A list of puns related to "Diabetic Coma"
Thread in question: https://www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/comments/rh8vas/what_have_i_missed_after_waking_from_a_coma/
I've been watching that thread unfold over the last few days and I can't help but think of the Brain Cancer AMA Award Bandit of yesteryear: https://old.reddit.com/r/AMA/comments/hhjch7/im_a_14_year_who_has_brain_cancer_and_is_going_to/
Most people are eager to enlighten OP, with all kinds of useful information and helpful advice... awards are stacking up - and then a wild medical doctor appears:
Drama ensues. And more medical professionals chime in to call bullshit.
Enjoy.
ETA: Sorry for the title gore.
I haven't heard much from my family. The hospital is running a bunch of tests currently. My grandfather says it does not look good and, as I'm out of state, suggested I come back quickly. I don't know how long she was unconscious before she was found by my step father, but as he was working it's probably at least an hour.
Genuinely and honestly, what should I expect to happen next? I'm thinking that she might die, but if not, she has already suffered brain damage and most likely will never be the same again.
Feel free to remove from here. My brain is fried, I'm a little drunk, but I can't think of another subreddit.
My cat hasnβt eaten in almost two weeks and stopped drinking water a few days ago. His energy is so low, he can barely lift his little head. Heβs struggling to breathe and clearly (at least to me) suffering. I want to make this as easy as possible on him. Heβs already diabetic and I have lots of insulin on hand. Would it alleviate suffering to give him too much, or would that be incredibly stupid and cause him more harm? It breaks my heart seeing him like this.
Edit.. A vet is not possible. I live in a village in Eastern Europe and donβt speak the language.
Itβs almost midnight. Closest 24 hour vet is 2.5 hours away and I donβt have a car.
Regardless, he will likely die tonight/early morning. Iβm only trying to think of what is possible to make it as easy on him as possible.
I was simply thinking insulin OD would be better than suffocating to death as seems to be happening suddenly.
Steak-out, you're the real MVP.
So a couple weeks ago I started to experience symptoms like extreme thirst, frequent urination, and drowsiness.
This last Saturday I go and get my blood drawn for them to run the numbers.
Today I got a call from my doctor telling me that my numbers are very high and they need me to come into the office tomorrow so that we can get me on medication as soon as possible.
For the first few hours after the call I felt I was handling it very well. I also have a history of anxiety attacks and was surprised that I didn't have any.
But about 20 minutes ago I remembered something that now has me very worried. My uncle (no relation just a family friend) was a diabetic and fell into a diabetic coma in his home and his wife found him about 10 minutes later.
I live alone. If I were to say fall into a diabetic coma it would be several hours before anyone realized something was wrong, like my coworkers realizing I didn't show up for work.
From my understanding someone who has fallen into a diabetic coma can recover if they are found within a short time, but anything beyond an hour or two could result in severe brain damage and death.
So I guess when I'm asking is, are there any telltale signs that you're about to fall into a diabetic coma. Some sort of warning sign that tells me to get out my phone and dial 911 or try to make it out the front door of my apartment so that if I do fall into a coma people can see me and get me help as soon as possible.
At what BG levels do we start to be at risk of suffering from a Diabetic Coma? And for how long?
I just thought back to when I got diagnosed as a type 1. It was after I thought I was diagnosed with a concussion I drank about a gallon of sunnyD because of my thirst and the weird taste a high blood sugar could cause I was at 37.0 (canadian measurement). later I fell into a coma when I woke up I was still extremely thirsty but had 2 iv's in me and could barely move. So I asked for water and they said they couldn't give me any liquids and the best they could do was give me a tiny wet sponge to moisten my mouth. it got so bad I was begging everyone I saw for water but they all were told I can't have anything. Why is that?
TL/DR: After diabetic coma I could only have a sponge to moisten my mouth why?
Can't even self soothe with a binge because apparently it might literally kill me ππ€ππ€ππ€life is a fucking joke. Fuck adult onset diabetes???? Fuuuuuuckkkkk mmmeeeeee.

There once was a cashier named Jenny
who sold Smarties, eighteen for a penny
and I love that brand
so I paid a grand
but I fear that was just one too many.
This is a short one, but it's so ridiculous I couldn't resist sharing.
So there's this friend of a friend, I don't know the guy well, but I know he's about 350ish pounds (158 kg). He's been trying to lose weight to get some much needed back surgery, but his back is fucked up from being so overweight, so exercise is hard. Blah blah blah.
Recently, my friend was trying to get in touch with him to ask him some work related stuff, only to find out that he was in the hospital in a diabetic coma. Apparently his blood sugar was over 800. I, knowing nothing about diabetes or blood sugar levels, tried to look into how high that was. Well...let's just say I couldn't find a chart that listed anything higher than 300. Basically the guy should be dead.
After he woke up, my friend called to talk to him, and as they got to chatting he basically asked him, "Hey how the hell did you manage that?"
So the guy tells him he drank 4 of the Sonic Route 44 slushes per day, plus a 12 pack of Gatorade. I looked up the nutrition info, ONE Route 44 slush has over 160g of sugar. ONE 16 oz Gatorade has 26g of sugar.
THAT'S ALMOST 1000g OF SUGAR PER DAY JUST FROM DRINKS. THIS DIABETIC MAN DRANK ALMOST 1000g OF SUGAR PER DAY.
Just for some context, since that's such an incomprehensible figure, that's equivalent to around 2 pounds of sugar every day. Just in the drinks. We're in the US so I know he was eating another 30-40g of sugar at least.
I can't conceive of behavior like that in any other context than a hard core addict. I mean, as a diabetic the man had to know he was killing himself. Yet he kept on going. It's just unbelievable to me.
I woke up to a weird noise (it was her tongue in the back of her through) and discovered my mom in a diabetic coma yesterday. Iβm having a hard time. EMTs were able to get her conscious again and she fully came to in the hospital. She was diagnosed with hypothermia too.
I guess Iβm wondering how bad that is? Obviously I know itβs bad, but did my mom almost die? Iβm not looking for medical advice per se, more I guess anecdotal? Have other people gone through this? And I making a big deal out of something relatively common?
ETA: you guys are right, she was hypoglycemic rather than hyper. Diabetic coma was something the hospital said, though Iβm not really sure who said it and they could have mispoken! Sorry for the misuse of the term on my part!
