Every few months I see a slew of “[insert famous person] receive their honorary doctorate from [insert school]! Congratulations!!” posts.
My first thought is always “wow, how did they have time to get such a high-level degree while maintaining a successful career?” Inevitably, one of the comments will always say how it’s honorary degree, and then everyone jumps on them calling them a hater. I don’t think that this makes you a hater, I think it’s good to distinguish between honorary and earn degrees as a way of showing respect to those that invested 10 years of hard work (give or take) into their education.
I know that a lot of these celebrities are giants in their fields and may have change the way that things are done in their industry and I’m not trying to take that away, but I don’t think that it’s the same.
