Hi I'm having trouble figuring out how to do the garter panel on the Flax jumper. I've made a few attempts at the pattern and it's resulted in having garter rows where there shouldn't. And I'm just having trouble figuring out why its going wrong when I'm not doing anything differently to the written pattern.

If anyone who's completed this jumper has any tips on how I can fix this, I'd really appreciate it.

I cannot figure out how long to make this part of the pattern the gauge is supposed to be (18st & 44 rows=4"/10cm in seed stitch) my stitch gauge is exact but my row gauge is 24 instead of 44.

It seems like I should be able to just knit more rows and there should be a way of figuring out the math but I cannot for the life of me figure it out and the pattern only gives finished measurements. I know I can wing it for the back piece but I'm worried about the sleeves and a few of the connecting pieces b/c of picking up stitches on the rows.

Can anyone help me with the math / explain the formula I would use to figure it out?
