A list of puns related to "Gear Selector"
Hi! So I recently purchased my brand new 2021 Peugeot 2008 gt and I noticed that when Iβm in 4th gear (I have a manual version btw) that the gear selector moves forward on its own, why is this happening? Iβm taking it into a Peugeot dealer soon to see whatβs wrong, but can you give me some ideas as to what might be wrong, thank you!
Hello this isn't necessarily a problem but something that can be concerning as I haven't been able to find any information about it so any insight would be appreciated.
My 2004 Honda Legend (Japanese import, very similar to an Acura RL). It's an automatic but occasionally when shifting from park to drive or to reverse if I shift too fast or too slow or if it happens to be mad at me I'll get a popup in the infotainment screen with a bunch of text in Japanese I can't read and in my gauge cluster the selected gear will blink. The only way to stop this is to put the car in park and turn it off and back on again. Anyone know what this means and am I damaging the transmission?
Parking brake/ handbrake/ e-brake used to be a big honking lever. You could find it in your sleep, you could gesture it, and people would know what you are gesturing. But now its all over the place in most cars. Some have them on the floor to the left of the brake dangerously resembling the position of where the clutch would be in a manual transmission car. Some have it at the center console, and has a switch like a window switch. Pull to engage, push to disengage. Even my Boxter is guilty of having it under the steering on the left side where the pop the hood lever is for the Tacoma and WRX. And it operates reverse of the center console switch, push to engage, pull to disengage. Once you have pulled the key, you can't tell whether the parking brake was engaged because the only way to know is the light on the button which turns off as soon as you pull the key. I double check everything before leaving the vehicle, and this is annoying.
Then there is the gear selector. Some place it on the center console move in a straight line from park to drive and have lockout button. Some have to be moved zig-zag. The old 2001 CRV I used to own had a stalk on the right side of the steering column. No lockout button, zig-zag movement. At least they all used to move and you could tell by touch whether you are in drive or park. Recently got a loaner Mercedes C300. Another stalk on the right of the steering wheel, lever returns to center when you select a mode, so you can't tell what mode you are in without looking at the instrument console. And the park is a button at the end of the stalk where the overdrive on-off toggle button used to be on the CRV. Dials and buttons for gear selectors can f*** off.
Everytime I get a rental, I am left scratching my head for the first few minutes. I never feel comfortable enough to take my foot off the brake and let the parking brake hold it at a red light like I do on my personal vehicles. Why can't we have standards for the basic controls of a car?
Edit: spelling
I would love for my rig to not only simulate the experience of driving manuals but also of driving Automatics, has anyone ever built their own Gear Selector, or is this completely uncharted territory?
Hey all, I'm planning on buying a Mach-E when my BMW i3s lease ends in March, but I'm concerned about the gear selector being a little wheel between the seats. My i3 has the infotainment wheel there, and my dog constantly hits it and changes the radio, cancels navigation, or even makes phone calls when she's sitting in the front seat.
What's the behavior of the Mach-E gear selector if someone messes with it while you're driving?
I'm particularly concerned about it getting touched when I'm driving in a parking lot, causing me to accidentally drive in the wrong direction.
Hey, I just got a 2005 IS300 auto and whenever I shift into D or R thereβs a single high pitched beep. Not sure if thatβs normal, but the car goes into gear totally fine and it shifts well. Thanks.
I got the pity selector for the card banner. I've been trying to get I-no's insta kill card but I also have one of the set cards remaining to complete the GG FES set. Which should I go with for using the selector?
I need all the parts for both sides and a working dust cover that will shut, please and thank you.
Is there any mod that we can install so the gear selector lights up and highlights the gear youβre in? It seems so odd to not have this as standard in the Ecoboost.
If you car has an automatic gear selector that returns to the default position the moment you let go, how you you put it in park?

Anything to be concerned about? Anything I can do?
I personally prefer the normal stick automatic gear selector. Some of the other gear selectors include the rotary gear selector, the one that comes on your steering wheel (like the Model 3), the tap to select (most new Hyundai's), the weird drag on screen gears (Newer Model S), or the ones that come on some luxury cars (although luxury cars have countless different ways they implement the gears).
I know some people posted about this a few months ago so I figured it was worth giving an updated experience. For reference I have roughly 6700 miles on my 1st Edition.
So for the last few weeks I occasionally encountered the Drive System/Electrical System/Travel Assist errors where you can only place it in park on my ID.4 a few times. Monday I finally encountered the problem of not being able to put it in gear when I went to leave work even though no errors were displayed. I tried the "Get out of car, lock/unlock, put on seatbelt, and then hit brake" trick a couple of times to no avail. After trying a couple of times over an hour (I went inside for 15 minutes and then another 45 minutes) I was finally able to get it into gear and get my car home. That last time I actually was ready to call roadside assistance, but figured it was worth one more shot.
Long story short I took it to the dealer yesterday and I just received word they are replacing the main control components in the steering wheel (basically everything except the little screen which will get swapped over and anything actually related to the wheel itself if I understood the video correctly). They did not give me an estimate on when the parts will arrive, but when I dropped mine off the service rep did tell me that they had to replace the touchscreen in someone else's ID.4 which only took three days for the parts to arrive so hopefully the long supply chain times are starting to shorten. I am also glad the diagnosis took less than a day since I think early on there was a lot of back and forth with VW to diagnose this issue. When I dropped it off the rep also told me that they are still required to contact VW about any issues experienced so I am sure word has gotten around.
I still love the car and I look forward to driving it again without worrying if I will get stranded. I will post any updates I get and also some final timelines of how long I was without the car. Also if you start seeing those errors I mentioned I recommend heeding them and not putting off going to get your car serviced. Definitely my own fault for not making time in my schedule, but finding yourself stuck like that is quite a bit more frustrating.
Oh and this is my first car with a warranty and it was nice being told what they were doing to fix it without getting the call saying "This is how much it will be, do you still want us to go ahead with it?" Definitely got that a lot over the 200k miles with my GTi!
Any advice on how to begin would be greatly appreciated!
Was a hot one (~90degress) today and after riding for ~160 miles I pulled in the driveway to see smoke. After taking a closer look and cleaning up my 2014 Triumph Bonneville T100, there is a constant drip coming from the gear selector.
This is a new one for me and the only event that could relate to this was my having to down shift hard at one point during the ride, before this -- I've never had a oil leak.

Hey gang, Iβve got some transmission issues on my 6-speed 2014 Cruze. Thing is a piece of shit, I know, but Iβve got a whining noise when I push or pull the gear shifter out of a gear. Clutch is all the way in and it seems to only happen when at around 40km/h or above. It starts when I put pressure on the shifter and stops when in neutral or when I push it into another gear.
Iβve also got a whining noise when I push the clutch in, which I think is the throw out bearing. Could the two noises be related?
Iβm set to bring the car in for another loud transmission noise a mechanic said was the PTO, which I thought was on trucks only. I assume he meant the diff?
Thanks for the help!
I was wondering if it was possible to put a newer Q50/Q60 gear selector/shift know on my auto M37x since the paint is coming off on mine and leaves my hand sticky. If anyone has done something like this or if itβs possible lmk.
