Facts:

Deanna is 3 years older than Boob, they both seemed to have a good and close relationship with their mother. Deanna and her daughter regularly spent time with Grandma Duggar and Boob at least knew his mom was working 25hrs a week doing laundry for his offspring.

Deann had Amy out of wedlock (gasp!) 2 years before Meech squeezed out precious golden child Trashua.

While Boob and Meech reproduced like rabbits and pretended it was all in the name of Jesus Christ, Deanna, who is religious as well albeit NOT IBLP had an on and off relationship with Amy's dad. I wonder if Boob ever rubbed that in her face. I suspect he did nothing but being the smug "happily married Christian" arsehole that he is. Deanna married Amy's dad when Amy was 19 but they divorced 9 years later in 2015.

In the meantime, JB built his own fundie empire by humping Meech not just on Mini Golf courses, and by turning his offspring into cash machines he controlled strictly. Amy got some time on the show, because the producers liked her, but in real life Amy's time with her cousins was restricted. She could not just "hang out" with her cousins, because JB thought of her as bad influence.

Regarding Deanna's relationship with her 19 nephews and nieces, it seems to be inexistent. Think of that, you are an aunt to 19 kids but there is no bond, no nothing.

What else do we know? Deanna allegedly likes WOACB, so gossip on her brother's fam, and while she is usually all about keeping her Social Media all "grandma", posting about spending time with her grandson and about Jesus, she went wild during and after the Trashua-trial. She was never a big contender in the messy Olympics, though as she seems not to be the kind of person to put it all out there.

Which is kind of sad, because she has seen it all. She has seen Boob grow into the cult leader that he is (yes, I dare say JB runs his family like a special division lf the IBLP).

I also assume that Deanna and JB had a falling out that resulted in her not being around the Dugglings, because I find it so strange that an aunt who lives nearby and is close with grandma and has a daughter in the same age range as the older Duggsons would not be involved in her nieces and nephews life at all.

Just pondering….

What does Deanna really think of JB and Mich, and the entire Duggar politbureau? Did Deanna resent her brother achieving tv success on a made up platform? Did Deanna ever have reservations about Amy being around Pest or JB? How did her relationship with grandma differ from Blobs relationship with grandma? Did Deanna feel that Grandma made excuses for things that went on at TTH? Was Deanna mad that Grandma was a laundry maid for a time? Is tater tot casserole on Deannas menu plan? Has Deanna ever just wanted to bitch slap Mich, or tell her to drop the ridiculous baby voice? Has Deanna ever profited financially from being Duggar related? Did Deanna grow up feeling that Blob was the golden child?

SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

Let me preface by saying I don't hate Troi's character, nor the decisions that she made in that particular episode.

That being said, I don't think she should have been put in charge of the bridge when there was a catastrophic failure aboard the ship.

This is because whilst she was a Lieutenant Commander, she was not a line officer and simply it was not her place to assume command.

A line officer is an officer who is specially trained toward combat and command; non line officers on the other hand are officers whose primary duties are in non combat specialties. In this case, with Troi being a psychologist, medical and healthcare.

Generally, a line officer will have precedence and authority over an officer who is not of the line regardless of their actual rank.

In plain English, they are the only ones allowed to command and so there may be situations where a lower ranked line officer, for example a Lieutenant, could give orders to an officer of a higher rank outside of this specialisation where it falls within their job description.

As Troi is a psychologist and her primary duty is to look after the mental health of the crew, this is what she would be expected to do assist in a medical capacity which might entail performing first aid, managing casualties or Critical Incident Stress Management depending on the situation.

Ro Laren by comparison is a line officer, specifically an unrestricted line officer, and whilst junior in rank to Troi, would have legally been responsible for the operation of the ship in place of the dead Lieutenant Munroe given that her primary role on board the Enterprise is command and navigation.

O'Brien, as a senior NCO would have known this and is wrong to suggest that Troi was in command purely on the basis of her rank.

It would actually seem that O'Brien is actually being manipulative since he didn't want to follow Ro's orders and leave the rest of the ship and crew to their fate and so insists that Troi, whom we learn is not a qualified Bridge Officer until a later episode, takes command in order to get a kinder outcome, which isn't necessarily best for the ship.

As the audience, we know that Picard and the others are alive and actively working to prevent the warp core breach and so actively support Troi giving them more time to achieve their goals, however this was risky as it could have quite easily been not been the case and resulted in greater loss of life.
