A list of puns related to "Dive Computer"
Got a used shearwater peregrine (my first computer!) and I want to get the white straps to go with my kit.. but the standard length flops all over the place on my small wrists. Is there any downside to just cutting off the extra rubber?
(Iβm not interested in switching to bungee)
Relatedly, if anyone has general recs for equipment or brands that have products designed/sized for women, Iβm all ears! Feels like a huge untapped marketβ¦
Wow, this thing seems to have just vanished from the shelves. What happened? Anyone know where I could lay hands on one?
As my partner is enjoying scuba diving sufficiently to finally get her own computer (the hiccups with renting played a part as well), my thought is to pass mine onto her as she likes it which gives me the option of buying a new one with some features that my current one doesn't have.
What I'd like:
Budget is not the main limiting factor as it would be a Christmas gift to myself, but I'd like to stay within three figures (excluding transmitter). At this point I know I want to continue diving and enjoy it a lot so if possible, I'd like a computer that wouldn't have to be upgraded if I went deeper down the rabbit hole.
Thanks for your advice!
So Iβm new to scuba and did my OW and AOW back to back so have just completed 13 OW dives. I was wondering if people logged their dives in books or just used their dive computers? I hope to work my way up to 50 dives in the next 18 months so I can dive with Mako sharks. Will the dive shop want a book with stamps or will the dives logged in my Shearwater app be enough?
How in-depth should I dive into floating-point representation in computer architecture? I understand the basic layout and how it works, but when it comes to floating point arithmetic, I'm a little fuzzy on the details.
I ask this because I took on the role of a reverse engineer/malware analysis role for a spring internship and using the break to refresh some older courses. I remember this topic just giving me a headache for some reason.
Hey Everyone,
Was looking for everyone input on a good dive computer watch. Iβve got about 5 dives under my belt and plan to dive at least once a year. I might get the nitrox cert in a year or do. I think my price range is 200-300. What does everyone recommend?
Thanks!
I have no knowledge in scuba diving. I want to buy him a good diving computer.so far I found this one : seac driver
does this one have everything you need from a diving computer? has anyone got any thoughts / other propositions?thanks a lot!
I will appreciate if someone can sum up the main features this one have, so I can ask him if it's enough for him.
You ever find yourself sort of full body going into the game? Maybe swerving your head to dodge bullets?
Today I started to lean all the way back in my chair while hitting βSβ on the keyboard to pull up from a steep dive in a bomber, and I made it but the chair gave way. I ended up on the floor with a thud, staring at the ceiling and contemplating my life choices. I wish I had video.
Grateful for the game this week as I recover from COVID (thankfully was vaxxed so should be ok). Also glad there is no proximity chat so no one can head me cough
From what I understand massive amounts of data can be stored on DNA so would you be able to theoretically create an entire world and detail it with AI, store it on a DNA computer, and then run it on the DNA computer? Could we create a DNA symbiote that attaches to our brain to simulate full dive VR as an output and takes the stored data from the dna as an input? Since weβre reaching the limits of silicon, could this revolutionize CPUs and GPUs?
If we created a symbiote that could feed information to our brains, we could also enhance humans like venom or other sci-fi symbiotes. If we created a way for these symbiotes to communicate with each other, we could completely revolutionize the internet and the way we access the world. What do you guys think?
Curious as to what other divers do.
Hi all. I was wondering if you could recommend a dive computer for me.
Just kidding. After reading through so many of these posts over the years, I finally decided to ditch my 15 year-old Suunto, and my new Perdix AI should arrive tomorrow. Thanks for providing the unanimous recommendation without me having to ask!
I got this dive computer about 20 years ago. Unfortunately I have not been able to dive in about 15 years (argh) but looking to get back into it. I would like to download my old dives into a PC (about 100 dives). Does anyone what this device is and what cable would work? I see it has a PC connector, but I have been unable to find the cable. The brand says OMS, but I think it is a rebranded clone of another device. thanks!

i went to my store and my very experienced and knowledgeable dive instructor/ store owner said to get a shearwater. he said the peregrine, petrel, perdix (ai), and teric ai, in rising price order. I look to get something long term as I have been an open water cert for a year and have dove a number of times and look to take AOW very soon. whatβs the pros and cons of each one? is the 1500$ teric ai really worth it? how important is a transmitter and how reliable are they against the normal pressure gauge and compass you rent? any advice for price value or features are appreciated.
Hello,
I've been looking at dive computers and I am not sure what the best options are.
I am looking for:
I started this when I saw the descent mk2i, but it seems (understandably) pricy. I've heard about Shearwater but not sure if they are good for what I would like.
Thank you for your time!
I just got my open water certification last night and am wanting to continue diving in the future. My instructor said that at around $400 is where you start to see decent dive computers. Are there any around that price that anyone uses or loves? Also, aside from the computer, how much should I expect to spend on buying everything else? I donβt want garbage equipment but Iβm not looking into buying top of the line gear either.
On todays dive, I came close to my dive computer's (Suunto Eon Core) NDL, to within a couple of minutes. At this point, I told my instructor and started ascending. I did the safety stop at 3m according to my computer and then ascended to the surface.
After the dive, I loaded the dive into Subsurface out of curiosity. Now I see that it computes a ceiling towards the end of the dive. Does this mean that I was in deco according to the algorithm that Subsurface uses?
I also see that the "Surface GF" reaches > 90% just before my ascent and that the tissue heat map shows some red at the very end.
Out of my group, I was the only one that seemingly needed to ascend due to the NDL. Both other divers and the instructor stayed down (slightly) longer.
Was this a dangerous dive? Should I have done something differently during the dive? Should I not trust my computer / change it to be more conservative?
Here is the Subsurface graph: https://ibb.co/5rJDqb6
I got the Garmin Mk2i with air integration, do I need to have a pressure and depth gauge in addition to that?
My son and I have taken up free diving in preparation for him to spearfish.
I know the dive computers are used for free diving, but do you use them for spearfishing as well?
On to the probably terribly naive portion of my question: if you do use one, does the device repel (or attract) any wildlife?
I assume there are alarms to warn you of your time under water - do those alarms or backlit faces spook the fish at all?
If you do wear one, as a spearo, which one do you use?
Thank you!
Hello everyone! Any recommendations on a dive watch/computer? Im really getting into free diving and looking into spearfishing. Wanted a computer that was not gonna break the bank and showed only relevant info for freedive/spearfishing.
I am new to diving, and thank you
Wanted to make everyone aware that Aqua Lung has issued a recall for the i330r Dive Computer.
See the attached letter I received yesterday (although it was dated 2 August) :(

Could DNA computers be the future of gaming, simulations, and full dive VR?
