Genus Vitis Puns

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I made a post a few years back brainstorming thematically appropriate names to use for the CaC (create-a-character) feature present in some dragonball games. Since then I've been passively collecting name ideas and compiled a considerable list - so here it is for anyone else struggling for ideas.

I've roughly broken it down by theme and by the race categories in Xenoverse/Fusions - as those are the primary games I've played with a nameable CaC. Note: most of these are intended to follow the general theme form the anime/manga/games while avoiding the foods/etc. used in canon names - including the slightly-less-than-canon names for NPCs in Fusions/Xenoverse that took a lot of easy ones like "Jam" or "Oats". There's not realy anythign wrong with stealing the NPC names or resusing the foods/etc. used in canon names - I just chose not to list things like that here. Seeing as the series is of Japanese origin, I used a few japanese foods/word swaps, but other languages are definitely fair game for coming up with your own character names.

I always find it quite surprising that there are hundreds, or thousands, of varieties of grapes in wine making, and yet just two main ones of coffee. I read there exist other less famous ones though, like Liberica, but I never came across them. I’m curious what other varieties people here have tried and what they thought of them.

I want a great many things, like a suppression of the constant existential dread that intermixes with crushing despair brought on by the zeitgeist of today’s cornucopia of sociological problems.

Anyway, I want to know one thing: where is Stardew Valley?

When I originally did some number crunching and research about salaries and house sizes in Stardew Valley, I originally took a dip in finding exactly where the village is if it had some real world equivalent. Things didn’t work out, but with the new update, I want to take another crack at it. The late game update gives us some larger view of the world, along with some landmarks. Let’s see if we can find it.

We have several different context clues on where the village lies. Here’s what I’ve gathered so far.

• You are allowed a wide variety of crops, but there is no way of knowing what is or isn’t native to the area, as we do not have a source for Joja’s or Pierre’s seeds. Foragables are, however, native (although possibly invasive), so we need to look for areas with all or most foragables in the game.
• The valley has maple, oak, pine, and mahogany trees. We need to find an area with all of them, as those trees do have certain habitats.
• There must be a desert either north or northwest of our designated location.
• There must be some large island or landmass to the east of our location separated by a body of water in order to represent the Gotoro Empire.
• There needs to be volcanic islands to the south to represent Ginger Island.
• Our Ginger Island must have some fossilized remains.

That’s quite a lot. Lucky, the 1.5 patch expansion lets us eliminate about three quarters of the planet. You see, Ginger Island was just a passing mention prior to the 1.5 expansion; why it was called that was left to sheer speculation. When the expansion dropped, it became apparent why the island was called the way it is: it’s the plentiful amount of ginger that grows naturally on the island.
