We are pleased to announce the following position in Composition and Rhetoric at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL): “The English Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a specialist working at the intersections of digital writing and African American/BIPOC rhetorics and pedagogies for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level.”Candidates will be asked to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise undergraduate and MA theses as well as Ph.D. dissertations, and serve on graduate student committees. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in English, Composition & Rhetoric or a related field relevant to the position by August 2022, a strong publication record, and evidence of successful teaching. UNL’s Composition and Rhetoric program is shaped by a history of collaborative inquiry and community engaged practice (https://www.unl.edu/english/composition-and-rhetoric). We offer a student-driven, rhetorically rich first-year writing program and a number of advanced undergraduate courses in writing, rhetoric, literacy, and English education. We also oversee a teacher development program for graduate teaching assistants, the Writing Center (established in 1990), and the Nebraska Writing Project which is one of the original sites of the National Writing Project. At the graduate level, we administer a Certificate in the Teaching of Writing, contribute to a generalist M.A. in English, and advise doctoral students in the field as they develop their programs of study. UNL Graduate students in Rhetoric and Composition are provided a wide range of professional opportunities beyond teaching, including collaboration with faculty on writing program and writing center administration, community-based writing initiatives like Husker Writers and Nebraska Writers Collective, and a number of grant-related research and administrative projects. Inclusion and diversity are very important to me, as is integrity, equity and justice. My community has really come together in the last couple of weeks to make it known to the world that we will not stand by idly and that we must work together to end systemic racism. We must remain vigilant in our pursuit of a more just society.

What is the political climate like here? I know Nebraska is a conservative state. Is the community of Lincoln comfortable with remaining neutral or silent on these pressing matters?
