A list of puns related to "Deck Department"
Iβm trying to get bids to build a composite deck in Denver County, 3 reputable deck contractors so far have turned down the project telling me Denver Building Department is impossible to work with and itβs not worth their time. One told me theyβd only do it if we donβt pull permits. Anyone seen this? Have insight (or a good deck contractor? lol)
In this post Anki decks based on US Department of Defense resources have been presented here. The links to the decks are dead now. Does anyone still have decks?
Hey everyone, Iβm a JO about to report to an LHD in a little while, and I just found out I was going to be in deck department. I did my first tour as Auxo on a CG. What exactly does deck entail on a big deck? I know that most stuff is pretty similar to deck on a small boy, but what other responsibilities are lumped in? Thanks!

Hi I'm currently enrolled in BS Maritime Transportations and as stated in the title, I have a black birthmark in my forehead about 1 inch in width. Does maritime companies care about that????
We had just gotten back from a month long underway and I spent that time painting the ship. We pull into port on a Friday and we can't go home until the flight deck is sanded and primed. So the locker on the ship where we store all of our pneumatic air tools and hoses. The flight deck is all the way at the rear of the ship. This destroyer is 500 ft long to get from the front to back you have to go up and down ladders and through watertight doors. I get to the flight deck with my air hoses and sander, I start to sand and the sander stops as soon as it makes contact with the ship. Okay I'll go grab another sander. Round two same result. Okay it must be the air hose, I'll swap out the hose. Round three Go get a hose and get the same result. Okay maybe I got two bad sanders? Round four and it still won't work. I don't say a word I walk to the edge of the ship and proceed to throw all of the non working tools into the ocean, then leave the ship and go home. Nobody says a word or ttys to stop me. I come in Monday and we have brand new equipment and nobody ever spoke about it again.
Despite a massive surge in pedestrians and cyclists using MLK Drive during the past year the city is trying to give them the smallest accommodations in the re-decking plan for MLK Drive Bridge.
As most already know, MLK Drive has been closed to autos for the past year to give more outdoor space for people to run, bike, and relax along the river in a peaceful and socially distanced way. While this has been hugely popular it is likely that MLK Drive is eventually going to re-open to cars once the pandemic ends. This has been met with resistance from residents who have been calling for the city to reimagine the MLK Drive in a way that reserves the space for pedestrians and cyclists - permanently. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia along with over 5,000 residents have petitioned the city to do just that and it's apparently being ignored.
The MLK Drive Bridge, which connects the southern end of MLK Drive with the Art Museum and Eakins Oval is going to get a new deck. The existing deck needs to be replaced and the bridge structure needs maintenance. The bridge's vehicle weight limit was reduced sometime around 2016 from 33 tons to just 3 tons. The plan isn't to replace the entire bridge and the city is limited on how wide the new deck can be since the underlying structure is going to remain.
This project is expected to start in 2022 and take 2 years to complete while being closed to all traffic for the duration. Streets Department has gone ahead and drawn up plans for the $12MM project which widens the overall deck by about 5 feet and maintains the same auto lane configuration, which is 2 lanes southbound and 1 lane northbound.
The extra 5 feet in width is planned to go to a combined pedestrian and cyclist sidewalk, which is going to be only 10.5 feet wide. This is better than it is now, an unprotected 5 foot wide pedestrian-only sidewalk, but only in a very minor way. The current layout is an example of hostile design, where the pedestrian experience was intentionally made to be uncomfortable. In this redecking plan, the city has the opportunity to correct (at no extra cost) for the mistakes it made in the past. Despite knowing that a 10.5 foot wide sidewalk is not going to be wide enough for all users, that is what the city is planning. Separated pedestrian and bike lanes wo

Here's a side project I've been working on since I didn't see the DLI content anywhere people had posted links to resources for learning Kurmanji.
The Defense Language Institute are the people responsible for teaching various languages to the DoD and others in the US gov't. The content seems to be based on a post-Saddam, pre-ISIS Iraq so expect any dialect or culture references to reflect that. These decks include basics like pleasantries, colors, and asking directions, as well as some substantial military vocabulary. Everything from ranks, to names of weapons, to phrases like "Load the rifle!" It's nothing on par with Rosetta Stone but I'm hoping someone will find it useful.
If you've never used Anki before, it's a program for virtual flashcards that uses a spaced repetition algorithm for scheduling reviews. It can be used to make flashcards for anything but language learners like it a lot. It's quite popular with /r/languagelearning and it's free and open source. Download it here: http://ankisrs.net/ If you run linux, it's in your repo.
The first deck is over 1000 cards (plus reverse cards) with pictures and audio. Some of the cards have notes about usage, synonyms, or about Kurdish culture (which may or may not actually be irrelevant, outdated, or reductionist but I erred on the side of keeping information). Most of the images are pretty lousy but they should be helpful.
The second deck is more basic. 750 cards (plus reverse cards), all with audio but no images or notes. There's some overlap in content with the first deck but there's plenty of new stuff too.
You can download them at these two links. https://mega.nz/#!BAEQyBTK!3Us3vj7onJo5jbNCWErYqanDHQMwUT-mluwMG0J6Qjg

The second deck was easy but the first one had to have all of the information pulled from xml files so I'm sure there are some errors. Let me know if you find any. I also have a ton more where this came from but the formatting will make progress slow. There are dialogs, readings of news articles, and various other "Language Survival Kits". Most of files came from here. (That's a US gov't site.)
Apart from that, I'm also concerned that the order of presentation of content is not great for beginners. I'm working on a solution to that but it's more of a long-term thing. Do get in touch if you can help or if you have any other feedback.
