Hadrian Puns

As the title indicates, I’ve only recently found a love for “roll and write” type games, with That’s pretty clever and cartographers but was wondering if there are any other hidden gems that are slightly deeper that things like Qwixx.

I’ve found it surprisingly tricky to search on BGG (aside from an out of date geek list or two), so coming here for any advice - hopefully there are some options that are still in print!

Nova Navy was formed nearly three years ago in response to the purge of January 3305, when supporters of Hadrian Duval were publicly executed and their families arrested across the Empire.

Our goal was to protect Nova Imperium from further attacks and influence the outcome of the storyline. When the Federation invaded with the goal of executing Hadrian, we achieved the first ever Imperial war CG victory over them, defending our home and being acknowledged on GalNet by the developers. And this is simply the crowning achievement out of a long history that has seen Nova Imperium rise above the tragedies and oppression of the past.

We're not done yet.

Hello happy hikers!

I’m planning on walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall, starting in Bowness-On-Selway and ending in Wallsend.

I plan on doing it over 3 days to raise money for charity. I’m an experienced hiker so I believe this is achievable (I’ve walked 40+ miles in a day before over rugged terrain).

As I’ve never walked the wall before I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips or info?

If anyone knows campsites or accommodation at around a 3rd and two 3rds of the way to keep in line with my timing at the end of each day, that would be great!

The Altercatio Hadriani Augusti et Epicteti Philosophi is an anonymous treatise composed in the 2nd or 3rd century. It contains 65 questions supposedly posed by Hadrian and answered by the Stoic philosopher Epictetus. It is a Latin text, and survives in many medieval manuscripts with many variations. This English translation appeared in The Knickerbocker (a literary magazine) in August 1857.

Most of this text seems a bit bizarre but I thought this was quite funny in a Stoic sense:

I try to play the scenario in my mind like an extremely long wall that’s barren with exception of a couple lads just kind of sauntering up and down the battlements praying no savage, blood-thirsty barbarians come-a-climbing.

What would it have been like in reality, so close to the last time there was a manned presence (I basically read this to be around the year 410). I imagine these dudes hadn’t been “paid” in years, by this point.

But the balls and loyalty they must have had. Incredible.

Why Hadrian? Is that necessary? If we're working on the premise that Harry is short affectionate nickname, then why Hadrian? Why not some thing more sensational? Like Harambe?
