A list of puns related to "African Literature"
So my reading circle is preparing a necessary reads list, the focus is mostly political. I don't want it to end up mostly White European men from 100-200 years ago. Books, articles, even speeches are welcome.
So far what I got in mind so far is
I want to read some Samir Amin but I don't know where to start and I worry his books would be too inaccessible since his articles aren't so easy. Also no women writers come to mind and it's certainly a perspective I want to see more of.
Any recommendation is immensely appreciated!
Besides your typical Rumi and Murakami what are somethings from these cultures that I should be reading??
Iβve recently finished Things Fall Apart and really enjoyed it. I am now looking for more African novel recommendations.
I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to reading and I tend to only read the classics or βliteratureβ. So Iβm not just looking for any African novels that people like but something that would meet a certain βstandardβ. Obviously itβs very subjective but at a minimum, something with its own style/voice, with a good command of language/literary devices. I am not too concerned with subject matter, political leanings, etc. as long as it is written well and would potentially stand up against other works of classic literature.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
for my dissertation, I want to take on an ethnomusicological approach and analyse the use of music in Asian and/or African literature
I was initially brainstorming on the genre of hip hop and its transculturality between Asian and African-American communities, but I couldn't think of literature that deals with these themes
Does anyone have any recommendations for Asian and/or African literature in which music(ality), sound or (ritual) dance plays an important role?
thanks!!

In your opinion, what defines African American SF(more commonly known as Afrofuturism)? What differentiates this genre from Science Fiction and African American literature? How does AfAm SciFi react to the lived experiences of African Americans in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries? is there really a difference between the AASF, scifi, and African-American lit? Or is AASF just SciFi written by African-American writers. Feel free to sound off below!
I am writing my master's thesis connected to African Literature in the post-colonial era. My aim is to teach my students cultural and linguistic awareness through literature (I am an English teacher in Northern Europe). I have a quite wide knowledge of Ghanaian and Nigerian writers and the most well-known works from these countries, but I am missing works from other African countries. I would love a bigger variety. If you could suggest a book or a writer from anywhere in Africa then it would help me a lot.
Prof. Nicole Morris Johnson is teaching African American Lit this semester and there is only two people in the class :/ there needs to be at least two more people so the class can go on. the class is T/TH 11:10-12:25, so if you are able, please take this class!
Hey, I just read chinua achebes "things fall apart" and loved it. I read many books in my life, but realized that that was my first book by an african author.
Do you know other african authors, that you can reccomend? I would appreciate every suggestion, especially temporary books that focus on social structures ect
Edit: Wow thanks for your quick replies, you guys are the best!
I am looking for African-American literature that deal with this concept. I have currently read Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates and find the discussion of the "Dream" very interesting. Do you guys have any suggestions for books that deal with this or are similar to Coates' memoir?
Looking for book suggestions that are written by authors from developing countries. I'm not necessarily looking for diaspora stories or those set in the Third World by authors living in the developed West, but for stories by authors who really live in those regions, about those regions. I'm really interested in Third World literature ever since I took a class for it. We never read the stereotypical ones like Pablo Neruda, Junot Diaz, Gabriel GarcΓa MΓ‘rquez, etc. The stories and authors were really niche and I really appreciated them.
Hi all! I am a Tarot novice, who you can probably tell from the title, is Black. Do you all know of any books/literature/resources on the tarot written by Black people? I am aware there are a few decks out there created by Black people, but was wondering if there are any authors and/or tarot readers that are Black who have written about the Tarot. Thanks!
