Will people who choose anti aging therapies stay stuck in their Reminiscence bump?

Discussion of SENS usually includes "societal problems" like "how are we going to feed all these people if they don't die?" or "what about eternal dictators?"

Here's one.... the Reminiscence bump is a phenomenon where so much novel stuff happens between the ages of 15-25 that people tend to stay stuck in it for life. It's most obvious when middle-aged/older people say things like "the music from MY era was the best".

So what happens when we have a bunch of 100-somethings with the looks and health of 20/30-somethings? Will they mentally move onto new things or just stay stuck in their Reminiscence bump?

An Overview of North American Crossover Thrash, 1985-1992

β€œFighting in this society, there’s only one way to win
We must stick together through all thick and thin.
Cross over the line of your stubborn, closed mind
You’ll be surprised at what you might find.”
--Kurt Brecht/D.R.I., β€œTear It Down,” Crossover, 1987

This is a punk list too, so let’s cut to the chase. Crossover thrash (previously: thrash, metalcore) was a genre born in the mid 1980s in the midst of both the hardcore and metal movements of underground music. It’s important to understand the context and timeline of why this movement occurred, who it involved, and why it came into existence.

#Early History: Heavy Metal and Hardcore Punk

In the early-mid 80s, hardcore punk was still largely seen as the true, β€œhard” genre that had teeth. Several musicians in both scenes have commented as much--Black Flag and Bad Brains were king, Metallica and Slayer were runners-up. Many of us in contemporary times associate β€œmetal” with some of its more grotesque, intense, and offensive aesthetics, in 1982 the darkest and scariest band was still just Venom, while hardcore punk was getting their shows shut down by cops and getting in fights with the audience. Metal bands had their edge (to say nothing that Venom, W.A.S.P., and Mercyful Fate weren’t included on the PMRC’s Filthy Fifteen) but the real hard and dark violent edge was still associated with hardcore punk. Even when Kill β€˜Em All and Show No Mercy dropped, they still had a while to go before they were understood as the instant classics they are today.

Heavy metal in the public consciousness for people in-the-know were bands like Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, and Twisted Sister as much as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Contrast that to Black Flag, Government Issue, Bad Brains, and Minor Threat? It’s no wonder that people thought that punk had more teeth. That wasn’t to say there wasn’t any level of crossover, so to speak--here’s Tom Araya of Slayer making a cameo in fellow LA compatriots Suicidal Tendencies’ famous video for β€œInstitutionalized.” More on that in a minute.

As such, this came with a sort of cultural divide. Old movies, radio shows, and zines from the period began to refer to separate scenes as β€œlonghairs” and β€œshorthairs,” being what we now call metalheads and punks today (although both those terms were still in use today). And they did not get along.

Humorously, tracing both movements b

I listened to Ariana Grande's discography for the 1st time and ranked it: a write-up (?)

"You, you love it how I move you | You love it how I touch you, my one | When all is said and done | You'll believe God is a woman"

If there's one It Girl in the world of pop right now, it's truly Ariana Grande. She had my entire middle school under her thumb during the thank u, next era and she still keeps the world of pop spinning for her -- i remember when, for this year's International Women's Day, we had to cite women who inspired us in 5 different categories (beauty, intelligence, art, strength, music & art), and she got at least one if not many more nomination in every single category by every single girl in the class. Everytime she announces something it breaks Twitter, and she's completely inescapable whether it's in the real world or on r/popheads. So of course, there had to come a day where i would check out what's all the fuss about (especially since i had somehow not consciously heard a single Ariana Grande song before, despite her dominating pretty much every form of music media and also because i was tired of feeling left out on this very sub), and i went in that order: Positions>Yours Truly>My Everything>Dangerous Woman>Sweetener>thank u, next>Christmas Kisses>Christmas & Chill. Well, did the strength of her music live up to that of her superstar status ? Here's what i concluded myself chronicled in the form of a discography ranking. Go !

"Santa, tell me if you're really there | Don't make me fall in love again if he won't be here next year"

  • Thoughts: Basic christmas album. What can i say ? Because there's nothing to be said here. The classics are classics, Ariana sounds good. That's all. Next

"Baby, I don't care if you got her in your heart | All I really care is you wake up in my arms | One last time | I need to be the one who takes you home"

#7. My Everything

Script.txt

Recently, I finished and uploaded my Kentaro Miura tribute. It took two weeks to get it done. Before this, I had made it public that I was going to take a break from working on my EATEOT project to focus on something else. I wanted to work on a Skyrim project from start to finish so that I could try forcing myself to work on a project and not shift my focus. It was necessary.

However, Kentaro Miura, the creator of Berserk, passed away, which saddened me deeply. I had to break away from the Skyrim project as a result, to work on something that I hold precious to me: The commemoration of a deceased talent that taught many of us many things.

Since I broke away from a project I had committed myself to, I am free to resume work on other things again, the most important of them currently being my EATEOT project. The project itself is special, considering that, as far as I know, no one has reviewed each track of EATEOT. Because there are so many tracks and there's a lot to say, I took to using each song as though it were a plot point in a story.

I was going to keep from making this public, but considering that I still have to apply visuals, subtitles, and adjust the audio in a few places, this is still going to take a second to produce. Because I like you guys, I wanted to spoil a bit and make the story script public. The work I'm doing matters to me, and because this should've been out by now, given I'm 9 months into the development of it, I should at least show something for the work I've been doing. The content of the story has not been pleasant to my nerves, and going over this as many times as I have has drained me on a number of levels.

Enjoy.

Inter-Species Recourse: Chapter 2

Well hello again. Here is part 2. Still al ot of trying to build and explain the world I want to make. Anything I missed, please leave a comment. and as of this point, I do not promise pancakes, might one day, but not sure.

First

Luc’nat was, well she wasn’t really sure. When the manager came in and asked those questions, she had been a bit scared because she thought they had been found out. Then, she was confused when the human had started talking like nothing was happening and for a moment, sounded like he hadn’t meant to do those things, which made her just a little sad. After that, not unreasonably, the manager started to chew her out and instead of letting her be insulted, the human stood up for her and defended her, which she had to admit made her heart flutter just a little. As the manager turned away, she couldn’t help but smirk as she thought she had Johnathan wrapped around her finger. And now here she is, hearing him apologize profusely and saying that he understood if she never wanted to speak with him again. She felt a most confusing emotion, a sort of pity, with a touch of bliss and mirth.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts and said, β€œHonestly Johnathan, I am not upset in the slightest. I was not worried about you taking advantage of me, even with that Terran charm of yours.” she had to resist the urge to sniff the air as she said this. While most Terrans do not find each other to smell pleasant, most other species found the smell to be surprisingly pleasant, a bit of a soft yet musky smell with a bit of an earthy tone. And of course, as Jonathan started fretting, he started sweating. β€œBesides, I am pretty sure a big strong gal like me can take care of herself,” she joked trying to mimic that Terran drawl she had heard slip from Johnathan when he wasn’t focusing. She saw a slight smile tug at his lips, though he had an air of sorrow around him still.

β€œStill, I should have known better than to treat a friend like that,” he said looking down. Trying to imitate the Terran shoulder pat, I reassured him saying, β€œHey, don’t worry about it. If you really feel bad about it, I have the perfect way to get even with you and make up for it.” Johnathan looked confused for a second and I couldn’t help but think, β€˜I didn’t understand what the archives meant when it said Terrans could be dense when it came to interacting with others, but I think I can actually see his brain being o

(Discussion) Prices are great this year

At first seeing all the big hitters from previous year getting a huge bump in their fee was a bit underwhelming. Especially when there is so much undercertainty regarding if they can keep up their form fpl wise. When you think about, last season was one of the easiest templates in a while.

You could afford the strongest template team, with lots in the bank throughout the season.

Martinez

Dallas- (Stones, Targett ..)

Son Salah Fernandes Grealish (Gundogan, Jota, Soucek, Lingard..)

Kane Bamford Watkins (Wilson, Calvert..)

It barely gave any sort of wriggle room to wrestle your way up unless you you predicted certain player's purple patches before they hit. Kudos to you if you did. Nontheless having something reminiscent from the above, playing the ordinary chip meta strategies, and you had a comfortable 30-100k finish. A team that required minimum maintenance except for COVID interference fucking you up here and there.

My point is, that this time around you wont be able to afford the best high scoring duos of each club, and instead limit yourself as we go along. If you own Salah and Kane, getting in KDB and Fernandes is almost impossible. Also increasing the prices of strikers, despite giving less value per 0,1 mil, and lumping most of them into the 6-8 mil bracket will give a great amount of variation.

This time around we also dont have cheap 'out of position' players. Dallas last season, and Lundstram the year before that. Players like this are fun, but they ruin due to how easy it makes to balance your books. Having one of the highest scorers, for their defensive positions, throughout the entire season on a 4, 4.5 mil is boring.

Strikers who score in the 10-15 bracket often do it in purple patches. Although you can easily make a transfer to another due to similar prices it will be up to you and your gut to figure out when. There are so many interesting options, difficulty of fixture list can often times be very deceiving too. Bamford, Watkins, Calvert, Wood, Wilson, Richarlison, Antonio, Jesus, Ings, Cavani, Laca, Toney, Puki.. is a lot to pick from for 3 positions, if you even want to pick 3 mid-priced strikers. There is nothing to suggest this season wont be as shallow upfront but it looks promising.

In midfield we have seen a huge bump as midfielders get extra point for cleansheets and another point for a goal. Wingers these days tend to score just as many goals as strikers so its fair that we have price changes here. It is hard to justify

Section One: Assets and Debt

Retirement Balance: $57,000 - $33k is in a 403(b) which is the non-profit version of a 401(k). Previous employer had 4% matching and I was contributing 4-11%. Current employer contributes 6% and prior to Covid matched up to 4%, so I was submitting 4% for a total of 14%. Currently I don't contribute anything in an effort to divert that money to my Roth IRA. It's not going well for other reasons that will be later addressed. $24k is in my Roth IRA that I started when I was 22 with some money that I had saved and leftover student loan money (this was not done on purpose lol). I only really started contributing to it a couple years ago and I kick myself in the butt for missing those compounding 5 years of interest...

Equity: $0 but I'm looking to buy something in the next 5 years, hopefully haha

Savings Account Balance: $13,000 - It took me YEARS but I finally got to $10k which was my Emergency Fund goal. Now I'm just trying to grow it into a down payment.

Checking Account Balance: $1,600 - at time of starting this MD, it was Payday! I don't really keep money in here, so after paying bills, I move any leftovers to my savings and leave like $4 in here

Credit Card Debt: $0 - I charge everything to my credit cards for points and then pay the statement balance in full. This has been getting a little harder to do for reasons that will be addressed later.

Student Loan Debt: $0 - paid off my undergrad loans at the end of 2019. I didn't have much to begin with, thankfully.

I just finished TARAUS1 for the first time in my chronological watch of every season. Here are some of my thoughts!

Hey r/TheAmazingRace!

So after hearing lots of great things about the Australian iteration of The Amazing Race (albeit, more so AUS2), I’ve finally gotten around to watching my country’s first foray into the race, and it was a pretty good one! Overall, I would classify it as a very solid and strong first season, although with no humongous standouts that make the season really shine. With a pretty good cast across the board, and a strong route (with great challenges too!), the season was a real joy to watch from start to finish. Just an all around good one! Let’s get into it!

Disclaimer: I've only seen Seasons 1-18, AUS1 and Season 30 - so please refrain from spoiling any future seasons! I'm planning on only browsing my posts in the sub, and nothing else, to avoid spoilers! Also, this is all my opinion! You are of course allowed to disagree, but lets keep it civil :)

Thoughts on the cast

So as I briefly mentioned above, I quite like this cast across the board. We don’t have much diversity, but the cast itself tends to be entertaining and fun to watch, with many β€˜Aussie archetypes’ that were fun to see on screen, after seeing these people day to day in my life. In saying this, whilst I think the cast was incredibly solid, it didn’t possess any huge standouts that are cemented in my elite group of top racers. That’s not a hit though, and the cast is still really good - let’s talk details.

Tyler & Nathan

Our winners of the first Australian season of TAR - the typical Aussie surfer bros. In my opinion, Tyler/Nathan were nothing new - apart from the Australian twist, we’ve seen the male/male bro-ey archetype on TAR many times. In fact, I feel they lacked some of the personality and narration capability that these archetypes can often have. That may have given away my feelings on them, but overall, I didn’t really like them that much? They were completely fine by all standards - inoffensive, occasionally funny, and very strong racers, but nothing about them ever compelled me to root for them or support them.

I suppose they are a good β€˜stock standard’ winner for the first iteration of a season, as the winners of US1 were, but apart from that, I’m a bit disappointed with their win. Yes, they were one of the strongest teams, both at racing and challenges, but their lack of development and personality hindered my ability to like them, and I would have much preferred to see either of the other top

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Code Name S.T.E.A.M. is Intellegent System's magnum opus of strategy games, and you owe it to yourself to play it.

Is it ironic that I got this image from Nintendo of Europe's web page?

Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (Called STEAM for most of this review out of laziness) is a 2015 3DS game set in a Steampunk 1800s, in which Abraham Lincoln fakes his own death in order to lead a team of fictional characters from American literature, from Oz’s Tin Man (reimagined in samurai style) to Peter Pan’s Tiger Lily, and of course everyone’s favorite American literature character, Lucina from Spider Man. Their goal? Why, saving the earth from an invasion of Lovecraftian Aliens, of course. Occasionally, Honest Abe involves himself directly in the fight by piloting a giant steampunk mech to punch out Cthulu himself.

Yes, the mech is shaped like Lincoln himself, did you really have to ask?

…

…So, uh…

…Why the hell are you still here? Go buy the game already, holy shit, did you not READ what I just wrote? The only thing more insane than this game, is the fact that it’s only been 6 years and it’s already forgotten. Nobody bought it, nobody ever talks about it. Fire Emblem Fates came out only 2 months later in Japan, and nobody will shut the fuck up about that game.

Well, leaving STEAM’s unfortunate fate as a discussion for the end of this reviewtrospective, I’m going to do my damndest here to explain to you why you’re an absolute donkey for not having played this game for half a dozen years.

Gameplay Introduction

STEAM is a 3rd-person strategy game where you control 4 out of a roster of 12 agents, each with unique weapons and abilities. Think Valkyria Chronicles but steampunk, if that means anything to you, and you’re in the right ballpark. The steampunk setting is baked into the game’s design, as moving and firing your gun both cost steam. Each turn, everyone regains some steam, and it’s up to you how to spend it. If you end a turn with enough left over, certain guns can perform overwatch attacks on the enemy’s turn, dealing damage to aliens as they scurry out from corners that kept them safe from attack on your turn, a

I am regretfully not familiar with the comics, I pick apart scenes and talk about character thinking and motivations and things I notice in the background. Please do enlighten me!

I love discussion, please do start some in the comments below.

S01E02 - The Variant

  • episode title mainly refers to the other Loki going around killing people... in hindsight, of course the title was a gender-neutral descriptor, since that Loki is a woman. The main Loki of this particular piece is also a variant, as denoted by the big orange block letters on the back of his spiffy new jacket, it's possible the title could refer to them both and how they meet each other this episode.
  • We open to a Ren Faire in Wisconsin. You can see, before the time and place flashes on screen, if you look carefully, patrons dressed in anachronistic clothing. Pretty easy to blend in here, if you're wearing a hood, leather leggings, and carrying scads of wicked knives. The same with Oklahoma last episode. This may be intentional on the part of the Variant, since the TVA are a reactionary force to her anachronistic incursions.
  • Time door flashes up, and we see Hunter C-20 walk through with her three-person team of Minutemen, a woman and two men. I note the designation is printed on the back of the helmet as well, and that the last two numbers of the Hunter's designation are the first two numbers of her Minutemen's designation. Red-brown tie and black shirt under the armour. In light of the upcoming fight scene, I note she is shorter and smaller than the Minutemen. She also has not defaced her helmet like B-15 has with the numerous tally marks. I wonder how long she's been doing this for.
  • The TVA team totally ignore the Ren Faire lady complaining about them crashing the party with absurdly out-of-place outfits. Maybe she thinks they're rival cosplayers or something? But the TVA team are here to ensure that her timeline will be erased shortly, and don't even give her the time of day.
  • One of the Minutemen, the woman, finds traces of the

Personal review - NC 700 vs. Sony XM4 (long)

I know a lot of folks are going back and forth between the Sony WH-1000XM4 and the Bose NC 700 (I googled the hell out of it when shopping), so I thought I’d weigh in with my experience with the two. I’d been keeping my eye out for an XM4 deal as Prime day approached and snagged them, and picked up the 700s to compare since they were also on a great deal. I’ve never been a Bose fan and read all the great reviews of the XM4s so figured the comparison would be good for a laugh and I’d send the Bose back a day later. Below is based on 3 days of back & forth testing at home and in my office.

Aesthetics: Personal preference, but I think the Bose are beautiful and futuristic (I got the soapstone as it was the color on sale). I got the blue Sonys and they’re…fine. They look like headphones. Materials are subjectively better on the Bose. Bose 5/5, Sony 3/5.

Comfort: Both have positives and negatives, but Bose win slightly. The earcups fit around my ears nicely, and are made of nice material. The headband has nice padding but gives slightly more point-pressure than the Sonys, and there’s just a little too much clamping pressure that will hopefully ease up with break-in. They have infinite adjustability with the sliding-post style. The Sonys felt a bit big on me even on the smallest setting, and I have an average sized adult male head. They don’t clamp as hard, but the drivers touched my ears, which felt weird. Bose 4/5, Sony 3/5

Noise Cancellation Caveat - I only got to test this in relatively quiet environments at home and in my office so YMMV for noisy settings. They both do a good job canceling out drone like an HVAC unit, but the Bose has a more intuitive interface in the app (I still can’t figure out why sony has NC, Wind Noise Cancel, then 1-9 levels of transparency). Sony NC also has a very noticeable hum when no music is playing that I found very annoying, while Bose does not. Sometimes I want to block out drone/coworkers but not have music on. Bose 5/5, Sony 3/5 due to the hum.

Features Both have touch controls, and both are sort of mediocre. Draw. Both have a transparency mode, though the Sony’s is a little easier to use by just cupping the right earpiece - you have to press & hold a small button on Bose. The Sony have a big win by auto-pausing when you remove the headphones - huge omission for Bose. Apps for both are acceptable; Sony wins on EQ & (mostly useless) tweaks, while Bose wins for simplicity of NC interface. Bose has a dedicat

There are only two white people in the movie Black Panther

Martin Freeman, and Andy Serkis.

They also play roles in Lord of the Rings.

I guess that makes them the Tolkien white guys.

The Outpost Pt 2

The meeting with the Skipper of the Star Attraction was brief. The large frog like being was curt and to the point. Just security. Not nature guides. No cussing in front of guests. No drinking on the job. No unnecessary risks. No killing customers. What constitutes a breach of contract. He seemed overall reluctant for the unplanned trip to happen, disdainful that he was hiring predatory beings, and overall eager to get them off his ship.

Later it was explained that the only way the insurance company behind the pleasure craft would authorize the trip was with a locally contracted security crew and no one mentioned that none of team Bravo had ever been to the surface of this planet.

"Like I told the captain," Sam said to Ella, "we arent tour guides, park rangers or naturalists."

"I know." Ella responded in the tone of someone who had been through similar conversations before.

"We arent conservationists." Sam expanded, "If we think a creature is a threat, we will crator it, I dont care if it's your guests' long lost cousin Timmy."

This earned a quizzical look. The more time ella had spent around the Humans, the more fine tuned her appearance had become to resemble them. She could now approximate a face and basic facial expressions. This led Sam's mind to questions he quickly put out of his mind. Rule Number One-ish.

"Also, we are bringing our own provisions. Our own food. There is clean water down there but understand we will not be handing out food to your people. Yall are on your own for that. I'm not here to teach the Gentry how to camp or how to boil water."

"I know." Ella repeated with the exact same inflection.

That night the Fellas of Bravo team packed, ate hearty, stayed up too late drinking, and slept expecting the next day to be one of hard marching and weary interactions with strange life forms.

.....

They awoke to the sound of Tex blasting Spanish music from the shower. It seemed as though everyone had slept through initial alarm clocks and Tex was content to wake them only after he had finished with his morning routine. This was remedied by Sam throwing a metal trash can into the shower, reminiscent of how his drill Sergeant had woke him up back in the early days of basic.

Just like in those days the clang of a metal can on a metal wall are jarring and startling. Tex was definitely startled and launched himself into the alloy ceiling over the shower, again.

"THATS NOT FUNNY!" Came a shout barely audible over the howling laughter of
