I'm looking for music thats folky, a bit jazzy, has beautiful vocals, and complicated rhythms and meter. Another element I love is non-conventional forms (like a blend between through composed and song form). I love complex music but not when it is too jarring or agitating. A great example of what I'm talking about is Mid-Air Thief. if you havent listened, you should. check out the song 'Swamp' and try to count through it/analyze the form.
I have been experiencing quite the dry spell music wise lately, so discovering some seriously exciting bops would really make my day! Let me know if you have any ideas / suggestions / questions. Thanks for reading! π
I was wondering why I loved "Paprika" from Japanese Breakfast so much and then it dawned on me....there is so much Sufjan on this track. Here's a mashup alongside Sufjan's "I Walked". It's not verse for verse though, some of the length was edited to fit where the melodies coincide. Also I Walked is tuned down three half steps to match Paprika. Paprika was sped up from it's original 120bpm to match I walked at 128.

The music industry thrives on two basic principles. Love exists, and love is broken. Countless pop artists have exploited the fleeting nature of their personal relationships, writing cloying love songs today and fiery breakup anthems tomorrow. What we rarely hear about in pop music are songs about the loneliness that comes in a world where love never lasts.
On his latest record Carrie and Lowell, Sufjan Stevensβs painfully earnest βAll of Me Wants All of Youβ is the sound of a man fatigued by broken love. Stevensβs relationship with his mother was like a hookup/breakup cycle on repeat, seeing her for a few intense days or weeks at a time only to lose her again for months and years. He wonders whether his motherβs terminal cancer is a blessing or a curse, quietly wavering, βShall we beat it or celebrate it?β Itβs the same question he asked as a child every time his mother abandoned him again. By her bedside in the waning moments of her life, he sings, βOn the sheet I see your horizon.β Even as he hugs her, βIβm just a ghost you walk right through.β Death slowly wrests the mother he wanted to love from his grasp one last time. Something in his soul wonβt let him let go. Stevens understands that his turmoil is not unique but universal: All love is broken, and yet our souls long for other souls.
Confusion about the nature of βAll of Me Wants All of Youβ has arisen surrounding a mysterious allusion in the first verse: βManelich, I feel so used.β Some have posited this is a moniker for a distant male lover. This obscure reference is a key element in understanding how Stevens sees his relationship with his mother Carrie. Most importantly, Stevens sees himself as Manelich, a man who must choose to love in the midst of terrible brokenness or give up altogether.

I like the simple instrumentation that feels like itβs taking me to space, and the whole chill/sad vibe. Iβve heard the rest of his music, but Iβm looking for song/album suggestions that fit the vibe of this song specifically. :)
Thanks!

Letβs get schwifty, Sujwifties!
Kia ora, and welcome to the 2010 High Concept Pop rate. u/steelstepladder and I are very excited to be hosting what is sure to be an exciting and highly competitive rate!
The three albums we will be exploring in these rates are all concept albums, that explore themes such as climate change, racism, and mental health through the lenses of characters living in either a dystopic far future world (Age of Adz, the Archandroid) or simply fictional characters in our real world (Plastic Beach). As an English major, I can say that often the best stories are ones that explore real-life themes explored through the lenses of a world that is unfamiliar to us. The disconnect from our real-life society is often enough for us to think of certain themes in a different context, and to reconsider previously held notions, especially in dystopian works where it encourages you to think critically about the circumstances that led to the world the characters are now living in, and how the decisions we make inform the world we will be living in tomorrow. Remember, critical thinking is hot girl shit <3
The fun thing about all three albums is that they all have their high energy, frenetic moments that r/popheads seem to love. All three have their inspiration from pop music, thus the βHigh Concept Popβ, even Sufjan whose usually remembered as βsad ukelele boyβ, but as you can tell from the write-up by the wonderful gucci.

10/28 - EDIT #2: Thank you to everyone who was able to get something and help me out! I'm able to take care of my rent and my band's practice space rent. The spreadsheet is updated with what's available still. I'm packing up orders paid today and shipping them out this afternoon. If you paid before today your order has been shipped and I've updated the paypal invoice with tracking info(sorry I'm a day late than what I promised)
Hey y'all! Trying to get these out of here by the end of the month.
Here's a google sheet of everything available.
Shipping is $5 minimum and +$1 for each record added // everything ships from Houston, TX as media mail(continental 48 US only) in sturdy vinyl record mailers with "fragile" labels. Although if you want the order sooner like 2-day or next-day I'm willing to work with you on the price for that. Payment only through paypal G&S please.
Prices are based on the lowest I saw of what's currently available on discogs for similar condition, most I rounded down 5ish dollars (I'm definitely open to offers on bundles or free shipping or whatever!)
All come with outer sleeves(except one which is specified). If condition is VG+ then it was purchased new by me and was opened and put straight into an outer sleeve with the record slid behind the cover. All VG+ records are in basically new condition and maybe only played once or twice if the notes do not specifically mention "never played". Anything other than VG+ I purchased used.
Feel free to DM* me any offers, I'll try to get back as soon as possible!
*edit: (sorry, this is my first sale post here) As per community guidelines, I'll need anyone interested to comment here after PM'ing me or I won't respond.
Selling off some more of the random ignored or duplicate stuff from my collection...
Shipping is $3 in CONUS, anywhere else hit me up and we can figure it out.
Will go out within a day, at most 2 days, I try to be fairly quick about it and pack the records very well.
$15 NM/NM SufjanStevens/Angelo De Augustine-A Beginners Mind
Indy store gold version. I forgot I preordered the rough trade limited so I have 2 now. Every pressing of this (I've heard 3 so far, Black, this one and the yellow RT) have slight surface noise. However I need to say that my set up is extremely (and annoyingly) sensitive and picks up EVERYTHING. So slight surface noise for me is basically nothing to other set ups. Just putting that out there. It's barely noticeable in the very quiet spots. This one is perfect and still in shrink. Still has unused download card.
$15 NM/NM Jason Lytle- Dept Of Disappearance
Pretty much perfect all around.
$15 NM/NM Grandaddy-Last Place
Also pretty much perfect all around and never listened to.
$22 NM/NM Rockabye Baby-Lullaby Renditions-of-Tom-Petty
Kinda cool album I got for my son as a baby. Still in shrink. Perfect all around.
$25 NM/NM Future Islands-As Long As You Are
VMP Light Blue Numbered version. Played the day I got it and never touched again. Perfect all around. Still in VMP shrink.
$45 NM/NM Galaxy80- Visions Neon Green Limited
Only 1 for sale on discogs... It's a fantastic chillwave album that came out in April. This one is pristine. Barely played, I usually just stream this one.
[SOLD] NM/NM Magic Sword- Endless](https://www.discogs.com/release/14958085-Magic-Sword-Endless)
Perfect all around. Empress Blue Vinyl. The second time I spun this was right now posting it.
[SOLD] VG+/VG+ Bright Eyes-Im Wide Awake Its Morning](https://www.discogs.com/release/9331175-Bright-Eyes-Im-Wide-Awake-Its-Morning)
2016 RE and Remaster. In great condition. Clean vinyl and straight jacket, however no obi and slight surface noise in the really qui
