Did the Neo-Babylonian Empire conquer Egypt or make it a vassal state?

I was arguing with some biblical fundamentalist who were saying that the prophecy in Ezekiel of Babylon conquering Egypt was fulfilled because Babylon defeated Egypt at the battle of Carchemish. In which either Babylon conquered Egypt or made Egypt a client state this β€œfulfilling”the prophecy.

But I know from my history books I’ve read that Egypt maintained its independence. But can ask historians verify this? If possible can you include legitimate sources?

The Neo-Babylonian empire had an obsession with the ancient sumerian and akkadian cultures, one aspect of this is that they preserved old statues and artworks, excavated and rebuild temples, and studying old inscriptions, could any of that work be comparable to modern day archeology and restoration?

It's just funny to think of these very ancient people digging out buildings of an even more ancient civilization and doing things that would look familiar to modern day archeologists, it makes you think of how vast history is and how brief we are... so I wanna know if they were actually "ancient archeologists" or if I'm simply looking too much into it

The rise of the Neo-Babylonian Empire?

A pastor of a church I went to was teaching on Habakkuk 1:6-11 and he said that the Neo-Babylonians, in a span of 20 years, went from being nothing to being a dominating force in the ANE. He then implied that this was God’s doing in order for them to sake Judah and then ultimately revive the Jewish people to follow Yahweh and thus bring about great spiritual changes to Jews. This is obviously a theological claim and not a historical one.

My question is, what is the academic view of how (if it’s true) did the Neo-Babylonians get so powerful so quickly? What is the view of Habakkuk?

Title pretty much says it all. I can’t find any other instances of the Neo-Babylonian dynasty taking the elites of a subjugated culture into captivity (as they did with a small percentage of the population of Judah) rather than simply executing them.

The Extent of Babylonian and Median Cooperation in the Overthrow of the Neo Assyrian Empire

To what extent did these guys coordinate and/or fight alongside each other? Was it more of the Babylonians fighting them in one region and the Medes fighting in another, or was it a tighter alliance?

I come at this question from the perspective of biblical studies, with limited knowledge of the history (basically what the commentaries and what Wikipedia say). There are a number of passages in Isaiah that describe the Medes and sometimes the Elamites overthrowing Babylon, and I'm exploring the possibility that some of these passages may refer to Babylon when it was under the rule of the Assyriansβ€”thus the Medes (and Elamites) in league with the Babylonians to help them take Babylon.
