Iβve struggled with finding consistency in my productivity for the longest time. Over time, Iβve learned that consistency is best found through a simple, well-designed routine. There are very few consistency techniques as effective as the 15 Minute Routine. Itβs essentially a 3-step process that basically looks like this:
- At the beginning of each day, set a fixed amount of time you can dedicate to your work
- Set a goal for your progress in 15 minute increments
- If you complete your task ahead of schedule, move on to the next task until your total time runs out.
So often we set huge milestones and large timeframes, when instead a small (15 minute) window can push us work harder and faster. Iβve been wanting to read this book for years but I havenβt found the push through determination. This year, Iβm going to do it. Help me with some tunes?
Everyone knows Dickens, but for the most part I prefer his contemporary and sometimes rival Anthony Trollope. They are very different writers and Trollope set virtually all of his stories in upper middle and sometimes a middle class milieu but they look at church and political infighting and maneuvering and the social elements and consequences.
I find his novels both soothing and entertaining. While some are standard soap opera fare: Will our young hero resolve his money problems and marry the heiress? Will the rebellious daughter settle down with a good man? Most explore clashing priorities and convictions and follow the maneuvers and compromises, and the social mores that help or hinder these events.
His best known works are two series of inter-related stories-The Barsetshire novels which follow church politics with a number of comic interludes and the Palliser novels which follow the political fortunes of a couple of key characters. While the Barsetshire are more popular the Pallisers are my favorites.
Trollope also explored the lack of ethics in the business world in The Way We Love Now, looked kindly on the woes of those unable to remarry due to legal barriers in Dr. Wortle's School, and occasionally looked at the travails of impoverished gentry and clergy.
Highly readable, these are great books for passing a leisurely summer day or cold winter evening by a fire. If you have not read Trollope, give him a try.
