A list of puns related to "Distal Phalanges"
Species: dog
Age: 9 weeks
Sex/Neuter status: M, intact
Breed: Lab/poodle cross
Body weight: 7 kg
History: Just picked up our new puppy from the breeder. A few days later, I noticed that he does not have 3 of the nails on his L forelimb and is also missing one on his L hindlimb. The corresponding digital pads are much smaller and the III-IV digital pads on the forelimb are slightly fused. Limb length is symmetric and by palpation, the other bony structures are intact. My guess is that he is missing a few of his distal phalanges.
How common is a paw deformity of this nature? Is this part of a syndrome with other associated symptoms or deformities? How badly do you think this will affect him (i.e. early arthritis)?
Clinical signs: No apparent gait abnormality or discomfort noted.
Duration: Congenital
Your general location: Canada
Links to test results, X-rays, vet reports etc: N/A (our first vet visit is pending; he has had his first shots/exam with another vet who did not identify any abnormality).
I am a graduate student so most of my climbing training involves climbing on plastic. Anybody have advice on how to build up fingertip callouses while unable to climb outside? I get to climb outside once a week and one problem that I have been working involves yarding on a razor crimp that slices my fingertips like butter. I realize this might be more of a /bouldering question, however I trust people on this subreddit more than most of those folk.
Sex: F
Age: 32
Location: USA
Height: 5'9
Weight: 209
Medical Issues: plaque psoriasis, mainly scalp (90%), plus some dime/quarter-sized bonus spots (ear, belly button, foot). Nothing else diagnosed.
Full disclosure: I looked those terms up. Well, I knew phalange at least.
Anyway, it has been months (3ish). I only feel it when there is any sort of pressure on this point, which unfortunately happens semi-often with my job (server, and holding plates in a specific way). I've never had this problem before.
My dad had a bone cyst on his hand once that he had to have shaved off . This occurred on the base of his thumb. Wondering if this is relevant.
It's just sensitive and sore when I touch it directly. But the longevity of the pain is what bothers me. If it was a bruise I would have assumed it would have gone away a while ago.
Is this something I should bring up to my doctor?
what is a potential cause? I haven't been able to find anything that seems to closely match my situation with Dr. Internet. I do have joints there, and I can actually flex them laterally but that's it. Anyone have insight?
Edited for formatting issue Regarding [Sloth] for the MWC:
βItβs fucking lazy is what it is, Kahrl. Stop trying to pretend itβs some super-secret-specialty-human plan, or a grand strategy, and just admit itβ¦sheβs lazy!β The shriveled creature extended one multi-jointed arm to point into the viewscreen, currently displaying a young human female working rather hard, it seemed, on some small device in her lap.
βAh, come off it, Middix, sheβs workinβ!β argued the first creatureβs companion. Like the first, he waved with a multi-jointed arm at the viewscreen, proclaiming, βSheβs doinββ¦I dunno, some human shit!β
Middix, the disgruntled shipowner who was quite frustrated with the cost and lack of results from his most recent hire, the Human engineer named Vora, who was currently fiddling about on screen, scoffed. βHuman shit? Whaddaya mean by that? Sheβs a damned engineer, she hasnβt bothered doing any engineering, far as Iβve seen! Is that βhuman shitβ? She lets the ship run itself, most the damn time, and whenever something breaks she makes a little bot to fix it instead of putting in the [colloquially similar to βelbow greaseβ, though explicitly referring to the distal elbow on the primary manipulators] to do her job, she up and tosses a bot at it! Far as I can see sheβs not an engineer, sheβs a tinkerer. If I didnβt know better, Iβd say she was trying to replace herself entirely!β
Kahrl, in his defense, was acquainted with humans a great deal more than his nestmate Middix, having spent several of their formative years off-planet with a series of Alliance trading vessels. Both of them were Kirillians, a race that humans were notoriously good at duping, since they seemed to lack an innate sense of suspicion, and lacked a matured ability to identify lies (unless given astronomical amounts of time to work out the truth). Consequently, Middixβs doubts...well, they were well earned.
Not all humans abused their trusting nature, but enough had in the past that Kahrl had once shared his nestmateβs uncertainty, and theyβd both ended more than their fair share of Salvage trips at Human-allied outposts, only to not realize theyβd been cheated until someone else brought it up to them, independently.
That would probably have held true still for Kahrl too, if not for his time in the Alliance Trading guild, where heβd spent time with humans that were at least generally more trustworthy than the ones he had encountered as a private trader out here in the f

I'm a scientist so naturally I did a back of the envelope calculation. TL;DR, the batboys should have a ~35-37 ft wingspan fully extended. Read on for the proof.

So hereβs what we have to work with:

Obviously I donβt plan on doing a lot of movements that involve the lower body, but Iβm trying to think of exercises thatβll give me a good workout using mostly the upper body, beyond just isolation exercises. Anyone care to help me brainstorm?
First one to figure it out gets absolutely nothing and will like it:
Once all is lost to immolation from my core ro where I end
A gale shall sing its admiration and the world will hear it said
In my dominion I am viewed though none else step inside
My loneliness is only soothed when I lay and close my eyes
Take from me the means by which I flee from where I am
And tell me if you've ever wished to strike me where I stand
Grant me please a mother's love or leave me on my own
The muffled sounds from out above remind me I'm alone
Resentful of the summer sky so beautiful and clear
Whilst I am held by unseen ties that manifest my fears
The foreign tongue in which it speaks behind me all the while
Though low in tone does promise me it longs to see my smile
So from my core to body's end I seek no light at all
For now I know my only friend walks here in darkened halls
Soft rays of morning sunshine left her skin absolutely glowing. Waking up beside her was the moment John looked forward to every day. Watching as she lay there peacefully, her beauty never failed to astound him. She was beautiful, even if she didnβt see it. This morning was no different, all he could see was perfection.
βIβm getting fat!β She had started to say the day before, but he always quelled her worries, βitβs just bloating! Youβll lose it all in no time. Give it a couple of days.β
He wouldnβt lie if you asked him if he secretly enjoyed her newly extended belly. Her skin had even taken on a natural tan, she was looking so healthy with her newly brown skin. He ran a finger down her cheek, taking in her new look. Aw, sheβs foaming in her sleep. Better clean her up. He took a handkerchief from the bedside table and slowly wiped along the bottom of her nose and mouth. The white fabric soon staining red. He knew he had to be careful with her, the poor thing, she had become so delicate the last week or so. They didnβt want another incident. Not like the other day when he took some skin off her hand from grabbing it too roughly. Even if she had forgiven him, John felt horrible. This was his precious lover he hurt.
He never knew bones to be beautiful until hers were exposed however. The distal phalanges were so petite, the new tips of her left hand even more lovely than her pale pink nails. John made sure he had cleaned in between each cream coloured phalange, his girl liked to be presentable after all. It was something he always respected about her. When she became bed bound, she made him promise that he would keep her perfect still. A promise he was happy to keep.
So John kept her clean. Even when she became incontinent and made a mess of their shared bed, he was quick to wipe her up, change the sheets and put her back to bed. Soothing her as she cried herself to sleep. It was a hard first couple of days, but eventually she stopped making a mess down there and they were able to continue on their lives semi-normally.
Now he got to spend every day watching her as she slept. The girl of his dreams. Forever his, forever perfect.
Good day Doctors, My right hand thumb has been really painful for the last 2-3 months. This past week it became so painful that I can hardly open a soft drink bottle. Then like today its normalish again. I went to the local GP and he said I should get an xray to see if its broken. The xray came back with the following commens from the radiologist:
I took the xrays and letter from radiologist back to the GP and he said its nothing just a little bit of inflamation and going for a hand MRI is a waste of money.
However, I am very doubtful of this diagnosis. He prescribed some ibuprofen and predisone 5mg.
This question came to my mind since having only one pressure point on the string would lead to less resistance on release, wouldn't it? And in my case I observed that it leads to a much more effortless pull if I use a thumb release instead of the "normal" method. I know that this is quite unorthodox, and there must be a reason why it's not used in competition, but I'm still interested in what are your thoughts on this topic.
Fusion, L4/L5/S1 January 2021. Two rods and 6 pins. Iβve had sciatica since 1989 on-and-off. When it kicked up, I was rendered immobile and in agony. After surgery, my sciatic nerve in my left butt cheek feels like itβs pulling - like taffy. Itβs a low, deep, agonizing pain that wonβt go away. There are just different degrees of the pain. Most times it makes me nauseous. Since the surgery Iβve had varying degrees of numbness and tingling in my left big toe, and recently, the same thing in the distal phalanges of my left index finger. What is going on? My surgeon is no help. When my husband told him during my most recent appointment that I go to bed sobbing in pain many nights, he told my husband he should sleep in another bedroom! So, no, not going back. Should I be seeing a neurologist or a new orthopedist? Or someone else? Iβm sick of being in even more constant pain than usual. Also, whatβs with constantly being on the verge of a Charlie horse in my left calf? I have adapted to sleeping with my left foot hyper-extended. My post-surgery imaging shows excellent bone healing. The surgeon said my sciatic nerve was βmangledβ before the surgery and is quite angry. Has anyone else experienced anything like this after a similar surgery? Is there any hope of healing?
Do your worst!
How do I go about performing the kinematic and dynamic analysis of such a finger, I am new to mechanisms in robotics, could anyone please help me out?
The finger is composed of a distal phalange (DP), middle phalange (MP), proximal phalange (PP), and metacarpal bone (MB). The finger joints consist of a proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint and a metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. The length of the designed finger from the end of the DP to the center of the MCP joint is 83 mm, which is close to that of a human finger. The flexion and extension of the finger are reproduced by pulling the tendon fixed on the phalange during contraction and relaxation of the muscle. The motor used for finger flexion was mounted inside the finger PP, and the wire was fixed to the worm wheel gear and MP. Finger flexion is performed by pulling the wire fixed to the worm wheel gear when the motor is driven. The PP of the finger is flexed at the MCP joint by the motor-bevel gear-worm gear, and at this time, the wire fixed to the worm wheel gear is pulled and the MP and DP are flexed at the same time. The finger extension is performed by a restoring spring mounted between the PP and MP, and finger flexion is performed by a motor-wire type tendon-driven mechanism with one DOF. For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
This is a redux of my first ever post in this community, 3 years ago. The word listed first is what I think is best, but I do have alternatives for some of them.

** Ban Declawing Act of 2021**
Whereas declawing is an unnecessary and cruel technique to prevent scratching in pets
Whereas most veterinary experts believe it is not necessary and can cause many behavioral side effects
Whereas there are many other ways to prevent and mitigate the effects of animals clawing that donβt involve this procedure

Section 2: Provisions
(a) It shall be prohibited to perform an Onychectomy procedure on any companion animal in the State of Greater Appalachia for any reasoning except for when a licensed veterinarian deems it medically necessary for the animal.
(i) Any person who performs an Onychectomy procedure for any other reason than prescribed by Section 2(a) of this legislation shall be guilty of a class 2 misdemeanor.
*Section 3: Enactment*
