A list of puns related to "Automated Manual Transmission"
ive noticed that the new facelift kia picanto comes with a 5 speed amt transmission so is it any good ?
I know what the DSG is and how it works, but I find it difficult to explain to friends who are less in to cars. They donβt seem to see the difference between an automated manual and a normal automatic. They think that if it does the shifting for you, whatβs the difference? My wife wonders why Iβm going out of my way to get an automated manual when βlots of other cars have paddle shiftersβ, not understanding that the paddle shifters in an accord/altima/optima are not the same. Does anyone have a good explanation of the differences and why DSG is better (or worse)?
Separately, do all automated manuals have a dual clutch? I find myself bragging about faster shifts and rev matching as a characteristic of the DSG, when in reality itβs the dual clutch that gives us those perks.
Maybe my own understanding is more surface level than I realize, so some tech specs would also be appreciated.
Edit: I know how the dual clutch works with gear preselection , etc. I'm more trying to provide a simple explanation of why there is a difference between a true triptronic/DSG/AMT when you push the paddle between when you push it on a normal automatic.
As per the title really, Iβm wondering if any vehicles have been made in the last 10 years that still utilise a 4 speed (or less) manual transmission. My Google research has thus far not turned up any results.
As titled, I am looking for recommendations. I already have my license and want to learn manual. I donβt know anyone who has a manual car for practice.
Hi there. Iβm looking for a car with a manual transmission that is on brand for me - an almost 40-year-old attorney. I donβt pick up clients often, but when I do, I donβt want to scare them with the racerboi stylings of a Civic Type R/Si or a WRX. Nor give off budget attorney vibes in my current car - a 2012 Mazda3 hatchback (which I love, otherwise). Nor give off Patrick Bateman vibes with something super lux. Plus, Iβm practical and have two little kids - so I need some kind of suitable dadmobile.
In the US, so options limited. If I could go back in time and get a lightly used Acura TSX, I would. Also wish I could just get a Volvo S60 without an automatic.
Budget: USD $30K give or take. (Edit: Could spend more but Iβm kinda cheap, TBH.)
Am I wrong in thinking that John/Dean would both be the kind of guy to insist on driving stick? Especially on a muscle car?
1a.) How do I turn? I tend to down shift to 2nd when I turn, which often leads to me sort of lurch and stuff around the turn. Itβs awkward and I have a feeling thereβs a better way to do it. (Iβm getting better at βrev matching,β I think?β but only in 2nd gear. I have a long way to go.)
1b) Is it normal to hold the clutch down around that turn and then let it go slowly after youβve made the turn? (My inclination is to come off the clutch very slowly so the car doesnβt lurch, but I donβt know how to know whatβs too long.)
1b.) Speaking of which, any idea whatβs happening to cause me to lurch in 2nd. Am I coming off the clutch too early? Or hitting the gas too hard? Or both?
2.) When stopping, how soon do you hit the clutch? Do you do it right before you come to a complete stop/the car cuts off, or much sooner (50 ft - 100 ft) and just coast with the clutch pressed down?
3.) At red lights, should I stop in 1st and hold the clutch down? Or shift into Neutral and hold down only the brake until the light changes? (So far, I have been doing the former but it seems a bit awkward. I want to be in gear when Iβm driving, but also donβt want to mess anything up by using my clutch too often.)
4.) I know weβre not supposed to ride the clutch β which I donβt do β but when youβre parking/reversing, do you sort of balance your feet on the clutch and gas to sort of stabilize the car? Or is your foot completely off the clutch? (I think my car would just cut off at those speeds, but just want to be sure Iβm not missing something and/or causing damage to my car.)
5.) Is engine braking bad for the engine?
Thank you!
My 2019 WRX STIβs value has been going up and Iβm getting great offers for it so Iβm looking to trade up. I would like a coupe with a manual transmission and either a turbo 6 cylinder or a V8. I live in Northern Virginia so it can snow sometimes so AWD would be a plus but not sure if itβs NEEDED. Also Iβd like for it to be pretty reliable and sporty at the same time. Price range is ~37k
I have thought about just building the STI to be quicker but I have been seeing it cost an arm and a leg to do so which is sad because I love the STI.
Thanks for your input guys, Iβve been indecisive lately.
I saw in a post a while back that it had a Lexus transmission but I want to know what itβs called so I can see how good it is.
I always thought Lexus was strictly automatic.
