Are pre-ground flaxseeds much worse than buying the whole ones and grinding them yourself right before consuming them?

I heard they lose nutrition once they are ground and was wondering if it's a huge difference.

How do you eat flaxseed?

They've been recommanded for their Omega content, and they are actually cheap here so I bought some

Raw they're kinda bland and hard to chew, and I don't know how to eat them ground up because I don't do shakes or oatmeal.

Is there another use in cooking I havan't seen here so far?

Thanks for your help

Finex seasons their pans with flaxseed oil?

I've seen lots of posts here of flaking seasoning that were met with comments of "classic flaxseed seasoning flaking right off!" I personally seasoned two of my pans with flaxseed oil only to have it start flaking off shortly after, and have never had that happen with any other seasoning method. But I was just browsing over at the Finex website and noticed that they boast of preseasoning their pans with "100% organic flaxseed oil". I assume they wouldn't do it if it's just going to flake off later. Anybody have an explanation? How can Finex do a base coat of seasoning with flaxseed oil successfully, while so many home users get terrible results?

Flaxseed Meal Carbs

Hey everybody, I'm wondering why the big discrepancy in carbs between these brands of flaxseed meal:

From Woolies 28.8g/100g https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/698018/macro-organic-brown-flaxseed-meal

From Coles 15.3g/100g https://shop.coles.com.au/a/noranda-square/product/coles-brown-flaxseed-meal

And from this website https://sureketo.com/search/ground%20flaxseed, a couple of American brands which claim only around 6g/100g

I'm making this very nice bread which calls for 150g of flaxseed powder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O60UQMK56Es. I used the Macro brand meal from Woolies and it turned out very nicely, although a lot darker than in the video. But now I'm wondering if the carb count is a bit on the high side.

Super Simple Flaxseed Keto Bread | Nut free | Wholemeal Texture

Keto Flaxseed Bread - Nut-free, Gluten-Free, Dairy-free

Keto Flaxseed Bread - Fluffy yum! feels like ordinary wholemeal bread

Follow details via video HERE to see the actual process.

This bread texture resembles 99% like wholemeal bread with only 1.1g net carb per slice! Super simple with no rocket science ingredients. using just egg whites, flaxseed powder and psyllium as main ingredients. The rest, you know, all the baking stuffs necessity like baking powder. No gluten, no nut, allergen free and won't give you stomach upset :) The bread toasted so well and it's so crispy.

I don't know about you but one of the things i crave the most when adopting keto lifestyle is bread!!! I've attempted million times to try recreate so many different bread but they turn out to be eggy, cakey and so dense. I thought I never had it again. I refuse to use vital wheat gluten as I can't really tolerate gluten. So the only chance I have is to use psyllium husk and flaxseed powder. But after so many attempts and troubleshooting, I finally get this right!

Before you try this, be sure you read through my troubleshooting tips and fixes as it will potentially save you so much sweat and tears :P

Baking Time: 1h 10 min

Yield: 12 slices

Ingredients

  1. 260g room temperature egg whites (it is about 6 large sized egg whites but measure it to get the consistency right)
  2. 150g flaxseed powder.
  3. 18g psyllium husk.
  4. 8g baking powder.
  5. 1.8g salt.
  6. 2.5g instant yeast for bread flavor (optional)
  7. 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  8. 60ml boiling water

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add all dry ingredients (flaxseed powder, psyllium husk, baking powder, instant yeast, salt) into mixing bowl. Give it a quick mix.
  2. Add in wet ingredient (egg whites, apple cider vinegar). Give it a quick mix.
  3. Pour in boiling water.
  4. Continue to mix it with spatula until no lumps and the batter becomes dry and sticky. Sticky and solid batter is the consistency you want. It could take some time to mix it.
  5. Pour the batter into a 8" cake tin. Shape it. Avoid flattening the top.
  6. Bake at 180 degree celsius for 1hr 10mins. Then, remove bread from the tin. Pu

Keto Flaxseed Buns

Light, soft, fluffy and crispy when toasted.

NUTRITION INFO [ Total Servings = 5 ] Per serving ; Total Carb = 15.7 g Dietary Fiber = 13.6 g Net Carb = 2.1 g Calories = 232 Total Fat = 11.9 g Protein = 10.6 g

INGREDIENTS DRY INGREDIENT Ground Golden Flaxseeds = 150 g / 1 1/4 cup Psyllium Husk = 18 g / 2 tbsp (Note: The psyllium husks must be ground until half its original volume before using. This is important as it will absorb the water more effectively and this is actually more suitable for baking. However, if you are using pre ground psyllium powder, only 1 to 2 tsp is required. Please see this video about psyllium husk and powder for better understanding and success - https://youtu.be/_bnCwudgFt4) Baking Powder = 8 g / 2 tsp (If using double acting, reduce amount by half) Salt = 1/2 to 1 tsp

WET INGREDIENTS Eggs = 4 large egg whites (153 g) OR 2 whole eggs {The protein from egg whites helps to boost the rise while fats from the egg yolks hinders the rise. Hence, it is highly recommended to use egg whites) Apple Cider Vinegar = 28 g / 2 tbsp Hot or Boiling Water = 100 ml / 0.4 cup for ground psyllium husk = 50 ml / 0.2 cup for psyllium powder

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven at 350F or 180C.
  2. In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients until well combined.
  3. Add all the wet ingredients and mix until a dough is formed. The dough using psyllium powder is much softer but still manageable especially after kneading.
  4. Knead the dough for a while.
  5. Portion the dough at 90 g each. The ground psyllium husk dough will yield 5 buns while the psyllium powder dough will yield 4 buns. Of course, if you make them smaller, you will have more buns.
  6. Wet your hands as the dough is quite sticky. Shape into a ball and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  7. Top with any of seeds, nuts or herbs of your choice (optional). 8 Bake for 30 mins or until golden brown. The buns are done when they feel light to the touch and sound hollow when you tap on their sides.
  8. Cool completely
  9. These buns can be stored at room temperature for a few days if you have a cool and dry climate otherwise, its best to refrigerate them earlier. They can be refrigerated up to 1 week and frozen for months.
  10. These buns can be reheated by toasting or steaming.
  11. These buns are crispy when toasted. You can even slice them into 3 pieces as they are quite thick due to the good rise.
