A list of puns related to "Bram Stoker"
I think we all owe Keanu Reeves an apology for shitting on his Jonathan Harker performance in Francis Ford Coppolaβs Bram Stokerβs Dracula. I never understood the hate. And the hate comes from people I respect (Iβm lookin at you RLM). Like I get it, but I meanβ¦ Look Keanu once said about the increased criticism of his performance, βI donβt know, I think I play in it. Itβs a wacky movie.β It IS a wacky movie. And cβmon he does play. Thereβve been bigger train wrecks. I always thought Keanu held us own (as in didnβt get in the way) against some of the greatest actors of our all time, Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins. What more did we want from that role. Heβs too wooden? (Itβs a fantastical period drama, amiright?) His accent doesnβt work (neither did Al Pacinoβs in Scarface, amiright?) I think the role of Harker is a thankless role, really. And Keanuβs sort of stiff manner and surfer resonance feels perfectly at home in this brilliant and bizarre masterpiece. His freaking out over witnessing Draculaβs three βvampire bridesβ feasting on baby infant is the stuff of nightmares. Reeveβs got a bum rap. Shame on us. We should take it back.
I'm working on Dracula's Castle, it's basically vampire Fallout Shelter but with an overworld where you can choose to engage in minigames (a bit like Sid Meier's Pirates) and a quest system that follows the early book but also branches out into other parts of Romanian myth like the Scholomance etc...
At this stage the combat follows the Ogre Battle (SNES) template but I might add an option for a more involved tactical style as well.
I've been working on it since early 2019 and hope to release it next year. Ideally I'll have a playable demo out before June. I might try Early Access if there's enough interest in it. It's a real passion project and I'm super keen to start getting feedback on it.

Same as the Godzilla series in Ikoria, WotC is using boxtoppers to include Dracula Series foils. Identical to the godzilla cards but using characters and setting from Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Seems like an unlikely spot to reprint C17 Edgar Markov so there we go.

What up? Given that spooky season is on the way I just wanted to get something off my chest.
I really hate the way a lot of modern gothic horror retellings of Dracula try to turn him into a tragic and brooding romantic figure. I don't like it for a variety of reasons and I especially do not like it when the object of romantic affection is the character Mina Harker.
Here's the thing, to those who read the book... Dracula is anything but sexy. First and foremost book Dracula is ugly like he is an ugly creepy old man who disturbs everyone on sight alone. Now later on he does get younger but he never gets pretty. He's always consistantly described as ugly and evil.
And that's the core thing there, evil. Dracula is not a sympathetic or tragic figure at all in the book. He is a remorseless murderer and rapist who delights in the slaughter of innocents and using hypnosis on women to make them easier prey. Think less charming sophisticated bad guy and more Bill Cosby, or Harvey Weinstein.
Hell he feeds a live baby to his 'brides' in one scene. Out of all the gothic monsters from old literature Dracula has to be the least morally complicated, he is an evil walking plague that wants to kill and feed as much as possible and has decided to move to England to turn the city of London into his new hunting ground.
The only reason he even goes after the main characters in the first place is purely because they keep getting in his way. His actions are motivated solely by cruelty and he kills (and violates) countless innocent people. It still floors me that the depiction of Dracula most people are aware of is the one from movies, someone read a story about a supernatural predator who uses hypnosis to put women into a trance so he can violate their bodies while they are unconscious and said to themselves "this guy right here, this should be a tragic romantic lead!"
So yes all in all #canceldracula
Now I know y
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm really feeling Halloween this year, all the right decor, games, music and food. And of course, movie nights! I loved not only the movie itself and its distinct style but I honestly just love the theme and horror "subgenre" I guess you could call it? It really hits the nail on the head. Any other movies that have this same sort of feel to it? If not, what else just perfectly spells out Halloween for you?
I saw her for the first time in Dracula kissing Keanu. Than I watched matrix reloaded. She funnily enough kisses Keanu Reeves again after Dracula in matrix reloaded Do u feel this was the wachowskis being meta about them being in Bram Stokers Dracula together?
I know there is a third T4 taskmaster but I haven't found his name yet.
There are two distinct views on this one. 1. Modern horror film buffs will be bored to tears by it. 2. Those who love the old Vincent price films but would like to watch something new ( produced and filmed in a public broadcasting sort of way ) might enjoy it, be warned - not only is it slow paced but the actual filming/editing is... Inexperienced at best, hard to gauge the acting with all of the portrait framed but actor not looking directly into the camera scenes. I hope this was all because of COVID 19 restrictions. Otherwise I can't recommend it at all.
Can be watched for free on Vudu.
I just wanted to ask... do you guys think that he's just a normal ability user or his nature is more similar to that of Lovecraft? I can't stop thinking about it... maybe in the manga it was already explained, in that case I just missed it...
I've been enjoying reading Classic Short Horror stories and as I come across those that have left a lasting impression will mention them here. I recently read Bram Stoker's novels Dracula, The Jewel of Seven Stars and Lair of the White Worm. Shocking for their day, these novels, though entertaining, seem pretty tame by today's Horror standards. But, in reading some of Bram Stoker's short stories I came across The Dualists. It was first published in the UK in November 1886 in the 1887 issue of The Theatre Annual: Containing Stories, Reminiscences and Verses, Carson & Comerford, London, edited by Clement Scott. Although the date on the front cover and publication page of this annual is 1887 it was actually published and released in the third quarter of 1886 in anticipation of Christmas and New Year sales.
This story told in flowery prose with an almost tongue-in-cheek narrative had me fooled at the first. What follows is a literary slide into gruesome psychopathic behavior that is still as stomach-churning today as anything modern Horror writers produce.
"Harry and Tommy had each been given as a Christmas box a new knife; and for a long time--nearly a year--these knives, similar in size and pattern, were their chief delights. With them they cut and hacked in their respective homes all things which would not be likely to be noticed; for the young gentlemen were wary and had no wish that their moments of pleasure should be atoned for by moments of pain."
Hello fellow readers and spooky book fans!
Spooky season is almost upon us (or is upon us for some of us who start the celebration early lol) and that means itβs time for loads of spooky literature. I couldnβt let another Halloween pass without reading Dracula and since itβs a classic I figured reading it with a group would be fun and ensure I stuck with to the end. Besides, spooky is always better with friends!
So brought to you by popular nomination (nominated for both reads this month) and my determination to finally read this classic vampire novel, u/espiller1 and I will be hosting an Evergreen Read of Dracula during the month of October. Whether youβre reading for the first time or itβs your yearly spooky tradition, youβre invited to drop in and read along with us.

Bram Stokerβs terrifying novel, widely viewed as the unparalleled exemplification of Gothic horror, permanently establishing its iconic characters as archetypes in the long span of literary history
During a business visit to Count Dracula's castle in Transylvania, a young English solicitor finds himself at the center of a series of horrifying incidents. Jonathan Harker is attacked by three phantom women, observes the Count's transformation from human to bat form, and discovers puncture wounds on his own neck that seem to have been made by teeth.
Harker returns home upon his escape from Dracula's grim fortress, but a friend's strange malady β involving sleepwalking, inexplicable blood loss, and mysterious throat wounds β initiates a frantic vampire hunt.
The popularity of Bram Stoker's 1897 horror romance is as deathless as any vampire. Its supernatural appeal has spawned a host of film and stage adaptations, and more than a century after its initial publication, it continues to hold readers spellbound.

The Schedule and Marginalia will follow closer to the end of the month.
Just a reminder, Dracula is a Gutenberg eligible book which means itβs available in many places online to read for free if you donβt already own a copy.
Hope to see everyone in the discussions!
