TIL A psychologist adopted a Chimpanzee and raised it alongside their own human baby boy, to see if the Chimp could grow up to behave/think like a human. Eventually the Chimp hit a cognitive wall and no amount of training or nurturing could overcome the fact that he was a Chimpanzee. smithsonianmag.com/smart-…

Does cognitive processing therapy require specific training?

I'm in the internship phase of my master's degree, and I have a patient who is dealing with some trauma and he may have PTSD. I know I'm not qualified to use something like EMDR or brainspotting, but could I use CPT?

Have questions about cognitive learning via video games? Join us Wed (9/8), 8-11 pm EDT for a live Q&A with FSU professor Dr. Walter Boot who will talk about visual cognition/training, cognitive consequences of video games, and more (while playing Sonic the Hedgehog).

Wednesday night (9/8), 8-11 pm EDT, FSU professor and cognitive psychologist Dr. Walter Boot will be the guest on Ask_a_Scientist_Gaming.

Dr. Boot has studied the cognitive consequences of video game play and what games can teach us about how people learn and acquire expertise. Some of this work has used commercial video games (e.g., Medal of Honor, Rise of Nations, Tetris), and some has used an extremely obscure video game designed by cognitive psychologists called Space Fortress. Disclaimer, since it was designed by cognitive psychologists, Space Fortress is a great research tool but no fun at all.

Through his involvement with the CREATE and ENHANCE centers, Wally’s current research is focused on designing technology to support the independence, productivity, health, safety, social connectedness, and quality of life of older people with and without cognitive impairment. He has a particular interest in understanding the potential of video games to support leisure among older adults.

If you can’t make the live stream, feel free to leave your question in the comments and we will get them answered. Then follow up with our YouTube channel where we will post the video.
