A list of puns related to "Eiswein"
Now, Iβve never had ice wine, so for starters a comparison (if itβs even possible) with Sauternais would be an amazing help!
But more importantly...
What are the differences between the more traditional German/Austrian styles, and the Canadian(/American?) styles?
How do the two differ?
Thank you.
A relative of my girlfriend's is getting married. My gf lives in Germany right now, her cousin lives in LA. Now my gf thought about sending her this certain type of wine from Germany. After some research it turned out that it's hard (or impossible?) to send alcohol to CA from outside the US, though.
So does anyone happen to know a store in LA that has this certain type of wine? And ideally accepts payments with PayPal or a non-American credit card?
Hello /r/wine!
Thought I would share a recent experience I was fortunate enough to have, in the hope that you may educate me or know about it for the future, so you may seek the experience yourself.
I recently had a six year old, German ice wine. I found a deal at my local liquor store: $55 for a 375ml bottle of Selbach-Oster Riesling Eiswein from 2010.
I put it in the fridge for one hour, then pulled it out at room temp for ten minutes. During those ten minutes I cooled the brandy glasses I was going to use to drink it with.
Here is the album of pictures, including the cork, the wine glass, and the bottle. I didn't really focus on picture taking, so I am sorry for the poor quality and number of photos. I didn't think I was going to be sharing my experience.
The color after pouring was a surprisingly vibrant yellow, like store-bought apple juice. The smell was strong - lots of alcohols, and something that smelled like a freshly painted house. There was the musk from the Riesling too, which melded so closely with the latex paint smell that it was hard to tease out the difference.
The taste was extremely sweet and fruity, reminding me again of overly sweet apple juice, with a scent reminiscent of fermented bananas, which may even be related to the chemical responsible for the latex smell.
Though sweet and pleasant, it was quite strong and over-powering (especially for a white wine). There is a strong acidity to it, and the sweetness melts over your tongue with a warm and paralyzing effect. Holding in your mouth a little longer than normal is required to get the real after-taste, though - as you need to heat it to body-temp. At that point it's so overpowering it's hard not to swallow, but in the moment before you do, the smells and flavors are unique and sublime.
There is an overall richness that I suspect comes simply from age. I have never had such an old and complex wine, and it was a delight, despite what may intuitively be off-putting flavors, such as the latex smell.
What prompted me to change my mind, and scrap together the images I did have and share this with you, is that I am truly out of my league with this wine. I cannot describe that moment before you swallow, what the flavors are, and what chemicals are responsible for them. What made the latex smell like it, and is it related to the banana and clove smell I experienced as I took sips of the wine?
Was the latex smell likely ethyl-acetate? At one poin
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm looking for somewhere to buy eiswein in WA, but online searches are showing nothing, I'm beginning to think I will probably have to order overseas and pay shipping.
But before I do, I thought I'd ask to see if anyone knows of something I haven't found.
Has anyone ordered/bought any before? Any recommendations on where to buy?
I bought Ernst Bretz Riesling Eiswein 2002 for my wife on one of our first dates and I'm trying to find it for our first anniversary. I live in NYC but am not sure how to find a bottle. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: BTW: I don't have to have 2002 any vintage works.
I'm trying to find German eiswein, I keep getting lost in the online world. Can anyone point me toward a good one? Hopefully before valentines day..
I went to Germany a few years ago and tried some Eiswein. Absolutely loved it, and now I'm looking for more.
Australia doesn't produce it's own eiswein for obvious reasons, so I'm looking for alternative sources.
Any recommendations of websites/stores to buy from?
Also any info on different types would be good. I have tried the German one but I believe the Austrian's make a good one too?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
But thatβs comparing apples to oranges
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
