon loves to lock doors, beware!β Or is that just too on the nose, lol?
You know, we got body horror, psychological horror, slasher horror, supernatural horror, found footage horror, etc.
I particularly like animal horror (not sure if that's the right term), like Jaws or The Birds. But especially when it involves a swarm of insects, like Arachnophobia (the 1990 movie).
so here are some of my all time favorite movies a little bit of why for a few :
TAXI DRIVER (existential crisis)
JOKER
TETSUO THE IRON MAN (obscureish weird horror, body horror)
PANS LABRYINTH
Blood in blood out
The first SAW
The descent
What genre/concept would you like the horror industry to take on?
Questions in the title, curious to see everyoneβs responses ππ. Iβd love to see a found footage lost at sea sort of gig, Open water (2003? I think) was the only real βseaβ themed horror movie. Hbu?
For example, My favorite niche in horror is anytime it's in a creepy hotel/resort, or boarding school. Something isolated to one location. Snowier the better.
So I have being looking for anime who include elements from the title. Oh also, are there any animes where the main character is chubby? I can't seem to find any...
Edit: Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions!
We all know that the horror genre itself is meant to create strong emotion; either in fear, disgust, etc. To do this, they tow the line and potentially cross it at times.
But where is that line for you? Something to do with kids? Babies? Too much gore?
It's surprisingly hard to find a well written zombie book or just pandemic book in general. I loved World War Z, currently reading Feed. Thanks!
Preferably not part of huge series or even if they are, can be read as stand alones.
Iβm looking for a good horror film that quite a big fan of the genre may not have seen before. Weβve looked through the Dreadit top 100 movies and still have come out empty handed as my friend has seen all of them. Iβd appreciate some more obscure or underrated films that he may not have seen before. Thank you
Hey guys! First post here. I'm trying to get into horror and I gotta say, I love that this genre has its own subreddit here on this site!
As some kind of NY Resolution I chose to read at least 40 books this year. I'm currently reading Madame Bovary (which I am loving by the way) but I've been getting into this spooky mood with some films and the like. I'd like to step into the genre!
Let's start with a description of my tastes. When it comes to literary fiction, I like "magical" style, something dreamy, and the subject matter of my favourite books is mostly about something existentialist, about otherness, originality, losing/gaining sense of self, finding the meaning of your own existence (not the meaning of life - that's different!) and so on.
But when it comes to horror, I like a variety of things. I like folk horror, The Wicker Man is one of my favourite films. I also like typical gothic fashioned stuff, such as Black Sunday (the Bava film), The Haunting (I might read the Shirley Jackson book too!). I'd also happily read something connected to trauma, maybe something related to queer/LGBT communities. I'm interested in body horror, occult horror, cosmic horror... anything goes basically but I don't want it to be another typical horror lit, I want it to be unique!
Some of my favourite horror films (if you want to tailor your recs by my taste in film):
Some of the books I want to check out:
I'd love to hear some recommendations from you!
In a genre dominated by straight(if they arenβt asexual) white male horror villains like Freddy, Jason, Michael, and Chucky himself, Tiffany stands out as a bisexual half Asian female horror villain.
If a horror franchise does feature a female villain, they are usually just pawns of the main villain and usually get killed off in one or two installments. Tiffany on the other hand is on an equal footing to Chucky being his partner rather than a minion and is one of the series most prominent characters to the point sheβs the most recognizable after Chucky. The tv show even reveals she was responsible for the creation of the main villain(she didnβt make Chucky into a serial killer but she is the reason heβs a killer doll since she ratted him out to Mike Norris) and gave him his go-to nickname βChucky.β
The number of Asian characters(who aren't fodder for the slasher to kill) in the horror genre can be counted on one hand so Tiffany is a breath of fresh air. With the tv show recently revealing sheβs bisexual, this makes her arguably one of the most high-profile LGBT characters in the horror genre.
I know these movies are all very different but you get the idea. Everything starts tranquil and maybe wholesome and slowly something else turns out.
Edit: Typo, should be Midsommar.
My girlfriend and I like some horror movies and hated others. I understand that horror is a huge genre that encompasses many sub-genres.
I was hoping someone could help me get started. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the movies "The Boy" and we even liked "The Boy 2".
What genre is this movie? We would love to find more movies that have this feel.
The holiday season has grabbed me by the back of my neck and is forcing me to be all sentimental. And I saw this subreddit and thought I'd love nothing more than to hear everyone's first experience with the horror gaming genre. I'll share mine as well!

I personally feel itβs more similar to films about demonic possession and I constantly see people lump it in with zombie movies, which, ngl, kind of bugs me. Your thoughts?
Hello there, I'm Korosenai, I'm a horror/surrealism artist and writer. I've never quite met anyone who loves creating artwork in this genre, and I feel like it's slowly dying. If you'd like to try to connect with other horror artists, DM me (on any social) and I'll create a horror artist server or group. We can discuss technique, share art, and give constructive feedback to each other.
I have the The Thing on right now, and of course itβs the original β82 version and not the 2011 remake, and I love this movie so dang much/feel itβs one of the best horror movies out there. The question came to mind about which horror movie would I recommend to someone who generally doesnβt watch horror and Iβm curious what everyoneβs pick would be. No format or criteria, just a good ol whatβs the best horror movie that if someone had to watch one, this is the one they need to see.
Happy spooky season!
I had stopped at the liquor store; it is dark, foggy, and drizzling. I stepped right in a shallow puddle, noticed the neon open sign flashing red light rhythmically through the fog, and looked over at the old 1780s church that sits there, boarded up. I live in a rural area; lots of cow fields, people selling eggs from bins at the end of their driveways. This is my neighborhood and home, but it struck me it would also be perfect stop off for Michael Myers on his way back to Haddonfield, or for some well-meaning kids to bury an accidentally killed pet to satanic consequences.
Or maybe I just watched Midnight Mass too recently. What horror movie tropes does your backyard evoke?
Out of all the different types of horror films I've seen over the years, nothing quite gets me going like a good old-fashioned slasher film. Some would give me chills, while others would have me busting a gut laughing in delight. Some of the most well known got me into the sub-genre featuring slasher villains like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Chucky, and the chainsaw wielding nightmare Leatherface. Then, as time has gone by, I've come to love films from outside these characters and their respective franchises. The following list is a list of my favorite slasher films from outside the big name franchises, but what are yours (they can be from the big name franchises and the lesser known gems)?
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Black Christmas (1974)
Dr. Giggles (1992)
Blood Harvest (1987)
My Bloody Valentine (1981)
I really need help with this because its been driving me crazy for years! I need to finally know so I can have peace.. I haven't since this movie since the mid 90's. I only remember few things, the main theme is red high heel shoes.. Photos of model being spread over a lawn while a guy is mowing the grass comes across dead women wearing red heels, closer to the end of the movie one of the antagonists, pretends he died but he used a fake blade that has a button that squirts fake blood.. the movie more then like is from the 80's possibly European or American I'm not sure.. I think it might be slasher? i am not sure I remember vague things. I would love for this to stop hunting me and to get the title and watch it and be at peace!
im an avid reader of romance. however, i feel they're repetitive and im looking to explore a new genre.
i used to read and LOVE Goosebumps by R.L. Stine as a kid. Are there any books like that for adults?
thank you!
