"But Latter-day Saints, with their testimony of prophecy and with the many evidences given in the scriptures, have long affirmed that Isaiah, son of Amoz, wrote the entire book of Isaiah."

>Some scholars seem to have a desire to do away with prophecy by placing the second half of Isaiah after the events described, making the mention of those events historical rather than prophetic. But Latter-day Saints, with their testimony of prophecy and with the many evidences given in the scriptures, have long affirmed that Isaiah, son of Amoz, wrote the entire book of Isaiah. In the Book of Mormon, Jacob, Nephi, Abinadi, and Jesus all quote from different parts of Isaiah, and each identifies the prophet by name. In their Gospels in the New Testament, Matthew, Luke, and John the Beloved do the same.4

>No matter what evidence is available in the scriptures or more from secular sources such as computer analysis, there will undoubtedly continue to be those who will try to set the prophecies of Isaiah aside because they feel Isaiah could not know such details in advance. In this they err twice: (1) they err in thinking that Isaiah did not write chapters 40–66, and (2) they err in thinking that prophets do not know such details. The words of God’s prophets invariably come to pass. -lds.org

1 THE VISION RECEIVED BY ISAIAH son of Amoz con-
cerning Judah and Jerusalem during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

     Hark you heaven, and earth give ear,
         for the Lord has spoken:
       I have sons whom I reared and brought up,
       but they have rebelled against me.
       The ox knows its owner
         and the ass its master's stall;
       but Israel, my own people,
       has no knowledge, no discernment.

     O sinful nation, people loaded with iniquity,
     race of evildoers, wanton destructive children
         who have deserted the Lord,
         spurned the Holy One of Israel
         and turned your backs on him.
       Where can you still be struck
         if you will be disloyal still?
         Your head is covered with sores,
         your body diseased;
     from head to foot there is not a sound spot in youβ€”
     nothing but bruises and weals and raw wounds
       which have not felt compress or bandage
         or soothing oil.
     Your country is desolate, your cities lie in ashes.
     Strangers devour your land before your eyes;
       it is desolate as Sodom in its overthrow.
         Only Zion is left,
       like a watchman's shelter in a vineyard,
       a shed in a field of cucumbers,
         a city well guarded.
     If the Lord of Hosts had not left us a remnant,
       we should soon have been like Sodom,
         no better than Gomorrah.

     Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom;
     attend, you people of Gomorrah, to the instructions of our God:
       Your countless sacrifices, what are they to me?
         says the Lord.
       I am sated with whole-offerings of rams
         and the fat of buffaloes;
       I have no desire for the blood of bulls,
         of sheep and of he-goats.
       Whenever you come to enter my presenceβ€”
       who asked you for this?
       No more shall you trample my courts.

                 so that your nakedness may be plain to see

              you made your yoke weigh heavy on the aged.
              You said then, 'I shall reign a queen for ever',
                 while you gave no thought to this
                    and did not consider how it would end.
                    Now therefore listen to this,
              you lover of luxury, carefree on your throne.
                    You say to yourself,

The Book of Isaiah, chapters 20 - 27
20 Sargon King of Assyria sent his commander-in-chief to Ashdod,
and he took it by storm. At that time the Lord said to Isaiah son of Amoz,
Come, strip the sackcloth from your waist and take your sandals off. He did
so, and went about naked and barefoot. The Lord said, my servant Isaiah
has gone naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a warning to
Egypt and Cush; just so shall the king of Assyria lead the captives of
Egypt and the exiles of Cush naked and barefoot, their buttocks shame-
fully exposed, young and old alike. All men shall be dismayed, their hopes
in Cush and their pride in Egypt humbled. On that day those who dwell
along the coast will say, So much for all our hopes on which we relied for
help and deliverance from the king of Assyria; what escape have we now?

21                      A wilderness: an oracle.

          Rough weather, advancing like a storm in the south,
          coming from the wilderness, from a land of terror!
            Grim is the vision shown to me:
          the traitor betrayed, the spoiler himself despoiled.
          Up, Elam; ups, Medes, to the siege,
               no time for weariness!
          At this my limbs writhe in anguish,
          I am gripped by pangs like a woman in labour.
          I am distraught past hearing, dazed past seeing,
          my mind reels, sudden convulsions seize me.

          The cool twilight I longed for has become a terror:
          the banquet is set out, the rugs are spread;
               they are eating and drinking β€”
          rise, princes, burnish your shields.
            For these were the words of the Lord to me:
            Go, post a watchman to report what he sees.
          He sees chariots, two-horsed chariots,
          riders on asses, riders on camels.
          He is alert, alert, always on the alert.
               Then the look-out cried:
          All day long I stand on the Lord's watch-tower
          and night after night I keep my station.
          See, there come men in a chariot, a two-horsed chariot.
               And a voice calls back:

The Book of Isaiah, chapters 32 - 35
32 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness
        and his rulers shall rule in justice,
        and a man shall be a refuge from the wind
           and a shelter from the tempest,
           or like runnels of water in dry ground,
     like the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.
       The eyes that can see will not be clouded,
        and the ears that can hear will listen;
        the anxious heart will understand and know,
     and the man who stammers will at once speak plain.
     The scoundrel will no longer be thought noble,
        nor the villain called a prince;
        for the scoundrel will speak like a scoundrel
        and will hatch evil in his heart;
           he is an imposter in all his actions,
        and in his words a liar even to the LORD;
           he starves the hungry of their food
           and refuses drink to the thirsty.
     The villain's ways are villainous
     and he devises infamous plans
     to ruin the poor with his lies
     and deny justice to the needy.
        But the man of noble mind forms noble designs
        and stands firm in his nobility.

        You women that live at ease, stand up
           and hear what I have to say.
     You young women without a care, mark my words.
     You have no cares now, but when the year is out, you will tremble,
     for the vintage will be over and no produce gathered in.
           You who are now at ease, be anxious;
           tremble, you who have no cares.
           Strip yourselves bare;
           put a cloth round your waists
           and beat your breasts
        for the pleasant fields and fruitful vines.
     On the soil of my people shall spring up thorns and briars,
     in every happy home and in the busy town,
     for the palace is forsaken and the crowded streets deserted;
     citadel and watch-tower are turned into open heath,

When my kids were young we were pretty faithful in getting up 15 minutes early for scriptures. Our goal was to read 10 verses. I just did the math and if we read 4 mornings a week, times 10 verses / day it would 8 weeks just to read the Isaiah filler the Smith put in the Book of Mormon.

New book claims that JFK = Lamb and Selassie = Lion in the retconned Isaiah prophecy

Here's an extended quotation from the last chapter of Great Mystery Philadelphia: An Urban Act of Magic by Ras Ben. The entire book is about retconning and anathema (erasure rather than change). On pages 290-297 he gets into the details that keep being discussed on this board:

In researching anomalies in the fabric of space-time and the continuity of time-lines, misnomers create confusion. To correctly comprehend what is being experienced with memories diverging from recorded history, one must first label this phenomena correctly β€” it should be called THE "PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT EFFECT" AND THE MANIPULATION OF HISTORIC AND PROPHETIC TIMELINES. Study the events of August 12, 1943 CD aboard the USS Eldridge off of Tinicum Island on the Delaware river. Study the lives of the key masterminds behind the technology β€” Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, and Jon von Neumann. Research the lives of Al Bielek and Duncan Cameron, the two crew members who were lost in the forty by forty space time hell hole during the Philadelphia Experiment and were pulled out at Montauk, Long Island forty years to the day later.

Study the Montauk project and the experiments conducted to manipulate the past and the human mind. Study the life of Stewart Swerdlow, a survivor of the Montauk experiments who recounts his experiences as a child subject being sent through the forty by forty space time hell hole. He claims he was sent on various missions, the most profound of which he claims β€” he was sent back to kill the Christ. Study the life of Preston Nichols, an electronic technician who claims to have worked at Montauk as an operator of a large scale 'delta t' scalar wave antennae β€” the next generation of Tesla coils.

Research the next wave of space-time manipulation β€” quantum computing. Be aware of the quantum reality paradigm and comprehend the nature of the one big potential called the omniverse. Research the manipulation technique of quantum entanglement and its effect on the continuity of one's space-time line. Not only will empowering oneself with this information help in explaining this phenomena clearly to others, it may inspire insight into ways to keep grounded and rooted in an organic time-line.

Isaiah Thomas' 2016-17 season is one of the most remarkable in NBA history

With players heights taken this offseason, Isaiah measured in at 5'8". What he was able to accomplish in the 2016-17 season despite the height disadvantage is one of the most incredible things in NBA history. Some highlights include:

-He averaged 28.9 PPG and 5.9 APG.

-He was an all-star and 2nd team all NBA.

-He finished 5th in MVP voting.

-On December 30th, he scored a career high 52 points, including 29 in the fourth to lead the Celtics to a win over the Heat. This set a franchise record for points in a quarter.

-In January, he averaged 32.9 PPG for the month, the third highest monthly average in Celtics franchise history behind Bird and Pierce. He would win Eastern Conference player of the month.

  • He scored 20+ points in 43 consecutive games, setting a franchise record.

-He finished the season with over 2,000 points, just the 6th Celtic to do so.

-One day before the postseason began, his sister tragically passed away in a car accident. He played in Game 1 of the first round the next day, scoring 33 points. The Celtics lost that game but won the series in 6 games over the Bulls.

-After attending his sister's funeral between the first and second round, he returned to Boston for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semis against the Wizards and finished with 33 points and 9 assists in a win.

-In Game 2 of that series, he scored 53 points in an overtime win. This was the second highest in Celtics franchise history behind John Havlicek, tied for the 14th highest of all time, and remains the most points any active player has scored in a playoff game.

-In Game 7 of that series, he scored 29 points and had 12 assists in a win, helping the Celtics advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

-He played the first two games of the ECF, but was then ruled out for the season with a hip injury. The Cavs eliminated the Celtics in 5 games.

Unfortunately, this hip injury and other nagging injuries have prevented him from reaching these heights again but this season will live forever in NBA lore.

🚨︎ report
Danny Ainge doesn’t get enough credit for refusing to pay Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford. Had he paid either of them big money, it would have wrecked the team’s cap. Instead, he went against the grain and moved off them at just the right time.

Being a good GM isn’t just about trading for good players. A lot of people called Sam Presti the GOAT because he traded for Melo and PG13 (he’s a good GM but for other reasons).

What actually makes a great GM is upending fan demand and moving off of players at the right time. The Patriots in the NFL do this really well. Danny Ainge has as well.

Meanwhile, guys like Daryl Morey operate sporadically. Not the mark of long term success.
