Minox for seborrhoeic dermatitis induced hair loss?

Hi everyone,

In the past 12 months I've lost around 50-60% of hair on the top of my head due to seborrhoeic dermatitis, and have been on anti-fungal medication and topical corticosteroids for the past few months. The problem is that after my first regiment of anti-fungal meds, which was 2x daily for a week(2.5 months ago), the hair loss practically stopped, afterwards I was placed on a new regiment of 2x monthly and the hair loss resumed as if I simply stopped taking anything. Regrowth is minimal and the amount of hair I lose on the daily outpaces the regrowth by a large margin.

I'm getting desperate at this point, since my hair was naturally dense, I still have quite a bit of hair, but the thought of just taking a electric razor and shaving it all off comes to me all day every day. My confidence is in the gutter and I feel like complete shit. My hair was my favourite thing about myself and now it's slipping out of my hands day after day. I haven't felt this bad since I had a major depressive episode 5 years ago

My question is, would minox help in this case? Since its not MPB causing the hair loss but instead is caused by an overgrowth of fungus which lives naturally on your scalp.

Money is tight and while I could afford it, I'd rather buy food with that money and I don't wanna waste money on something that wouldn't even help. Especially since hair loss due to seborrhoea is temporary and regrowth happens when the underlying cause is eliminated. Is it too early in the treatment to say if it's working or not? Should I wait longer? Should I just give up and buy a wig?

Any emotional support is more than welcome; I am at my breaking point.

But, if you stop doing it, it comes right back at you, itchy head, yellow dandruff, inflamed skin. So yea just wanted to ask if i will have this inconvinient, annoying and sometimes embarrisng illnes for the rest of my life or will it go away at some point without me having to always do special treatments. [Routine Help]Those with seborrhoeic dermatitis: What is your routine? MCT Oil?

I have gone to my derm and was prescribed the usual medicated shampoo and Ketoconazole cream 2%. But I was told not to apply every day and only when the flare-ups happen because then my skin will get used to it and will grow tolerant against it. The issue is when I stop using it my skin starts getting super dry and flaky, I put on Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion but it dries out super quick because my skin is super dry and some spots in my scalp are also super dry and flaky when I stop using the shampoo. It's so embarrassing having flakes on my face and flakes falling from my head when I make any movement of my head.

I don't really have a routine and was wondering what everyone else does, besides using the medicated shampoos & creams, to prevent a lot of dryness, redness, and flakiness as much as possible. I've been reading that MCT oil has been really helpful in this situation but I'm not sure which brand to get. TIA!

I Need Recommendations (Seborrhoeic dermatitis)

I wash my hair daily since it’s quite oily in the scalp and I have a form of Seborrhoeic dermatitis (a doctor told me this years ago) so my scalp will get little white bits in it if I touch it too much or just throughout the day.

I have tried a lot of different products over the years and haven’t found anything to help me so any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.

Some of the things I have tried include Head and Shoulders, Nizoral, tea tree oil (diluted), tea tree shampoo, a scalp massager brush, Vanicream Clean and Free shampoo, and apple cider vinegar. I’m sure I’ve tried other stuff but these are the things that come to mind.

Edit - the white bits are oily and not flaky or dry. My scalp gets oily within a few hours of washing it. The products I listed never helped unfortunately.

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis or: How I learned to Stop Scratching and Love 10% Sulphur Soap

Hello my skin suffering family!

I'm back after my original post from 2018 with an update with what I am currently using which is working very well for me.

I recommend reading my original post before continuing to know how I have arrived at this solution:

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis or: How I learned to Stop Scratching and Love Ketoconazole

Enter 10% Sulphur Soap

I now use the above soap which I find helps to sooth an outbreak if I get one, but also more importantly has seemed to stop outbreaks occurring since I began using them 2 months ago. (This is a record as I've been suffering with this for around a decade!)

This is the one I have been using:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/100G-PACK-Sulphur-10-Soap/dp/B07D74KV5P/ref=sr_1_9?crid=8P13F9LVYPXP&dchild=1&keywords=sulphur+soap&qid=1594154826&sprefix=sulphur+soap%2Caps%2C231&sr=8-9

New Routine:

I wash my face with water then lather on the sulphur soap onto any affected areas. I then leave it for 5 minutes before rinsing it off. Thats it, quite quick and easy.

Hopefully might help someone else out there. I would strongly recommend trying this incase it works for you as it has for me. Good luck on your journey with Seborrhoeic Dermatitis!

5 Years of Successfully Controlling Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on Face (What has Worked)

I've had moderate sebderm on my face for the past 5 years or so, but with these treatments I've been able to keep it under control to the point where it isn't remotely noticeable. What I've noticed is that a treatment will typically work for some period of time, and then will stop as you become resistant to it. The good news is, there is tons of different treatments that are effective and almost all of them can be found at your local Walgreens - these are what have worked for me.

Dead Sea Salt: This is the first thing I tried and it worked for about 6 months or so. Buy some dead sea salt and mix it in warm water, then apply this to your face with a small towel for 1-5 minutes. If you are having a flare up, it will most likely sting - this is a good thing. Once you're done rinse your face off, your skin may be a little red and dried out immediately after so I recommend applying moisturizer (I prefer Olay). Overall, this method is good, but takes more time than the others so it isn't my favorite.

White Vinegar: Once the Sea Salt stopped working, I turned to this method and it worked like a charm for about a year. In my opinion, its like the dead sea salt method, but on steroids. Buy a big thing of white vinegar and dip a small towel or toilet paper in it, apply it to your sebderm for 15-30 seconds or so and then rinse off. If you are having a flare up, this will cause it to burn - that means its working. Some people recommend mixing the white vinegar in water to dilute it, but I have very sensitive skin and never found that to be necessary. Once again, I recommend using moisturizer after.

Ketoconazole Cream: I was very skeptical about going to a dermatologist, but once the White Vinegar stopped working, I gave it a shot. They prescribed me Ketonazole 2x a day for two weeks. This stuff worked better than anything I had previously done. Within days the sebderm would be gone and it was extremely easy to apply. Once the flare ups would go away, I would use it 2-3 times a week as needed. Worked unreal for about 2 years. Recently it hasn't been as effective which has led to my most recent treatment.

Selsun Blue Shampoo with Selenium Sulfide (1%): I just started using this this week and it has worked like a charm so far. I have been applying it to my face and leaving it there for about a minute or so before washing it off. After a day or so my flare up is gone.

Hydrocortisone Cream: This was also prescribed to me and works very well, but I

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis And natural haiR care question

I’m growing my hair for the second time and doing things different. I have Seborrhoeic Dermatitis that causes me to have a flaky scalp and eyebrows as well. My dermatologist prescribed me Nizoral which is a medicated shampoo that works wonders. However this is an extremely drying shampoo. I have a fairly short afro right now so I’m not able to apply the shampoo to my scalp without getting it on my hair.

Before Nizoral I used a clarifying shampoo once a week and always deep conditioned after. I know it’s not recommended to use it too often but I have low porosity hair and from my experience my hair just doesn’t absorb the conditioner very well if I use regular shampoo.

I’m curious how do you guys with low porosity hair and Seborrhoeic Dermatitis go about your hair care regime.

I have learnt my lesson in the past that my scalp is sensitive and many types of products upset my scalp. The worst being any product containing coconut oil. Anyways I use it once a week and deep condition for 40 minutes after.

[Personal] Seborrhoeic Dermatitis or: How I learned to Stop Scratching and Love Ketoconazole

Hello Reddit,
I have created this account to share information about what has helped me treat my Seborrhoeic dermatitis. I really hope that this can help someone out there who also suffers from this skin disorder. It is no fun and had a serious negative impact on my life. Luckily I have found two things that have helped keep it under control, improving my life greatly.

Background:

I am a long term sufferer of Seborrhoeic dermatitis, it began when I was around 19 years old. I would get extremely itchy red skin under and around my nose and also on the hairline by my temples. At the beginning it wasn't that bad and I just ignored it. As time went on the redness got worse and became a real pain as I had to shave over the sore area which you can imagine irritated it greatly.

First Method of Treatment - Sudocrem:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudocrem
The first thing I tried was Sudocrem which is a antiseptic healing cream. This is a Swiss army knife of a creme and can assist many different skin related issues, something I have used many times for different skin related problems.

###The good:

  • When applying Sudocrem to the irritated area around my nose, it provided instant pain relief on the itchy patches and cooled the area.
  • After 3/4 days it would leave the areas feeling almost completely normal and the redness would be almost completely gone leaving the skin looking normal.

###The bad:

  • Sudocrem is a very white creme. I am talking white clown face makeup white. If you apply a large thick layer (which I found most effective at helping) then the creme is very very noticeable. That's why I only applied it before bed, or when I didn't have to go out. It is possible to only apply a thin layer too which can be almost unnoticeable.
  • Sudocrem is water resistant which makes it rather hard to wipe off your face.

My Sudocrem Routine:

I lived using the following routine for around 3 years. This was a weekly routine. For the first 3/4 nights in a row, I would apply a thick layer of Sudocrem to the affected area before I went to sleep. If the flare up was around my mouth, I would also apply vaseline to my lips (this would help stop the sudocrem getting stuck on my lips in the morning). When I woke up each morning, I would use toilet paper to remove as much of the Sudocrem as possible. Then I would wipe the remaining Sudocrem off using a thick cotton face cloth. I found this to be the least irratative way of removing S

Hairloss reason? Seborrhoeic dermatitis/Telogen effluvium??? (pictures)

All started around 4 months ago out of nowhere with unbearable itching with minimal dandruff/flaking. The only visual symptom were these yellowish harden sebum grains around fallen hair root. Have been to the dermatologist and treating it as Seborrhoeic dermatitis, but just does not seems to match the symptoms. 4 months and 10 shampoo's later the itching has calmed down significantly, but still losing hair at the same rate lost around 50% overall

The fallen hair still have these harden part on roots and when I remove it the hair root has a white bulb. So im still not sure what my condition is. Any1 else?

some extra info:

- 24m with no family history of hairloss/scalp issues like mine

- I daily shampoo + condition (Malassezia save)

- I don't use any products

- Not feeling stressed and overall just healthy

- Also experience eyebrow loss with similar symptoms

I cured my Seborrhoeic dermatitis in one week and it hasn't returned in 6 months.

I read this online somewhere and thought I would try it. It really worked. The fungus that causes seborrhoeic dermatitis, Malassezia can be killed with antifungal agents. The best natural fungicide is GARLIC. I managed to cure my seborrhoeic dermatitis of three years by applying raw mashed garlic to my head every night (and washing it off in the morning) for a week. I know its stinky but it really worked. I bought a swimming cap to stop it going on the pillow. Note this does sting a bit, you can dilute it with water if it is too much. I have been free for over 6 months now.

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis and How It's Affected My Scalp and Hair

I've had this dandruff issue on my scalp since I was a little kid. My scalp is oily, but dry at the same time and full of white flakes of dandruff and my head has always had this musty smell to it, even when I wash it. When I went to doctors they told me to use over the counter dandruff shampoos. (I can never get rid of the smell no matter what I do.) Ever since I was in middle school I washed my hair every single day. If I didn't I'd have a dandruff flare up.

The dandruff would come and go throughout the years, but when I turned 20 I decided that I should wash my hair every other day and thinking it would be a little healthier for my hair. I started getting red patchy sores on my scalp with the dandruff a few months later. That's when my doctor diagnosed me with seborrhoeic dermatitis. She referred me to a dermatologist and that doctor said to use T Gel, Head and Shoulders, ect even though I told her that those shampoos don't work for me. I got a different doctor the next year and she prescribed me ketoconazole shampoo and fluocinonide topical solution. During this time I was also going through a lot of stress and I know that made my scalp flare up worse. It's been 4 years and doctors have not been helpful, they pretty much tell me the same thing so I've been looking online for solutions.

I tried using one of the Shea Moisture hair Masques once every other week for a couple of months. High Porosity Moisture Correct African Black Soap Purification

Each time I used them as directed on the packaging it made my hair frizzy and made more flakes on my scalp.

Once a week I mix half apple cider vinegar and half water in a 4oz bottle and I put it on my scalp for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. It helps the dandruff only a little and prevents my scalp to get those red scaly patches, but my hair gets frizzy.

The shampoos I am currently using and (that helps the most) is Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle. I've been giving Sage by Maple Holistics a try and it dried my hair out.

I noticed these past few years that my hair is getting shorter and shorter. Even though I've never cut my hair. (Aside from getting regular trims) Almost 4 years ago my hair was almost to my waist

After 12 years, I've found a solution to my seborrhoeic dermatitis!

All credit to this post [here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/766kex/skin_concerns_ive_finally_fixed_my_seborrheic/). Which I found from googling on /r/skincareaddiciton.

To cut a long story short she reccomends using MCT oil (this is the one I am using from Amazon UK) and applying it the scalp. I use a cotton bud and gently rub it across my scalp and any dry areas.

>I went no shampoo; I'd only "wash" with water. I tried different water temperatures. I tried filtered, distilled, spring water. Then, I went to using ACV (apple cider vinegar) as shampoo. I tried ACV and baking soda. During senior year of high school, I went to my graduation rehearsal smelling like ketchup because I'd washed my hair with ACV that morning.

>I tried washing my hair every day. It would keep the flakes at bay, but it was a tedious process to wash my hair every day and wait for it to dry. It also stripped the hell outta my hair. It wasn't practical. Sometimes I'd have to go to sleep with wet hair. Then, I switched to only washing in the morning.

>I tried hot oil treatments: olive oil, coconut oil, mineral oil, and castor oil either by themselves or in various mixes. I tried to leave in the hot oil treatments, I tried them before washing, I tried them after washing.

>I scrubbed my scalp with tea tree oil. I tried various "dandruff" shampoos and conditioners.

>Then, I finally went to to the dermatologist this year. I was prescribed 2% Ketoconazole shampoo and 0.01% fluocinolone acetonide oil. I used them as prescribed (leave the shampoo on for 5 minutes, wash every 3 days, use the oil after washing). My dandruff got better. I thought it was fixed after I finished the bottle. I switched back to the otc ketoconazole shampoo, and the dandruff returned. I was damned.

This is the history of the linked post op's seborrhoeic dermatitis and it matched mine to a t. None of the treatments had any effect.

I still rinse my hair with Apple Cider vinegar dilute in bottled water, I then have some ACV dilute which I keep in a spray bottle which I spray directly on my scalp while it's still wet. Finally I add the MCT Oil while my hair and scalp is drying.

It's been over a month since I started this routine and my dry, flakey scalp is no more! It maybe too early to start celebrating yet but NO other treatment

I desperately need your help with seborrhoeic dermatitis on face!!!

I have been having seborrhoeic dermatitis on my cheeks, mustache area, jawline, and ear. The skin is red and it feels like their a barrier between when my real skin and fingers when I am cleansing. There also is the discharge of this yellowish fluid that later forms patches of yellow crust on the aforementioned areas. I have previously used hydrocortisone and clotrimazole which only helped when applied routinely. However, as I have read on this forum, steroid use is not a safe nor effective option. Therefore, my routine recently has been like the following:

(at night) I apply white vinegar to affected areas and leave on for 30 ish seconds. I then use honey to wash my face. I follow with Cerave PM moisturizer. After the moisturizer, I apply clotrimazole to the affected areas and Retin-a to the remaining face which is NOT affected by seborrhoeic dermatitis.

(morning) simply wash face with water. Apply Cerave PM moisturizer. Once dried, use clotrimazole on affected areas.

I was inspired to try the vinegar treatment due to many success stories. As of today, I have been on this vinegar treatment for 5 days. However, red and dry patches continue to persist with a yellow fluid being discharged, which is rather painful. Also, right after applying the vinegar to my face, a white cast forms on the affected areas. I am at a loss for what to do.

I beg of this community to help me, thanks so much for your time.

Cured my Seborrhoeic Dermatitis of six years in 2 days.

Whatsup guys,

Basically I want to share with you how I cured my Dermatitis of six years after countless medical treatments and thousands of dollars spent. I tried ketoconazole and desonide cream (which gave me horrible side effects including bone and ligament weakening) to no avail. After I stopped taking those topicals I had to figure out a new way to treat my derm or else my face would look like a crumbly tomato.

Long story short this is how I cured it:

I made sure to get sun on my face daily and also did a sauna + steam room and cold shower afterwards. I'd say this cured 50% of it but I still had a little bit of trouble.

The other 50% came from using dead sea salt on my face while in the shower. I would literally just rub it in for 20 seconds. I then went out of the shower and rubbed MCT oil all over my face since the bacteria that causes seb derm can't consume medium chain triglycerides (make sure your MCT oil DOES NOT HAVE LAURIC ACID since the bacteria can consume this.) Please do not use any other moisturizing products on your face besides the MCT oil. You have to starve the bacteria while still being able to moisturize your skin and allow good bacteria to grow.

I also found out I was deficient in vitamin b6 and started supplementing. I started this supplementing months ago but I definitely saw a improvement in my skin from it.

So after I did two of these salt treatments + mct oil last week (I can't believe i'm about to write this) but my seb derm has not come back at all. I'm in shock. My seb derm was so bad that if I didn't treat it with desonide or ketoconazole it would come back within 2 days. It's been 7 days and I haven't touched my skin with anything and it still hasn't come back.

6 years of this nightmare is over and I can finally go back to not worrying about my face anymore. I don't know why the four different dermatologists I saw over the past few years never mentioned any of this to me but I knew the second my own treatments started working that I had to share them with you guys.

I really truly hope this works for you.

KEY POINTS

  • Get Sun on seb derm areas daily (tanning beds can work as well)
  • Sauna/Steam Bath/Cold Shower
  • Dead Sea Salt scrub face for 30 seconds
  • Use MCT oil on face after salt scrub (NO LAURIC ACID)
  • Dont use any other moisturizers
  • Supplement vitamin B6
  • Change your pillow covers

My dandruff/Seborrhoeic dermatitis is nearly gone!

I've had problems with dandruff off and on over the years. I tried Head & Shoulders, anti-fungal shampoo, Free & Clear, coal tar, and prescription shampoos. Nothing helped. It had gotten worse since moving across the country. A couple months ago I saw a dermatologist and she said it was seborrhoeic dermatitis, and prescribed steroid drops for my scalp. Just after that my house burned down (another story), and I never used the drops. I ended up in a home off the city water system, and have well water. I stopped having all the flakes and redness, and realized the well water must be the reason! Maybe it's the chlorine or other substances added to purify the tap water, I don't know....

The only other shampoo that helped (and I still use it religiously) is this one . I've used Lots of high end shampoos (Kerastase, etc...) and this one is my forever shampoo.

Need some advice for Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on my scalp

Not sure if this applies for this subreddit so I apologize in advance but this is the closest thing I could find for advice.

For about a year now I’ve had a very dry and flakey scalp that would sometimes bleed and my flesh would feel very tender and oily. It’s not psoriasis since I don’t have any swollen red patches on my scalp or anywhere else on my body, but it’s much more extreme than just dandruff. Therefore I assume I have Seborrhoeic Dermatitis. Recently I’ve been using a tea tree shampoo for my scalp which helps for the first 48 hours. My scalp is still dry but the flake build up and itchiness goes away. However on the third day the itching comes back and my flakes start to get crusty again.

I don’t mind shampooing every 2 days or so but the problem is that I have very long hair (19 Y/O Male) and my hair is on the very fine side, so shampoos make my hair look like crap. After 3 days however, my hair looks shiny and thick but my damn scalp feels awful so it’s a strange trade off.

I’ve also been using hemp seed oil twice every week or so but I can’t tell if it’s helping me or not. I’m thinking about buying an anti fungal shampoo but the problem is that it’s quite expensive for a small amount.

If anyone could help give me suggestions for what I should do, it would be really appreciated.

What is difference between contact dermatitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis?

Im struggling to understand what's going on with myself at minute any help would be appreciated. My chin has been burning and slightly itchy the burning definetly outweighs the itching its red too quite greasy on chin but other times it is dry and flaking a tiny bit and once the flakes go Im left with like red spots like whiteheads this is only on my chin it goes slightly darker then rest of my face too almost like a burn. I''ve realised It only happens after coming In contact with various Skincare Ingredients Im noticing my skin reacts to propylene glycol, coconuts such as lauric acid, Triglyceride basically anything coconut derived I don't even know what to use anymore and Its becoming so frustrating. How do I differentiate between the too? I am prone to mild seborrhoeic dermatitis on my scalp. So I don't know what exactly Im dealing with.

Hairloss reason? Seborrhoeic dermatitis/Telogen effluvium???

All started around 4 months ago out of nowhere with unbearable itching with minimal dandruff/flaking. The only visual symptom were these yellowish harden sebum grains around fallen hair root. Have been to the dermatologist and treating it as Seborrhoeic dermatitis, but just does not seems to match the symptoms. 4 months and 10 shampoo's later the itching has calmed down significantly, but still losing hair at the same rate lost around 50% overall since it started

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis or: How I learned to Stop Scratching and Love 10% Sulphur Soap [DIY]
