April 23: a troop commanded by Pánfilo de Narváez, sent by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar against Hernán Cortés, lands in Mexico. It was beaten on June 4 by Cortés in Cempoala.

Pánfilo de Narváez receives the order from Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, the governor of the island of Cuba, to arrest Hernán Cortés in Mexico and to take command himself. On April 20, Narváez landed at Veracruz with 19 ships, over 1,000 men and 60 horses.
