A list of puns related to "Shaun Dingwall"
Hey, everyone!
My name's Barry and I'm currently on my first binge-watch of Doctor Who (2005), up to Season 10. Once I finish the Moffat era, I'll make a couple posts documenting some of my more longform thoughts on the series as a whole, (since the Chibnall/Whittaker era is still going so it feels weirder to comment on those,) but for now, there are a few episodes that I have much more nuanced thoughts on. Episodes that I think wouldn't fit into the posts that I'm planning, since I have too much to say.
The first one of these is Father's Day, the eighth episode of the first season, written by Paul Cornell (known for The Family of Blood) and starring Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor.
Some of my favorite episodes tend to be really good character episodes, where characterization is the main focus, with adequate to excellent science fiction in the background or as the framing device. Take, for instance, A Christmas Carol, which is entirely dedicated to focusing on the villain and his motivation, with the audience's sympathy (ideally) being built up over the course of the episode until we've seen enough of his life to fully understand him emotionally, and be invested in his character growth. Really good character episode, with adequate science fiction that takes a background role.
Father's Day, comparatively, is a brilliant character episode... with really crappy science fiction.
The episode begins with a flashback to when Rose was a child and Jackie (her mother) showing her a photobook of her father, Pete, played by Shaun Dingwall, and explaining how good of a man he was, and his untimely death at the hands of a car. Jackie explains how no one was there for him when he died, he was just alone, on the street, bleeding out.
We then see present-day Rose, presumably having explained all of this to the Doctor, asking if she can go to that day, the 7th of November 1987, and be with him as he dies.
The Doctor agrees, saying "your wish is my command" and giving Rose a sense of autonomy. However, when the moment comes and Pete Tyler gets struck by the car, now with Rose there to see it in-person, she freezes, and then runs away, ashamed that she wasn't able to be there for him, and we see her ask if she can try again. Then, we see that, while the Doctor and Rose were standing there frozen, the future Doctor and Rose were just behind them, waiting to give Rose a second chance once they left... but Rose runs out, saves Pete's life, and the first

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
This was written by Russell T Davies and it was from after Doomsday and before The Runaway Bride were broadcast, and the issue looked back on the Series Two finale, Doomsday. The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, which interviews cast members from Series 13, is on sale now.

##Companion Piece
Right from the start of Series Two, we knew that we had to write out Rose Tyler, and introduce a new companion - to use that opportunity to show the new audience the full, proper format of Doctor Who, first established way back in The Dalek Invasion of Earth, when the Doctor's granddaughter, Susan, left the crew; that life changes, the TARDIS changes, that the Doctor remains constant while his fellow travellers come and go.
To be honest, writing out Rose was the easy bit! Yes, we're so sad to see Billie go, but at the same time, there's an excitement about change. For Billie and for us. I'd known from the very start of Series One how to separate the two time-travellers, stranded in two separate universes, and with the contracts for Camille, Noel and Shaun Dingwall locked into place for Series Two... well, all we had to do was write it!
But the new companion? My immediate decision was that there would be two. A one-off Bride, to really hammer home the coming-and-going notion, and to take the curse off the tag of 'the New Girl', and then a proper, full-time replacement, to launch Series Three. That's the fiction side of it, but on the production side, there was another dictate - to cast a Great Big Talented Name as the Bride, to draw people both into Christmas, and into the 'new' format. And then, to replace Billie with... well, a complete unknown. (Terrible phrase, 'unknown', I'm deliberately using industry-speak - Freema's done all sorts of work in many different shows, and there must be lots of people who know her very well!) All of us, all the way up to Jane Tranter, instinctively said the same thing: it's got to be someone new. Billie Pipers are rare, if not unique, and any other young actor with a bit of a profile would have seemed, well, a bit Second Hand Rose. And besides, it's part of our job to discover new talent. The role of the Doctor's new companion could give someone a massive,

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
