A list of puns related to "Dingwall"
Hey everyone,
My Dingwall NG-2 (black) was stolen from my house in Kingston Ontario sometime in the past 2 weeks while I was home from university. Serial number 03196. Police report is getting sorted out, also had my Fender strat stolen too. Figure that Dingwalls are uncommon enough that it should turn up somewhere, really praying that I can get it back. Incredible bass with a lot of sentimental value to me.
A useless question I know, but I wanted to hear your expert opinion before I doll out the money
I'm fairly new to playing the bass. I have a Yamaha TRB504, which is my very first instrument. But I now want to upgrade to a 5 string and treat myself to a new bass. I'd say I'm an intermediate player with some less-than-ideal habits, as I've completely relied on apps like Yousician. But I'm considering face-to-face guitar lessons as I'd like to up my game.
So far I'm mostly drawn to the Yamaha SR premium series (like an SR2605, or cheaper models) and Dingwall Combustion/NG guitars. Mostly due to their aesthetics more than anything else. I also quite like the "Dingwall sound", particularly in a djent/prog metal context. But the Ibanez's are a lot cheaper and possibly better built? (Japanese mass production vs a boutique brand)
Edit: can someone also recommend me a really good metal/djent biased compact bass amp for 200-300 USD/GBP?
For the better part of 2021, I was strongly considering buying a Strandberg prog 5 bass, more for the ergnomics and comfort. However lately, having seen Lee Sklar's Dingwall playthrough I'm seriously on the wall now, wanting a Dingwall Combustion NG3.
Are Dingwall's as comfortable to play as the Strandberg's? Is the 37" scale B string worth it?
If you had to choose, which one would it be?
The Strandberg Prog 5 or the Dingwall Combustion NG3?
Currently not too inspired by my 5 string NG3 and I mainly play 4 strings in my band. Is there any reason I shouldn't try a 6 string?
I'm considering buying a 6-string Dingwall, and I'm looking to hear some opinions. I mostly play metal, and I like my current 4-string Spector, but the stuff I want play/record requires more strings, and I want to start learning two-handed tapping.
A lot of tapping bassists seem to really like the Dingwall ABZ, but it's currently out of my price range. The NG also seems really good, but how big is the difference, aside from the specs you can read about?
The nearest Dingwall retailer is about 400 miles away. It's not really an option to go there, so I'm thinking of ordering a Dingwall anyway. If you've played one, especially both an ABZ and an NG, I'd love to hear your opinion.
I recently purchased a new Dingwall NG3 bass for my new band as the extra long scale length would be great for the drop G tuning were using. Well now that I have the bass I cant seem to find anywhere that sells the strings I need. I have used Rotosound practically since I started playing about 15 years ago and recently moved to Curt Mangan solely for the faster shipping time and custom gauge options. Dingwalls website directs to Kalium strings for any larger gauge strings. From what I've seen online and from my own experience I'd rather not go through them. I have a gig in early December and don't have time to wait on Kaliums slow shipping times.
In short, I am looking for stainless steel bass strings for a 37" scale length that are comparable to Rotosound or Curt Mangan that I can get shipped to me within a week.
Any suggestions?
Iβm looking at getting an NG2. Essentially just give me the pros and cons, the general feel (I know this is different for everyone) the general quality and tone, in your opinion. I mostly play a lot of metal, but I do some rock and jazz as well. Am I wasting my money?
I'm planning a bass build and I will be using pretty tight string spacing. I want to use a couple Dingwall FD-3N pickups for it. That's gonna be a problem if they use screw poles but not if they're bars. I can't seem to find the info anywhere. They're listed as soap bars but idk if that's definitely a bar style pup. Anybody know for sure?
As stated in the title i interviewed Sheldon Dingwall for my Podcast, Lost Signals. We talked a lot about basses, what his idea process is when designing and all sorts of other fun bass stuff. Check it out if you'd like!

Thanks for reading, and any feed back is welcome!
I like to sometimes record songs in drop G (GDGC) on a 34" scale bass with 130-65 5-string strings on it. It works well enough, but the low G is definitely a little wobbly for my liking. Just wondering if anyone has any experience down-tuning extra-long multi-scale basses because I have my eyes on a 4-string Dingwall. I'm thinking that the extra 3" on the low string should be enough to maintain tension down to G maybe with a set of 130-65 strings? I have no idea if it would work, and would like to see if anyone has done this before I blow $2299 CAD on a Dingwall.
Thanks!
I'm am wondering if anyone might be so kind as to trace their square-pickup Dingwall NG2 pick guard and send it to me?
I'm currently rocking a 5-string Combustion (2015) and was hoping to order a custom pickguard based on the shape of the NG2 guard. This would allow me to move the neck pickup back a couple inches, but want to keep the original guard in case I ever change my mind. I haven't had any luck finding existing inventory anywhere now that the Combustions and NG2/3's have rounded pickups, so I'm hoping the internet can help me out! Thanks!
I left the shop with it - holy sh*t this bass sounds like nothing I've played before.
Fanned frets have taken some getting used to, but I've fallen In love with it. Anyone else played with the combustion series?
Iβm looking for some advice on how to get my bass setup well for drop A. Iβve got a dingwall ng2 and the b string becomes very floppy and unclear when tuned down to a. Does anyone know of a string set besides kaliums that has a regular gauge top four strings and a heavy bottom string for long scale? Additionally any advice on how my bass should be set up would be appreciated.
Has anyone here installed one of these on a 5 string Dingwall Combustion(to replace the B string tuner)? Wanted to ask y'all fine folk before emailing Dingwall support. I am assuming it'll be the 3/8" Ultralite model, just wanted to double check to he sure. Couldn't find any info via forum posts/talkbass.
Thanks!
Iβm in search of oem Dingwall NG2/NG3 pickguards (all string variations). If you replaced yours but have your stock OEM pickguard, please message me. Iβm trying to put together a template library so I can start making Dingwall pickguards. I can pay to ship your pickguard to me and back to you if you want to keep it.
Any help would be appreciated!
I'm looking to get myself a really nice 5 string, and after trying a Combustion 5 in person, I knew right away Dingwall was the way to go, but I just recently discovered the D-Roc Hellboy. Has anyone played one of and/or both and have any opinions? I was looking at NGs but I didn't really like the colour options they have atm.
I am interested in custom ordering a Dingwall bass but I can't find an official looking price list. Does anyone know how much it would cost for a Z-series Dingwall bass if I were to get something close to the stock model? Thanks
