I've been thinking about Glendale's song "Breathe in a Bag," a lot recently. As someone with Autism, the song speaks to me, especially the lines, "But that's okay if your brain's made that way,", and "We might always feel a bit nervous, but even folks like us have a purpose." It shows me she's proud of who she is, and she's just trying to deal with it. That's my attitude towards my Autism. One thing I do to express myself is, I make self-insert OCs for things I like. Before, I would have made a penguin-taur OC, but now, I think my OC would be a relative of Glendale. My mom says putting myself as a younger relative demotes my value, but I'm just trying to be realistic, if Durpleton is 47, Glendale is older than me.

I grew up in Glendale but inherited a home in another part of LA county when I was in high school and had to abruptly leave in 1996.
It was a very traumatic exit so I never really visited or returned throughout my life but always romanticized the city I had loved so much but just through childhood memories.
As a child my favorite thing was Armenian and Lebanese food and the little markets my mom sent me to to pick up groceries. I loved the Armenian kids at school because they were always so nice to me, I was Black and badly bullied but NEVER EVER by the Armenian kids. Once I had a silly fight with an Armenian girl over basketball or something and she said a racial slur to me but was so horrified that she did that and said sorry so many times. She begged me not to tell because her parents wouldnβt forgive her or something like that. We made up very fast and I never forgot her or how the other Armenian kids just did their own thing.
I have lived a few other places in my adulthood and for some reason never considered raising my family in Glendale, I have no reason why.
A couple of months ago my teenaged daughter asked to be taken to the Americana to meet some friends so I found myself in Glendale alone for a few hours.
I drove all around the city, drove past my old house and my schools and places I used to hang out, drove past my childhood friends old homes and in dawned on me, I was moving back here.
Since that day my husband and I drive to Glendale from West South LA every chance we got, just falling in love and feeling like Iβm finally home again.
We closed the deal on a house near Verdugo/Colorado and I feel like my life is just beginning (which is stupid because Iβm 41 with a big family).
The city has changed so much since I left but the main things I loved have actually grown bigger. There are MORE Armenians and little shops and businesses than when I was young, the schools offer even MORE of the art and career classes that formed me. I am not a fan of the gentrification, but for some reason in Glendale the hipsters and yuppie out of state families that I literally can not stand and am running from in LA, do not seem to be around much which is confusing to me.
Why havenβt they taken over like in Eagle Rock, Atwater and now Highland Park?
Does anyone have insight into why Glendale remains so βitselfβ?
Whatβs going on everybody? Iβm pulling up for my 1st Cardinals game in AZ (born in raised in NY) and just looking for the food and entertainment spots. Only there for one full day besides Sunday. Let me know any suggestions
