A list of puns related to "Calder"
Hey all, Expecting a boy in June. I think my husband and me have settled on Calder as a name. I believe it is traditionally pronounced Call-Der, and not with the super short A sound like in the word "cat", Cal-Der. I live in the US though. How would you pronounce it, US residents? It's not a common name here so not sure if everyone knows how it's pronounced
Thanks!
Edit: we wouldn't use a nickname, so no "Cal" issue there
Edit edit: thanks for the responses and insight! It's uncommon, but I heard it recently as a first name and just loved it. Our last name/husband's fam has strong ties to Scotland and we were intrigued with sticking with a Scottish name (tho as it was mentioned, I learned it's more common as a surname there!). Meaning was kinda cool too - turbulent river/stony river?
That is all.

She's the Dr. who answer the phone at the beginning, the head of NASA who isn't actually an astronomer and tells Kate and Randall not to say anything about the comet to anyone, and eventually "resigns in disgrace". Anyway, I think they made her an anesthesiologist as a metaphor for numbing the public of reality.
I saw many people disattisfied with how Calder ended up in the Wisdom of Crowds. I was wondering about how such a smart character ended up getting beaten so easily, but then I noticed how Calder has a fatal flaw to his character.
Unlike Glokta, who took the Union under his control and freed himself from Bayaz, ultimately it was Calder's fear of Bayaz that screwed him in the end. Calder was not hesitant to march his armies recklessly through mud to attack Rikke, who insulted Bayaz immediately before.
So yes, Calder is not just a flawless genius, he succumbed to his fears in the end.

Just need some quick input from cyclists who ride inbound along the Calder.
How safe is the stretch from Organ Pipes to Kings Rd? I'm planning a longer ride in the next little while and my plan is to use that stretch of the Calder to get into Taylors Lakes
Edit: I meant to say art Ross in the Norris spot. Apologies. Fox/hedman/carlsson (caps)
Each year since Nathan MacKinnon the forward who wins the Calder has recorded a hat trick.

Was just driving outbound around DFO, drove past what looked like approx. 6 methed out truckie drivers blocking the freeway, rolling at about 10km/h inbound blaring their horns.
For anyone interested, Nigel Calder will be doing a live zoom interview and a Q&A on January 6. Tickets here: woodenboat.org/ask-an-expert
