A list of puns related to "Grand Duchy"
The Grand Duchy of Maryland was formed on 16 April, 1787. Maryland and Virginia were loyalist strongholds in the Revolutionary War, and when the war ended later in 1785, the entire south, who was ITTL very loyal, angry. Maryland and the south wanted monarchies, and before a constitutional convention, Maryland, and the southern states began to rebel. The British decided to strike on the United States of New England, and they annexed the remaining areas of The US. Carolina and Georgia requested to become monarchical puppets, or dominions, of Britain, although Virginia and Maryland opted for their own monarchies. The House of Calvert was proclaimed, and Frederick Calvert was declared His Grace, the Count of the County of Maryland. After the War of Southern Secession, Maryland got its claimed land, and the United States were dissolved and partitioned by the UK. In the following years, Maryland began to develop, and the area around the capital of Baltimore began to grow and develop. Although slower than Virginia, Maryland began to grow rich, although keeping with its conservative values. Maryland and Virginia became very good friends and throughout history, Maryland was neutral. Maryland began to experience a major influx of Italian migrants, and Italian culture began to integrate itself into the national culture. All national messages and broadcasts and sent out in both English and Italian. Maryland although, its neutrality, were heavily allied Italy and England and helped them throughout history. Currently, the largest city is Baltimore, although Somerset, Bedford, Breezewood, and Countess Giuliana are closely behind. Currently, the sovereign is Thomas VII, or Thomas the Fair of Bedford. In 1871, the House of Burgesses passed a major act which declared Maryland as a Grand Duchy, and not a County, anymore. Along with Virginia, Maryland is a very rich country, with castles, chateaus, resorts, less regulations, conservative values, and a prosperous economy. Currently, Maryland is of a multi party system, with the major parties being: Conservative (in power), Maryland Evangelical Union (opposition), Traditionalism, Libertarian Party, and the Liberal Party. Maryland, along with Virginia is very isolationist and has conservative and decentralization policies. Maryland and Virginia also uses the metric system, British English, drives on the left, and follows British customs. The capital building is called Cardinalsgrove Palace's style is Perpendicular Gothic Reviva
... keep reading on reddit β‘Just thinking that maybe the first focus for Tuscany should be to choose a Grand Duke: either the Habsburg claimant or Armando deβ Medici, Prince of Ottaiano. Kinda like how Adriano Visconti ends up as Duke of Lombardy rather than some Habsburg.
It wouldnβt have any further effect on the Tuscan tree that I can think of (unless the Second/Industrial Renaissance trees were tied to your choice of Grand Duke which I donβt see why it would be) I just think that if Tuscany did come to exist in the 20th century, they might see fit to choose the legitimate Grand Duke rather than the descendants of the guy who cut in the line of succession in 1737.
Governor-General Bobrikov was assassinated by an activist, but all sides more or less agreed that Bobrikov went too far with his temporary dictatorship.
What would his predecessors and successors have thought about being posted in the Grand Duchy?
What would lower ranked officials thought about being sent to Finland?
Did these sentiments change from the beginning to the end?
P.S. I'm able to read Finnish as well, so any sources or tidbits in it are welcome.
So people know it have any opinion on whether you might be able to play as Finland from the start. In Vic2 you have to play as Sweden and renounce the cores then tag Russia and play as Finland by releasing but I hope you can play as the autonomous grand duchy as there is so much rich 19th century history in Finland. I'm hoping I can build the Finlayson textile mills in Tampere and maybe have a good state modifier to represent the fact it was a perfect location for waterpower machinery. Also could be interesting seeing Finnish civil war and relationship with German empire.
Age of Darkness has descended on the Grand Dutchy with the massive failures by the previous Duke Alexander. The southern and eastern areas were lost, shattering the legacy of Vytautas the Great, who made it possible for Lithuania to be from the Baltic to the Black sea, not to mention the fact that lands conquered by Algirdas, which he earned by defending Europe against the Mongol Hordes were lost as well. Military and Economy are also not doing their best, with the Lithuanian army lacking a Great Hetman as well as funds to rebuild from the recent conflicts.
The newest ruler, Sigismund, is the 5th Jagiellonian to be the Grand Duke of Lithuania. It is not the first time he had tried his luck in Lithuania as he did try to petition his brother Alexander for land here, which Alexander bluntly rejected. Now at a respectable age of 38, he returns to Lithuania, to solve the mess that his older brother had made and to bring back the honour of the Jagiellonian name. It is time to return the honour to his Ancestors and get to work so that his Great-Grandfathers and Great Uncles efforts don't go down in vain!
>[META] A buddy of mine should claim the Avars in the next week to replace me as well, so just a heads up!<
In the context of Russiaβs current claim of suzerainty over Ukraine, I discovered that by the end of the Middle Ages, Ruthenia was not even controlled by the Grand Duchy of Moscow. What makes me even more surprised is the extent to which the Tsardom of Russia could expand in Eastern Europe. What was the secret of the Russian Empire from being a weak vassal of the Mongols to conquering Paris at the end of the Napoleonic Wars?
So basically in a roleplay Thankmar run I've lost the rebellion though my merciful little brother Otto has granted me the kingship of the Pomeranian marches (after he formed the HRE), so after all that I help cheated the Konradiners and Otto's son into forming the Grand Duchies of Saxony, Franconia and Swabia, I also helped the Otokars form Austria, so then I noticed that the kingdom of Germany still de jure existed, but it was literally only the duchy of Thuringia.
It was kinda an awkward situation so I warged into Otto and granted the good duke of thuringia the titular kingdom of thuringia so he would eventually de jure drift out of Germany, problem was he would create Germany every other minute and I had to warg and destroy it, which was getting annoying, so I did the only thing I could and granted Germany to Gero (Duke of Brandenburg) and destroyed titular thuringia and vassal transferred the duchy to Gero, so Brandenburg (and Mecklenburg-Werle) would de jure drift into Germany then I could grant thuringia a kingdom and it would drift without problem, it was a long 100 years (I've set the drift to 50 years).
So why isn't there a Grand Duchy of thuringia if the others all have one? or why isn't it in another grand duchy, say Franconia or Saxony? Seems a bit of an oversight to me.
Okay perhaps I phrased this incorrectly. What do you think about the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth?
