Hey guys, I have pretty wide feet and I'm looking for a new skate. Length is about 277mm, toebox around 105mm. I have this part on the outside of my foot which is like a sixth toe, and it makes my feet wider in the middle than my toebox [110mm in middle]. So I was wondering, what skates would you recommend for a wide footed bloke? I've been looking at the Razors SL Henderson 2's in a 43. They have a mondopoint of 275mm, insole length of 280mm, and a shell width of 102mm. That's 3mm less than my toebox and 7mm less than my sixth toe - is it likely to cause me trouble?

My Beta SV has a 1cm tear on the left, upper arm area. Probaby got caught on an ice screw in my pack, the cut is too clean. What are people’s experience repairing their shells? I ordered a Gear Aid Gore-Tex fabric patch. Is this a robust solution? I at least want to finish the ice climbing season with this thing. And the Arc warranty page says they’ll only work on things covered by the Limited Warranty.

I have difficulties choosing between these two jackets. I recently moved into the french alps and am in need of a good allround hardshell. I'll use it for hiking, skiing, climbing and moutaineering.

The Arc'teryx is much lighter and very packable, I like the fit and the quality. A lot of people seem to regard Arc'teryx as the best when it comes to hardshells, but most people don't even seem to use them for outdoor activities.

I feel like the Arc'teryx is the better product, but I prefer Patagonia's business practices when it comes to fairtade, sustainability, warranty. Something Arc'teryx absolutely neglects, which doesn't sit that well with me given the premium price. I doubt that Patagonia are saints, but I do believe in voting with my money.

Since I'm no expert on this, maybe some of you guys can weigh in on this

Im looking for a Hardshell case for my coronet thats coming soon but I don't know the interior dimensions or style of case I should be looking for... Any good suggestions? Im thinking it might fit in an SG case but idk

I made a ~5 cm cut on my hardshell pants with the crampons, how can I close it to keep the impermeability and stop the cut from getting bigger?

I've been using my Beta SV for a while now and I feel it's a little too overkill for my usage. I use it as an all around 3 season shell for skiing (resort/backcountry), climbing/ice climbing and general winter use but I'm starting to realise that 90% of the time, I don't really need a goretex shell and when I do it's never too the point of truly needing a high abrasion resistance shell

My questions are how viable is a Beta FL for the activities I do? How much more breathable is it and how much to I lose in terms of durability/waterproofing? How necessary are lit zips? And finally, would it be appropriate to use it during summer under heavy rain?

Hey y'all. Looking for what's in the title. For hi-capa mags I'd prefer (2 mags btw) AW custom mags as ive got an AW hicapa. For a hicapa holster I'm looking for a relatively basic one for preferable molle but a belt loop would be ok. Also for the Scorpion Evo mags either color is ok as long as they feed good but id prefer black. I’m planning on climbing Mt Rainier sometime in June with my brother. I’ve been doing tons of research and most people say don’t do hardshell pants. My brother is insisting they are needed though. The only reasons I see the need for hardshell is kneeling, sitting to rest, and glissading. Future plans are Mt Elias and possibly Denali. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this will be my first time so want to make sure I’m prepared and don’t get wet lol

I’m having some end of life celebration (an oxymoron?) proxy cards done for my family and I’ve been struggling to determine which slabs are best for long term protection. The main goal is they keep them safe for my wife and daughters in a memory box.

The cards are real MTG cards with foil peels and alters on front done by a good Etsy seller, so thickness should be comparable to the newest Signature Foils. Ideally, UV and water resistant. It looked like BCW and UltraPro had some decent options, but I wasn’t sure if screw or magnet was better and wanted to get some input before I ordered something that sucked. Normally I’d try to just Googlefu this, but the medications they’ve got me on basically wipe me out and I’m struggling to get it done solo.

I play a Les Paul that came with a pretty neat and high quality hard case. Loved it at first but its been getting real cumbersome lately so I thought about switching to a gig bag. Thing is, Im having difficulties finding one I deem to be able to protect my guitar enough, since thats whats really most important to me; Keeping my guitar safe.

So what are your experiences, gig bag vs. hard case? Can you recommend a gig bag with thick padding (thats available in central Europe)?

I live in Golden BC so it gets fairly cold. I need a outershell. I pretty much got to the rest of my layers but the hardshell. What would be good for downhill skiing and xc skiing hybrid jacket? I also wouldn't mind bringing my jacket along in my bag during summer hikes as well. Any recommendations?

Just what the title says, I’m looking for a decent hardshell, helmet and harness compatible for alpine use. I don’t have $600 to buy a super high end goretex as much as I want to. Any recs? So far I’ve seen the BD Liquid point, mammut kento hs, and marmot knife edge as possible choices. Any thoughts on those are appreciated.

I own a Mac Air and I'm considering getting the Incase hardshell on Apples website. However I'm a CS student and my laptop may get quite hot at times. Would the hard shell block any air flow/heat dissipation happening?

I recently bought an m1 MacBook Air. I want to protect it and keep it in good condition. Should I use a hardshell case like this one: https://store.apple.com/xc/product/HPA02ZM/A or a dbrand skin, or should I just put nothing on the computer and buy a leather sleeve to put it in? Also I’ve heard that a hardshell case can cause damage to the hinge, is this something to be worried about or no?

I did some searching and, while some threads (like this one) discuss parts of my question, none seem to address the whole thing.

Basically, traditional hardshells (GoreTex and friends) are very waterproof but only minimally breathable, leading to sweat buildup from inside the jacket during exertion. Softshells span a wide range but what they have in common is that they sacrifice full waterproofness for much better breathability. But there's a class of air permeable hardshells, such as eVent, Neoshell, Ascentshell, Futurelight, etc, which claim to be much more breathable while still waterproof (maybe not quite as much as the GoreText hardshells). How do these fit into people's layering systems? Legitimate replacement for either a softshell or a hardshell? Replacement for both? Middle piece and it's good to own all three? Niche item that doesn't serve much purpose? Also, I'm kind of curious how some of the more protective softshells (possibly with a membrane like Infinium) compare to the less protective, air permeable hardshells.

For me specifically, I live in the PNW where it's often warm and wet. Previously I've mostly toured in the spring with fair weather and worn a light softshell for that. But I'd like to tour more this year, and expect to be getting out more midwinter when the weather is wilder. That softshell is definitely on the very breathable but not super weather-resistant end of the spectrum. I also own a GoreTex (vanilla, not pro or active or any special version) hardshell I use for resort skiing. I figure I have a few options:

1. Suck it up and just wear the hardshell if there's precip in the forecast. Downside is sweatiness and heat on the skin up.
2. Bring both softshell and hardshell and only wear the latter when the softshell gets overwhelmed. Unfortunately, my hardshell wasn't really designed (or purchased) with touring in mind. It's one of the heaviest I've seen and doesn't pack down particularly small either. So it would be annoying if it mostly stayed in my pack. I think this would make the most sense if I expected to wear the hardshell most of the time (that sort of begs the question about why I'm taking the softshell at all though).
3. Same as the above, but bring a basic rain shell instead of my skiing hardshell. I figure that's smaller and lighter in the pack if I'm not wearing it, but less breathable, less durable, and just generally worse

So I need a new jacket, my heavy jacket is not responding to DWR treatment anymore, and my light weight jacket is falling apart.

So many options and new techs in the last few years, so I made a spreadsheet, worked out as many breathability and waterproof ratings, weights, price etc. The jacket that comes to the top is the Odin Minimalist Infinity which if their tech is as good as they say (hah) then it should be a killer jacket. But there is one glaring problem, NO POCKETS, but is that a problem? I'm in the PNW, and it's cascade hills for me, so yes I'll be in the rain.. but layering, so layers should have pockets... Anyway it's a funny thing. Good way to cut weight I guess, and less seams.

Give me your feedback, or tell me what I should get that's under about $300 and not black.

*TMI - I'm a sweaty guy so I'm looking for fairly high breathability, so I've been ruling out paclite and H2No since they seem to only have breathability in the 10K range.

I have some questions about the different series of jackets being offered by RVRC.

There is the Whisper Jacket, Cyclone Rescue Jacket 2.0 and the Silence Proshell Jacket which look quite similar. Maybe you can help me decide which one to buy.

My goal is to find a jacket that is as waterproof as possible without feeling like a sheet of plastic and having to sweat like an animal when wearing it. Also it should be very durable so it will not be destroyed by tiny scratches (e.g. from rock or the woods).

I saw one guy in "7 vs. wild" wearing the Cyclone Rescue 2.0 and it looked quite durable. What is the big difference of this model compared to the Whisper model and where does the difference in the pricing come from?

I've been trying to find a hardshell pant for close to 2 years now, but I never seem to be able to get the over my thighs, even in just a baselayer. I'm starting to lose hope. Any recommendations?

I'm a brand new skiier and I plan on skiing my local resort a bunch this season. I have a lightweight (8.5 oz) and very expensive mountain hardwear goretex jacket that I bought for backpacking. Am I going to destroy this jacket as a noob that will likely be falling a lot?

I've been considering a roof top tent for over two years now and the usual things are on my mind.

1. Price (shipping!)
2. Weight (200lbs tent what is it made of steel?)
3. Storage ability (sleeping pads, pillows, etc).
4. Gas mileage afterwards

In a perfect world, I'd have unlimited money and a roof with unlimited weight capacity.

I don't know if any of you have checked lately, but there are a lot of knockoff hardshell roof top tents on ebay (brand new) for around $2k + free shipping, where the same style from name brand (roofnest etc.) Go for $3k + shipping.

For $1300+ in savings I'm hard pressed to believe these knock off tents are really that much worse in quality that wouldn't justify the price difference. I guess warranty might be a difference but I could theoretically buy an entire soft shell tent for the savings anyways.

Has anyone heard anything about these tents or used one?

The only thing keeping me from really committing would be weight. The styles available typically are 150+lbs without anything in it which is much higher than I want.
