Memphis and the social stigma of being unmarried in your 30s

It’s pretty obvious that Hamza is just a body and object to serve Memphis’s ridiculous self loathing for being unmarried. She feels the stigma of being unmarried even though it’s an absurd stigma that she doesn’t have to subscribe to. If she loved herself she would be ok being single until the right man comes into her life. I mean how can a 25 year old man with no English skills be a father to 2 kids, love her, be great in bed, and provide ? That shit takes time.

Memphis it’s ok to be single. Focus on you and your family instead of chasing a free mail order groom.

How do you deal with social stigma?

Ive had quite an upsetting experience today. My colleague asked me what id bought my 2 year old son for christmas. I said id bought him things such as:

Chocolates Pjs Gloves A big boy bed Etc.

I then said that having wrapped it all i was disappointed to see it didnt "look like much" but then i had a brainwave! I had tucked away lots of winter clothes for him that i knew would only fit him about now - so i wrapped those up too, because why not! Extra gifts!

Well she laughed at me and heavily implied they were not suitable gifts for a child. "A bed and clothes are things he needs, not things for christmas", god i felt so small.

Sure, it would be great to have so much disposable income i can buy the entire stock of toys r us, but i dont.

Anyway, now just feeling the mum guilt of trying to live a frugal christmas.

Any advice?

Finally able to get a pug but one thing that's preventing me is the social stigma

Hi all, I've always wanted a pug and now I am finally able to due to owning my own house now.

I've done research here and there but it is time for me to do an extensive research and mentally prepare myself.

I've talked to my friends that I can finally own a dog and I wanted to get a pug. Everyone in the room said, "why? It's unethical and they have problem breathing" and all the bad things of having a pug. I played along that I always wanted one but deep down I felt kinda hurt as pugs were my dream dogs since I was young. I understand that pugs compared to other dogs have more problems but I don't want to be seen as cruel or unethical. I just want a pug that I want to give lots of love, care and attention and a pug who can be a big part of my life and I want to be a big part of his life.

Thoughts on stigma around social anxiety...

Being able to be understood and accepted is a basic human need.

I met people with SA who never told their parents that they have SA. I am not an exception. My parents and close friends didn't know that I used to be anxious when I was in school.

Sometimes I fantasize about a culture where I could tell about my social anxiety as easily as I tell people about my name, color of my eyes, and my talents. After all, being anxious is not something I choose to be.

I think that SA is still heavily stigmatized.

What do you think?

There should be no social stigma associated with not taking care of Yourself occasionally.

There is just about a million valid reasons why someone having oily hair one day, or smelling bad is not something to be all that judgemental about.
What if they are incredibly depressed?
What if they are overworked?
What if they are distressed by something bad happening to them or someone close to them dying?
What if they are struggeling with substance abuse?
and i could keep going like this.

Tldr: Leave people with usually bad hygiene tf alone when they slack in that aspect of life at specific times

are there any reasons to lose weight outside of social stigma and better health?

I'll be frank--I don't give a shit if I die, so the whole health side of losing weight just....doesn't work for me, you know? I've tried to think about how I want to be healthier in general, but in the end, the result of bad health is death. and death is a-okay, so using that as motivation hasn't worked. social stigma doesn't work either. I'm aware people see me as a joke or a problem, but like.....who cares? I do. I cares. but not enough to do anything about it.

I don't want to be motivated by self hatred or guilt either (aaaayyy trust me that is a very dangerous option for me LMAO). how do you get yourself to care enough to bother? eating nice things is one of the only good parts about being alive, so how do you find a motivator that is worth losing that good part of life to the Endless Gray Void of Everyday Existence?

EDIT: I came back to delete this question after realizing I'd surely get a bunch of mean comments (you get used to it and start to kinda just expect it), but here you are. with things I had never even thought to consider before that actually do apply to what I want. I really appreciate it. it means a lot to me, really. thank you <3

ROGD is caused by social contagion and stigma against gender nonconformity

This is something that we need to have a sober, honest, realistic conversation about. While we always want to believe in the legitimacy of people's feelings when it comes to trans matters, we need to take a look at the context instead of just people's own accounts of their feelings, and see what other causes might be at play. And we also need to look at broader social trends, and the peer pressures and social suggestions that might be motivating those thoughts and feelings. After all, it's easy for people who socially stigmatized to wonder "wouldn't it be easier if...", and if there's then a hugboxing, cultlike community that's happy to affirm them and accept them into their echo chamber, all while feeding them a convenient narrative that offers them a way out of their shame, then that can be very tempting.

Which is why we need to talk about the social contagion of ROGD, or Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria, a social contagion sweeping through ashamed and insecure parents. Parents of trans and nonbinary adolescents often face social stigma and ostracism from their peers, as well as internalized transpatriphobia or transmatriphobia, and will often feel ashamed of their trans parental status. This leaves them looking for any way out, and makes them vulnerable to suggestion and social trends that offer them an escape from their stigmatized status, and the cultlike ROGD community is happy to offer them an explanation. "I can just live as the parent of an ROGD child who I push into desistance, and then I won't get bullied anymore!"

The temptation is real, but the truth is, they would be living a lie and mutilating their child's body with hormones that will potentially make them unable to live a normal life, and lead to transition-blocking regret when their child turns 18 and never speaks to them again. But of course, none of this matters to the ROGD community, who mindlessly affirm the parents' feelings, provide them with a welcoming community that they might not otherwise have, and dismiss anyone who raises counterevidence or concerns about their TRA dogma as an evil "TRA".

Parents of autistic trans adolescents are especially vulnerable to this kind of social contagion, as their neurotypical brains are incapable of applying theory of the mind to autistic people, so they're susceptible to simplistic, literal-minded ideas like "autism makes my son/daughter a mindless robot without any kind of higher thinking or agency."

Ultimately, as tempting as it is to give

I find it incredibly disheartening that so many people treat foot fetishes with such disdain. Considering some of the crazy kinks and fetishes that are out there I can’t understand why having an erotic interest in feet would be met with such derision!

Even kinks like sadomasochism and watersports seem to be treated with greater respect. If you’re not into feet or foot play, that’s perfectly reasonable but to basically sneer at those who are into it seems unreasonably intolerant.

I am a twenty year old man with abnormal intelligence. My IQ has been measured at 79. I have not finished school. I am not educated. I have no academic degrees or training in any trades. I wanted to become a mathematical physicist but I failed due to my inherent ineptitude for rational and exact thinking. I have failed at everything in life that matters to most people. Now I have taken to a job - I deliver couriers and food packets to earn my livelihood. I also work as a janitor. I have no future insofar the fancy notions of marriage, education, house, gainful employment, life insurance, romance, etc. are considered.

I am extremely shabby by my appearance. I have been laughed at by males and females for my ugly appearance and low intellect.

I am incapable of accumulating material wealth and attracting friends and partners due to my innate biological inferiority. I neither have any friend nor partner in my life. I live my life all alone due to my unwanted biology.

I am not a great man. In fact I live at the margins of the socio-economic order. I am unimportant to anybody who matters or doesn't. My life does not matter. I might be trampled upon like a piece of crap by people due to my low status. The job I do supplies a paltry amount of income to sustain my existence. Should there be any serious technological change, I would probably starve to death. Every day, I have to worry about that. When I think about my future life, my heart throbs with such brutality that I worry it might fly out rather than suffer pain because it knows I have no future! Nothing except my own will justfies my existence. I am a person of no material value to humanity.

But. Amidst all this - do you know I love to live? I feel the most lucky person in the world. I feel the magic almost divinely inspired when I am able to wake up in the morning - breathe the lively fresh air, feel the coldness of water as it cruises through the withered cracks of my dead skin, have the great bread delight my taste buds in the stillness of the morning fogs, smell the almost organic fragrance of my books, touch with my hands the coarseness of my skin, look through the mirror into the depth of my eyes, and so on. I love to think about things. I love the fact the with my tiny little brain I am to able to comprehend the enormity and splendor of the universe. I love the fact that even though I am technically an idiot I can still think about, almost pathetically, the underlying grand scheme that add meanin

To all Manga Vs Comics Circlejerkers: be sure to talk about the Comics Code/Social Stigma

As most of you know, Manga is wiping the floor with American comics, and lot's of people online are making sure everyone hears it, HOWEVER virtually none of them talk about how American comics have had their growth stunted due to publishers self censoring themselves with the comics code authority in order to appease angry parents who wouldn't let their precious children buy filthy reading material. There was backlash from the public thanks to a German Psychologist Fredrecik Wetham , which created a stigma of comics being for kids, and that led to the comics code forming, which lead to a diverse medium becoming far less diverse, before the code horror, crime, drama, and romance all thrived, but the code led to them being extinguished since publishers didn't want to lose the only customers they had left: 7-10 kids, since no self respecting adult or teen would want to be seen with a comic. Manga had more room to grow which is why it is thriving, like in the 70's there was a Manga called Devil Man made by a major publisher for the shounen demographic (12 year olds and up) which had nudity, horror, and gore, meanwhile in American comics the most graphic you could get in the 70's was a Green Goblin getting impaled by his own glider (No blood or metal coming out from the other side). So there we have it, Manga is winning by a landslide, but it did have a huge advantage over American comics, it's a similar situation with Japanese animation and American cartoons. My point of this rant is to emphasize that history plays a big part and should not be ignored.

-Note: I don't watch anime or read manga, I just did research. Also I am not trying to defend the terrible comics and writers of the past decade, just trying to remind people that Manga had more creative freedom in the past than American comics. Also I am only a casual reader, I prefer cartoons and video games

HSV ~ opinions, social stigma and dating

I’m 20F and recently got diagnosed with HSV-2 (aka herpes, I do not have it orally tho) when I was 19 after being taken advantage of when someone got me drunk and didn’t disclose T.T I haven’t even rlly been with many ppl at all or had a proper relationship before :( it’s been rough and have been going to hsv subreddits for info and support but wanted to go to a subreddit with ppl who are hsv negative for their thoughts

Realistically, would you date a girl with hsv or do casual with them ? What would it depend on for whether u said yes or no ? The social stigma behind STI’s is terrifying honestly and im just thinking about the future and the judgment and the possibly nasty rejections I’d likely have to face. I was already shy af before and never rlly put myself out there, only just started trying out online dating and matched with a lot of ppl and got loads of compliments but now here I am with hsv which I thought I’d never get smh,, it just complicates things even more and I feel like people will completely change their attitude and thoughts about me once I disclose. For now I’ve backed off from everything completely as I try to cope with it all

Only things I could do is always use protection, avoid doing stuff during an outbreak and try and get daily meds to suppress it (currently in the process of this)

Lol my dating life be over before it’s even started haha, but yh any advice is appreciated ! <3

Also hate how no one talks or spreads awareness about hsv/sti’s even tho it’s so common but idk if this will ever change, I hope it does one day tho ~

The Story of Chinese E-Sports: Industry, Policy and Social Stigma

β€œStand up! Those who refuse to be slaves! With our flesh and blood, let’s build our newest Great Wall! … Braving the enemies’ fire, march on! March on! March on! on!”

It was midnight in China’s southwestern city of Chongqing. The melody of the Chinese national anthem – spirited and fiery – rose from a crowd of hundreds of students who had their fists in the air. More were marching around the campus, chanting and singing.

Next to a dormitory building, two security guards pinned down a student holding a huge black flag that read β€œEDG.” Instead of resisting, the student appeared content to lie down on the ground, but still held the flagpole tightly with his legs to keep it upright. An onlooker off-camera applauded, β€œHis body fell, but the flag won’t fall!”

Hold on a bit if you think this is another nationalist protest in China. No, students were celebrating the victory of EDG (Edward Gaming), an eSports team funded by Chinese real estate developer Hopson, at the League of Legends World Championship in ReykjavΓk, Iceland. On Chinese video-sharing platformbilibili.com, the livestream of the game’s final round – which took place around 12:30 a.m. Beijing time on November 7 – attracted more than 550 million audience members at its peak, accounting for about one-third of China’s population. Young people all over the country went crazy at EDG’s victory, with students screaming out of joy from their dormitory rooms and thousands of people shouting β€œEDG Bravo!” (”EDG 牛逼!”) on the street. Interspersed with the frenzied celebrations were confused complaints of the middle-aged: β€œI don’t care who EDG is. I just want to sleep.”

The victory of EDG was so huge that they received almost immediate congratulation from China’s state media CCTV on Weibo. The hashtag β€œEGD wins”(#EDGε€Ίε† #), created by CCTV, received nearly 1 billion views within one hour. Just two months ago, however, it was also CCTV that announced the government’s latest regulations of video games, which, dubbed as β€œanti-addiction” measures, limit the time under-18s can spend on gaming to three hours per week, making it the most strict governmental regulation on gaming in the world.

To some extent, the wavering position CCTV took in regards to eSports and gaming mirrors the dilemma that the Chinese government struggles with when approaching the industry. On one hand, eSports offer huge economic potential and fit well with the government’s techno-nationalist agenda, while on the other hand, they are closely re
