A list of puns related to "Emphysema"
This is for you Simon.
Heβs 26 year old. Heavy smoker. Heβs in the ER right now. They did a chest X-ray on him but they want to do more scans. I canβt be in there cause of Covid to ask questions and the doctor isnβt giving him much information. What can I do to help my husband??
Whatβs the life expectancy if we stop the smoking now. Is 10-20 years to live unusual and rare for an emphysema patient?
Lung transplant, can we do that? Can I give him a lung if Iβm a match? Just in panic mode Any information helps.
Thank you!!
Editβ To be clear Dr came in said he has emphysema and walked out with not much information to share. Itβs not me assuming he has emphysema. It was a diagnosis from the doctor from his cxr
Good morning everyone. I have a few questions if you don't mind since I am worried. My mum will be 51 this year and she got diagnosed yesterday. She has been a heavy smoker all her life. She said she's going to try quit, but she's still going to be around second hand smoke (long family drama). Her kidneys are also shrinking, so we have a screening next month for that too.
This is my fifth year of getting chest ct scan as part of lung cancer screening. A finding: Bullous emphysematous disease present. Few scattered curvlinear parenchymal densities throughout the lungs.
So it that a type of readout that may be subject to a false finding?
Guess time will tell.
My dad from Australia has diabetes, emphysema, is overweight, unfit and and alcoholic. He believes the vaccine is a conspiracy to kill the world. He believes man made climate change is a hoax and this is all in the bible. The devils is taking over the world. Trump was our saviour. I'm 36 years old and this man controlled my mind as a kid with all his beliefs. I have only just been able to shake him off from my mind recently. Emotional abuse from a child has long lasting effects. I would like people to comment back on this with some funny shit on their thoughts on this crazy wanker to help me laugh about it all. Cheers
Asking out of interest, has anyone had experience of themselves of a colleague being diagnosed with emphysema in their lab.
I'm in the UK and just been diagnosed, don't smoke, no genetic link, it's not my arthritis drugs apparently but there is a tenuous link to benzenes such as xylene.
(sorry should have put my friend is borrowing my account for this!)
I have had breathing problems and was just diagnosed with emphysema. Iβm a HC and doesnβt seem like my position ( or any position ) would fit my Loweβs career. Very saddened by this as I really love my job. Iβve been back just 2 days abs the panting and huffing and puffing and using inhalers every few hours doesnβt help. Any ideas? Thank you
I went in for a CT scan of my neck yesterday and the report finds that I don't have what they were checking for but, oh by the way, I do have "apical emphysema".
I presume it's described as apical because the targeted area would have included just the very top of my lungs but what I'm wondering is what I should expect now? A lung CT? FEV testing?
I expect I'll hear from my provider Monday but this was so out of the blue I'm just feeling overwhelmed. Thanks for any info!
So this post is not about me but my mother, we donβt talk about her illness that much so please excuse the lack of information.
My mother is 56, about 1,65cm height, weighs about 55 kilos and has been diagnosed with the emphysema for about 10 years.
She is still active, walks the dog everyday and goes on hikes so Iβm guessing the emphysema canβt be that far along. After her diagnosis she stopped talking about it to us.
My father is unvaccinated because he is an idiot, just throwing it in there. About 3 days ago my mother experienced some symptoms, they are getting worse each day. She has a headache, her nose is rubbing, she is coughing and she has a very high pulse , about 120 sitting down.
So with my mother having the emphysema and my father being unvaccinated, what can I expect? What are the risks and what do I have to prepare myself and my sisters for?
If you need any I do please let me k ow!
Hi, I am 29F, Caucasian, 110 lbs/ 5'4", diagnosed with Autism, Schizoaffective Disorder, Epilepsy (nonspecific), and a handful of other useless but interesting oddities. I have smoked about a pack of cigarettes per day for about ten years, with the addition of oodles of marijuana on top of that habit for about the same duration. I quit smoking everything forever, ever again, four days ago (it's awful), because at a routine appointment with my GP, I was informed that I likely had emphysema. EMPHYSEMA. This should surprise me less considering my maternal grandma's cause of death was related to COPD and she was on oxygen for years before her death. Still, I'm surprised, especially because I'm young. Unfortunately solid results were impossible at the moment (my breathing was so poor I was unable to perform the pulmonary function tests properly), and I go back in for more tests next week to confirm the diagnosis. Now, I've had chronic bronchitis for a while, and this just ruins everything even more I think. I know little enough about emphysema but a quick Google search showed me that the average life expectancy from diagnosis is five years?! Please, someone tell me that, at least considering my relative youth and the fact I quit smoking (at last) might pad that number a bit?
What am I supposed to do now?
My 4 year old cat got her teeth cleaned a couple of days ago. She can be quite unruly when scared so they told me instead of giving IV fluids they gave subcutaneous fluids. Sheβs eating very small amounts of wet food, is urinating a little, and is hoarse from the procedure but otherwise seems to be okay. Today I noticed a ton of crepitus and swelling, specifically over the rib region L>R and itβs even on the top of her head, neck, etc. The vet told us to bring her in and they gave her a PCN shot. How serious can this be if itβs all over her body? Is there anything I can do to help? Is it painful? Iβm worried :(
The dude has the unhealthiest lifestyle. Which ailments do you reckon will hit him first?
The guy has reached 30, and the health of youth starts to dwindle unless you continue living reasonably healthy.
I just got diagnosed with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Now that it's on my mind, I noticed that my breath is really shallow. I'm 25 years old and I've stopped smoking for a week. There's nothing else the doctor said other than "Quit smoking ASAP". Judging by the tone of his voice, it sounded pretty serious. I asked him again if it's a serious condition, he replied "Just quit smoking".

I would love her to decide to quit smoking on her own, for her own reasons. We quit drinking together 17 days ago and it's been difficult at times but great for our relationship. But I feel like asking her to quit smoking with me will add tension, resentment, and it just isn't realistic or fair because people who don't want to quit will have a harder time being successful. The counsellor wont drop it and I keep telling her I dont expect it from her or anybody else. We dont smoke in the house or the car, so it's not like I'm being exposed to second hand smoke. I will just have to deal with cigaretted being around and seeing other people smoke. And such is life. What do yall think?
I'm 20 years old & have been smoking a LOT of weed, tobacco, blunts vape everything under the sun since I was 15. I've recently been diagnosed with mild emphysema & bronchitis (COPD) but it feels a lot worse than they say it is. Yawning & struggling to get air in & dyspnea when doing exercise are some things I suffer from badly . I started experiencing these symptoms over a year ago & was unable to get diagnosed until last month as all my x rays, CT scans, lung function tests & spirometry's appeared normal. It was only because I paid a lot of money to see a very good lung specialist & that they were able to see a few abnormalities on a CT scan because the machine was brand new. My lung function tests were still normal. I've been reassured that I'm okay & that my medication will help but if anything my breathing is worse. I should note that I don't suffer from wheezing or coughing. It is very unusual for someone of my age to be diagnosed with copd & is part of the reason I was undiagnosed for over a year as the doctors were just over looking me. people close to me also thought it was all in my head because nothing would show up on the scans and tests which made me very depressed.
Is there any medication that anyone has seen a noticeable difference in their shortness of breath? I am currently taking Relvar Ellipta, Oxis turbohaler & a brown preventer inhaler but it doesn't really help. I have also taken a number of other medications to no avail.
I am also open to any questions you may have.
25 years and have Emphysema... will I be able to see my child grow and beyond?
Hi! Iβm 25 years old and when I was 24 years old I had a Spontaneous Pneumothorax which would not heal, therefore had a CT scan which confirmed I have very mild upper lobe emphysema with multiple small blebs. This resulted in me having a blebectomy and pleural abrasion to stop the recurrence.
I have been tested for AATD and my Alpha-1 levels are within normal range of that of a normal person. I have mild symptoms such as very little phlegm and thatβs it. I get out of breath on heavy exertion but have never been very active in my life (this has started to change recently with my Gym membership and personal trainer).
By my research I think I have gotten this disease to smoking cannabis since the age of 17 which I believe to exaggerate the process because of smoking without filter tips. Although I believe any smoke will cause damage, Iβm sure smoking without a filter too will cause more.
I was smoking for 6 months after my surgery and now happy to say Iβve quit 3 months ago and will never return.
Iβve spoken to a few doctors and some say that if It havenβt been classed as COPD (which I havenβt) then it may never show or progress, which I find strange due to the progressive nature of the disease.
Iβve been looking at studies online and some say when the disease is caught in the mild stages or GOLD stage 0-2 then lung function will continue to decline that of a normal rate of a non-smoker. Others say the if symptoms are present then they decline faster at GOLD stage 0 than that of asymptotic people, another says if one has both symptoms I.e cough and phlegm progress faster than those with only one.
Iβve also read that in the very early stages of Chronic Bronchitis, it can be reversed due to hardening of the walls may not be present therefore inflammation can subside with smoking cessation (which I hope is the case with me). I assume I have Chronic Bronchitis because Iβve had very slight phlegm without a cough for 2 years nearly. I say without a cough but I do cough voluntary to try and clear my throat, which normally doesnβt work (I feel like itβs the same phlegm from a year ago π).
Iβm finally having a spirometry test to see what stage that I am at, I honestly believe I am in GOLD Stage 0 or pre-COPD due to my age and recent CT diagnosis, I hit 620 on my forced peak airflow test at home which I believe to be around normal for my age.
If someone could elaborate on this bec
